CNN —Within minutes of President Joe Biden endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him on the Democratic Party’s ticket on Sunday, the internet crackled with lies, altered photos and other misleading claims about Harris. Some supporters of former President Donald Trump – the Republican nominee in the November election – even suggested Biden was the victim of a coup. Meanwhile, a slew of slickly edited pro-Harris videos quickly proliferated on social media as her backers tried to capitalize on the moment. Biden’s likeness was also exploited in the aftermath of his announcement, which came via a post on social media and not televised address. Harris’ team has also embraced a viral post from British pop singer Charli XCX that referred to Harris as “brat,” a concept that includes women and queer empowerment.

Vice President Kamala Harris is already seeing a wave of big money donor support following President Joe Biden dropping out of the race, with the help of bundlers who have assisted her in past races, according to people familiar with the matter. Lasry helped raise money for the vice president when she ran against Biden in the 2020 Democratic primary. Hoffman has donated at least $10 million to supportive Biden political action committees so far this election, according to Federal Election Commission records. The campaign filed the new name of their campaign, "Harris for President," with the FEC. That would come with the added risk of donors potentially deciding not to donate to the new campaign, Massoglia said.

David Ellison, CEO of Skydance Media attends the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton on January 07, 2024 in Beverly Hills, California. David Ellison, the son of Republican megadonor Larry Ellison, gave $929,600 to back the re-election efforts of President Joe Biden, putting him among the top recent donors to the incumbent Democrat. David Ellison's donation is the largest recorded contribution that the Skydance Media CEO ever made to a federal candidate, according to Federal Election Commission records. David Ellison's donation comes as his father, Larry Ellison, the chairman of Oracle, has kept his wallet firmly shut this election cycle. The New Venture Fund raised over $950 million in 2021, according to the group's records. The listed donation to the New Venture Fund coincided with Thiel helping Republican candidates during the 2022 midterms. Massoglia suggested another scenario: that accountants for the Thiel Foundation may have filled out the forms incorrectly. The New Venture Fund is part of a network of left-leaning nonprofits guided by philanthropic advisory firm Arabella Advisors. Just like the New Venture Fund and the Donors Trust, the Sixteen Thirty Fund does not publicly disclose its donors.

In an interview with CNBC that aired Tuesday, Elon Musk was asked about his tweeting. Musk said he'll say what he wants to say even if it leads to him, Tesla, or Twitter losing money. During an interview with CNBC's David Faber, Musk was asked about why he tweets the way he does. Faber pointed to a tweet from Monday in which Musk said Soros "wants to erode the very fabric of civilization" and "hates humanity." Faber asked why Musk continued to tweet such things and share his political opinions even though Tesla customers and Twitter advertisers may not agree with him.
To some, he is “Ron DeSoros,” a puppet of the Democratic megadonor George Soros. But he is finding that the conspiracy theories and outlandish attacks that Mr. Trump and his allies have aimed at rivals for years are coming for him as well. The attacks underscore the power that conspiracy theories continue to hold over Republican politics heading into the 2024 presidential election. To win the party’s nomination, Mr. DeSantis would probably need support from a Republican base that has produced many of the attacks against him. And while Mr. DeSantis enjoys broad support among Republicans, soaring to re-election victory just six months ago, the latest primary polls show Mr. Trump gaining a sizable lead.
DeSantis pledged Florida wouldn't be involved in an extradition to New York, given that Trump lives in Palm Beach. Ron DeSantis of Florida pledged Thursday that state officials would not help extradite former President Donald Trump from Florida to New York in a charged political attack on the prosecutor, following the first-ever indictment of a former president. The Florida extradition statute describes two ways of extraditing people from Florida to another state where they face criminal charges. The governor's only role is making sure the demand meets all the legal requirements before ordering the extradition, legal experts told Insider. He could also delegate and let another member of the Florida executive branch sign off on Hochul's extradition demand.
