Don’t Tell My Friends, But… is a seriesin which we asked Times columnistswhateveryone else is wrong about. At worst, it is hypocrisy, a clear felony compared with my misdemeanor hypocrisy. But I understand the appeal of calling out what looks like hypocrisy when we see it, especially now. To give hypocrisy a pass, one might argue, is to slide down a slope toward having no principles at all. In these merciless political times we should focus our minds on the true betrayals that really matter.

Mamadi Doumbouya for The New York Times Talk What If Instead of Trying to Manage Your Time, You Set It Free? I’m curious to know what you think we do actually owe our jobs, as far as time goes. There’s a distinction between signing up to do a job and signing up to have every second micromanaged. I remember there was a Reddit post of someone who was talking about trying to outsource everything in their life and making it superefficient. He recently interviewed Emma Chamberlain about leaving YouTube, Walter Mosley about a dumber America and Cal Newport about a new way to work.
Ex-Googler Claire Stapleton said her perspective on Google's culture has shifted dramatically over the years. Stapleton said she was once a "cheerleader" for Google, but now she sees its culture as "quite grim." In 2018, Stapleton, organized a protest, walking off the job along with about 20,000 Google workers in response to the company's handling of sexual harassment allegations. Now nearly four years later, Stapleton says she sees Google's culture as "quite grim," especially since the company laid off about 12,000 employees in February. Stapleton is one of several former Google workers to speak out against the company in recent months.
This month, the Biden administration released its long-delayed National Security Strategy. The brief moment of post-Cold War American hyperpower is long gone, a victim of both natural power dynamics and three decades of incessant American foreign policy hubris and error. Six months before the assault on Ukraine began, the Biden administration admitted the limits of American power in another land that defeated Russian invaders: Afghanistan. The saving grace of the National Security Strategy may be its meaninglessness. The Biden administration's actual emerging national security strategy could be far better than the document lets on.

They stroll in the Luxembourg Gardens, they go to a party, they gossip, and we overhear their private reflections. Like writers, ideas have their eras, as undeniable at showing their vintage as gray hair and wrinkles. D’Ardelo, who has just heard from his doctor that his medical tests are negative, nevertheless tells the others that he has cancer. Elsewhere, “On woman’s erotic body there are certain golden sites: I always thought there were three such: the thighs, the buttocks, the breasts. golden sites represents an erotic message.” But these are messages a novelist would not put in the mouth of a modern male character unless he was trying to characterize him as an irredeemable sexist.
