Here I am at an event about longevity at my local library, practicing Chado, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony for preparing matcha. Here are the eight foods I always keep in my kitchen and eat every day to live a longer and happier life. Since I was in high school, I have practiced Chado, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony for preparing green tea. For example, I'll throw kombu seaweed into miso soup with some dried mushrooms, or make a salad with seaweeds like wakame and hijiki. I use dried shiitake for overnight dashi (soup stock) with kombu seaweed, miso soup, dressings, vinegar, curry — basically everything.

The US-based Sukiya Living magazine (formerly Journal of Japanese Gardening) has awarded the Adachi Museum its highest honor – most beautiful traditional garden – for more than 20 years running. Despite accolades coming from outside of Japan, the museum and gardens remain relatively unknown compared to those in Kyoto and Tokyo. 1 thing that makes us feel happy and live longer is positive relationships with romantic partners and friends. To remedy this sometimes intimidating process, Julie Rice and Elizabeth Cutler created Peoplehood, a "workout for your relationships", to help people find community. To get a better sense of the experience, I attended a Peoplehood gather. Peoplehood gathers are led by a guide, and she prompted us to start the experience with breathwork. The first one was pretty simple; we were asked to share our name and something that felt true for us.
