Two trendy areas in finance – fintech and private credit — are coming together in a new multi-billion dollar joint venture. Affirm Holdings is getting its largest-ever capital commitment with a new partnership from private-credit firm Sixth Street, which is investing in $4 billion worth of loans over the course of three years. Sixth Street is committing capital upfront for Affirm to underwrite short-term installment loans – between 4- to 6-month timeframes. As private credit has exploded in recent years, alternative-asset managers are increasingly looking at non-bank, fintech companies to invest capital. What this means is Sixth Street intends to purchase loans originated by Affirm for consumers as they buy items online through platforms ranging from Amazon to Apple.

JetBlue Airways plans to add domestic first-class seats in 2026 on airplanes that don’t have its top-tier Mint class, the latest initiative to win over higher-paying customers and get back to profitability. All of JetBlue’s Airbus aircraft without Mint, the airline’s lie-flat seats, will have two or three rows of domestic first-class seats, Marty St. George, JetBlue’s president, said in a note to employees. “Since launching Mint over a decade ago, we’ve explored the idea of expanding a version of it across the fleet, often playfully calling it ‘mini-Mint’ or ‘junior Mint,’” St. George said. Let’s keep our competitors guessing,” St. George wrote. St. George, JetBlue’s former commercial chief, came back to the New York-based airline earlier this year to help new CEO Joanna Geraghty return JetBlue to profitability and cut costs.

U.S. airline executives are set to defend their seating fees before a Senate panel Wednesday after the subcommittee accused the industry of charging "junk" fees to bring in billions in revenue. American, Delta, United, Spirit and Frontier brought in $12.4 billion in seating fees between 2018 and 2023, according to a report released Nov. 26 by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. "Our seat selection products are all voluntary," Stephen Johnson, American's chief strategy officer, said in written testimony ahead of the hearing. "For customers who value sitting in more in-demand locations, we do offer the opportunity to pay for more desirable seats." The Biden administration and some lawmakers have promised to crack down on so-called "junk" fees and have cited the airline industry as a target for cuts.

Frontier Airlines planes are parked at gates in Denver International Airport (DEN) in Denver, Colorado, on August 5, 2023. Frontier Airlines , one of the world's biggest budget airlines, is adding first-class seats. Starting in September, Frontier plans to start ripping out the first two rows of its three-by-three economy seats to add four first-class seats, in a two-by-two configuration. "While we have the lowest costs in the industry, we don't have the best revenue model," Biffle said in an interview. Biffle said the company's biggest gaps in its revenue model came from not offering first-class seats and not having enough rewards for its loyalty program members.

Why you should think twice before giving a fitness gift

While physical activity offers mental and physical health benefits for most people, working out has become so closely associated with weight loss that an exercise gift can come across as thinly veiled body-shaming. The risks for childrenThe risks are even higher when giving fitness gifts to children and teenagers. For parents who feel a sense of responsibility to encourage an inactive child to get moving, it’s tempting to think a fitness gift could be the perfect catalyst. While gift-givers might assume they’re offering motivation to be more active, surprising someone with a fitness gift can interfere with the ability to engage in exercise, according to Schilling. Giving such a loaded gift “might actually prolong someone from engaging in health behaviors because they feel hurt by it,” Schilling said.

CNN —The US Department of Justice threw even more doubt into a new way of paying for real estate brokers this week, raising concerns about a recent wide-ranging legal settlement. The new rules included in the settlement represented the biggest upheaval to the US real estate market in a century, sowing worry among real estate professionals. The NAR settlement was originally announced in March, and the new rules took effect in mid-August. “This is an important moment for NAR members, home buyers and sellers, and the real estate industry,” said NAR President Kevin Sears in a statement about the settlement approval. Rob Crawford, the owner of Florida real estate firm Loch Realty, said he has heard of real estate brokerages weighing whether to leave the organization.
