On the right, familiar conspiracy theories about voting popularized by President-elect Donald Trump continued to circulate. NewsGuard said there was “no evidence” that Starlink was used to interfere with the presidential election in Trump’s favor. As the 2024 election results were reported, social media users on the left began to speculate about Musk’s role in vote counting. “Kamala Harris left us a breadcrumb,” one TikTok user said about the updated language on the fund’s website in a video that received over 700,000 views. CISA responded to this speculation on its website’s “Rumor vs. Reality” resource, where it has debunked election misinformation.

Election officials warn they’re outmatched and struggling to combat the wave of falsehoods coming from Musk and his platform. Manipulating early voting numbersIn 2020, Trump attacked early voting and mail-in voting, claiming they were used to cheat. Election officials have been inundated with threats of violence since the 2020 election. But Trump and his allies have been laying the groundwork to try to dispute the election should he lose. In Georgia, conservatives sought to allow county election officials to refuse to certify the election results, though the effort was blocked by a state judge.

The September jobs report came in stronger than expected, with 254,000 jobs added. AdvertisementThe latest jobs report might be just what Vice President Kamala Harris needs. The Crew Dragon capsule carrying four astronauts is on track to land off the coast of Dry Tortugas, Florida, at 3:36 a.m. Already, the Polaris Dawn mission has made history as it reached a higher altitude than any human has traveled in five decades. To safely reach home, the Crew Dragon capsule will carry out what’s called a “de-orbit burn,” orienting itself as it prepares to slice through the thickest part of Earth’s atmosphere. Polaris Dawn crew member and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis emerges from the Crew Dragon capsule's hatch on Thursday during the first commercial spacewalk. Sunday’s anticipated return will mark the conclusion of the third trip to space for the specific Crew Dragon capsule powering the Polaris Dawn mission.

CNN —Reigning champion Italy was knocked out of Euro 2024 in the last 16 after Switzerland produced a stunning upset to win 2-0 on Saturday at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Swiss supporters didn’t have to wait long after the break for a second goal – only 27 seconds to be exact. Italy’s continued sloppiness on the ball carried over into the second half, immediately giving the ball away from it’s own kickoff. While Switzerland deservedly advanced, it was an uncharacteristically out-of-sorts performance for Italy, who’s defense of its title ends in the first knockout game of the tournament. Italy’s defeat means that the reigning champion has been eliminated in the round of 16 at the last three Euros.

CNN —Mattia Zaccagni’s last-minute stunner earned Italy a 1-1 draw and sent the defending champion through to the last-16 of Euro 2024, breaking Croatia’s hearts in the process. Luka Modrić’s goal 10 minutes into the second half after he had just missed a penalty looked like it would be enough to earn the Vatreni a place in the knockout stages. Late dramaCroatia has proven to be a real bogey team for Italy over the years. The Azzurri hadn’t tasted victory over Monday’s opponent in their previous eight meetings, a run stretching back to November 1994. In her seven years as a Justice Department attorney, Cannon participated on the trial teams of just four criminal cases. Still, Cannon has asked questions in the Trump case that appear out of left field. Her orientation toward such legal rabbit holes is not distinct to the Trump case, veterans of her courtroom say. There is no loneliness epidemic

With the report, a steady trickle of headlines about the epidemic turned into a firehose: "Loneliness is at epidemic levels and it's killing Americans" (USA Today); "This Epidemic of Isolation Is as Harmful as Smoking" (Bloomberg); "America's Loneliness Epidemic Comes for the Restaurant" (The Atlantic). There's one problem: The loneliness epidemic doesn't exist. Even the authors caution in their meta-analysis that "the frequently used term 'loneliness epidemic' seems exaggerated." Calling it a "loneliness epidemic," then, may be a bit like calling COVID a "sneezing pandemic." "There are many, many surveys that are just making up questions about loneliness and are not using the UCLA Loneliness Scale or some other validated loneliness scale," she says.

CNN —A Women’s Super League (WSL) clash between Chelsea and Arsenal on Friday was delayed by half an hour after the Gunners were forced to change their socks because they were the same color as those worn by Chelsea. Arsenal, as the away team, was eventually forced to source black socks from Chelsea’s merchandise store and cover the branding with tape. Once the game began, Chelsea consolidated its spot as the league leader with a 3-1 victory over third-placed Arsenal in front of the Blues’ biggest ever crowd at Stamford Bridge for a women’s soccer game. Chelsea eventually won 3-1 to edge ahead in the Women's Super League title race. Chelsea manager Emma Hayes praised her team’s dominant performance afterwards but told broadcaster Sky Sports that she was “gutted” for Arsenal’s kit man.

His book was an intense trip through a surreal night in neon-lit Tokyo, and I was completely captivated by the liminal vibe. Over the next few days, I started researching the Amazon Kindle as a convenient remedy for reading at night. AdvertisementI went on a binge read and was easily going through one book every two to three days with the Kindle. And it's not just me — a 2014 study found that Kindle readers absorb less than on paper, and a 2019 study found that Kindle readers performed worse when measuring chronology and temporality. I ultimately came to the conclusion that the Kindle created too much detachment for me, so it had to go.

A bunch of executives at e-commerce firm Wayfair singled out remote workers as the ones who were more likely to have been laid off in a fresh round of cuts, The Wall Street Journal. The targeting of remote workers will come as little surprise for many, given the ugly battle that's been raging over remote work in recent months. Some bosses such as Elon Musk have disparaged remote workers as lazy members of the "laptop classes living in la la land," and called out the practice as "morally wrong." However, the Wayfair layoffs are a reminder that remote workers are in grave danger if their managers don't believe they're putting in the hours away from the office. Many remote workers will be feeling more vulnerable than ever.

Google searches for "tongue tie release" have been climbing since 2004, reaching an all-time high in 2023. Oftentimes, infants are evaluated for a tongue tie after a nursing parent reports pain or other feeding difficulties. Tongue tie revisions shouldn't be the first stepIf you believe your child might have a tongue tie and need a revision, Oster recommends getting multiple opinions. AdvertisementA severe tongue tie can cause challenges beyond breastfeeding, Pellman notes, including speech problems, orthodontic issues, and trouble with the tongue sweeping through the mouth to keep teeth clean. "Ultimately, the decision of whether to proceed with a tongue tie revision should be made on a case-by-case basis, in consultation with a healthcare professional who understands your child's individual needs," he said.

There are also what many investors would think of as tech companies in S & P 500 Communication Services , at an 8.6% weighting. After all, we would say Meta, Alphabet and Amazon are as much tech companies as Apple or Microsoft, with all three considered leaders in artificial intelligence. These are industrial technology companies, not the industrial companies of old. So, using some of the examples provided in the question: Yes, Microsoft and Apple are both considered Information Technology companies.

CNN —Making water more accessible to kids leads to an increase in hydration and a decrease in children being overweight, according to a new study. The study, published Monday in the journal Pediatrics, included more than 1,200 students across 18 schools in California’s Bay Area. Half of the schools were gifted water dispensers in the cafeteria and water-bottle filling stations in areas of high traffic, Patel said. “I always tell people, drink water first — as that will reduce a person’s thirst and likelihood that they will drink sugary drinks. “If we really care about kids’ health, we won’t give them health information with a side of body shame, because we know weight stigma hurts kids’ health,” Hanson said.

U.N. investigators in 2012 concluded there were reasonable grounds to believe shabbiha militias committed crimes against humanity, including murder and torture, and war crimes such as arbitrary arrest and detention, sexual violence and pillaging. PAPER TRAILSome human rights scholars who have studied the role of the shabbiha in the Syrian war say the Assad regime initially used the groups to distance itself from violence on the ground. CIJA is a nonprofit founded by a veteran war crimes investigator and staffed by international criminal lawyers who have worked in Bosnia, Rwanda and Cambodia. While there is no international war crimes court with jurisdiction over Syria's conflict, there are a number of so-called universal jurisdiction cases in countries like the Netherlands, Sweden, France and Germany which have laws allowing them to prosecute war crimes even if they are committed elsewhere. Ghany said the documents were "necessary" pieces of evidence linking the shabbiha to the state in international justice cases.

The Federal Reserve is set to announce a critical policy decision today — hike (possibly), pause (likely), or cut (probably not). The Fed has made 10 consecutive rate hikes leading up to today, making for one of its most aggressive tightening campaigns ever. Tuesday's cooler-than-expected inflation data is still double the Fed's 2% target, which suggests there could be more hawkishness ahead. Meanwhile, Wharton professor Jeremy Siegel suggested in a separate note that the Fed may actually be done with policy tightening altogether. He explained that, since he doesn't see a recession, the stock market could actually rally higher across all sectors because of investor FOMO.

Elon Musk often tweets out old memes and enjoys trolling people. And as one user pointed out its founder is "a notorious shitposter," Musk said it was "a good sign." If you've had a look at Elon Musk's tweets, you'll know that he's a big fan of posting fairly dated, and sometimes conspiratorial, memes. "Only fitting that Twitter's first acquisition in the Elon era is a company run by a notorious shitposter," Austen Allred, a tech founder, tweeted Tuesday night in reference to Laskie's founder, Chris Bakke. "I regard that as a good sign :)," Musk replied at around 1.a.m PT.
