CNN —A shiny metal likeness of England soccer captain Harry Kane has become the latest statue of a sports star to face criticism for failing to capture the essence of its subject. “A real proud moment for me to go back to where my life in football began and unveil a statue. The juxtaposition makes the differences between the real life Kane and his bronze likeness amusingly apparent, with many questioning whether Kane could truly be impressed by the work. Harry Kane next to his statue at the unveiling on Monday. As it turns out, this is not the only modern statue unveiled recently that has seemingly failed to live up to ancient standards.

That's for good reason: An Apple TV set didn't make sense years ago. But in theory, if that goes well, then maybe Apple will be more interested in chasing an Actual TV Set. Apple still sells a dedicated Apple TV box, which you can plug into any TV to transform it into an "Apple TV." AdvertisementYou can debate whether Apple TV+ is actually successful — its movie strategy seems … challenged — but it at least makes sense strategically: Apple TV+ is supposed to generate recurring monthly revenue, and Apple is all about recurring monthly revenue as part of its "services" push. A TV set — even the most awesome TV set — would be a one-and-done proposition for Apple.

Steve Jobs had apparently had mixed feelings about Apple entering the TV market before his death. Apple cofounder Steve Jobs reportedly made it clear before he died that Apple wouldn't pursue its own television set, but the company may now be revisiting the idea over a decade later. Jobs reportedly told biographer Walter Isaacson that he'd "finally cracked" how to make TVs simpler to use. In 2014, writer and former Apple beat reporter Yukari Iwatani Kane wrote in her book, "Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs," that Jobs told top Apple employees in 2010 that the company wouldn't be making a TV set. Apple's services business, which includes Apple TV+ subscriptions, has boomed in recent quarters.

Barnes & Noble is making a comeback

In a move that’s perhaps more symbolic than business-minded, Barnes & Noble, America’s largest retail bookseller, has reclaimed the flagship store it vacated in 2013. But Barnes & Noble would revamp its business model. “The problem with Barnes & Noble when I took it over was that the bookstores themselves weren’t very good,” Daunt told CNN. Foot traffic data for Barnes & Noble show that visits are up by 7% since 2019, according to location analytics company Placer.ai. Shannon DeVito, head of books at Barnes & Noble, says that beyond reigniting a love for reading, the BookTok trend has guided stores on what to stock.

About 50% of Americans believe the result of the 2024 presidential election will directly affect their personal finances, according to a survey by financial services company Empower. And about 99% of voters in a Gallup survey said the economy was at least somewhat important in influencing their vote for the next president. "Voters absolutely are using the economy as a metric by which to evaluate presidents," said John Kane, a clinical associate professor of politics at New York University. But according to experts, the president's power over the economy might be exaggerated. Watch the video above to discover how much influence the U.S. president has over the economy.

The United States is preparing for civil unrest surrounding the election. Election Day itself isn't as high of a risk as the postelection period, analysts say. AdvertisementThe turmoil that took place after the last US presidential election has left its mark. In the final stretch before Election Day, it seems like everyone — from voter advocacy groups and election officials to risk management and security companies — is preparing for civil unrest. The company said the peaceful 2022 midterm elections showed that the threat of civil violence remained comparatively low.

DNA testing has revealed that a skull found decades ago in the wall of an Illinois house belonged to an 18-year-old woman who died just after the American Civil War. How did the skull end up in a wall in Illinois when Granger's body was buried in Indiana? "Grave robbing was quite common in that era as it was quite profitable. While the practice was illegal, the law forbidding grave robbing was not always enforced, Russell said. It was hugely controversial as a result, with riots and even murders of alleged perpetrators following some suspected grave robbing incidents.

Esther Granger was identified by the Kane County Coroner’s Office on Thursday as the woman whose skull was found in 1978, but she died more than 150 years earlier. The skull was turned back into the police and officials linked this skull to the 1978 report, which renewed the investigation. In 2023, Kane County officials contacted Othram, a Texas company that works on solving cold cases across the country, to assist with further DNA testing. Officials contacted Granger’s great-great grandson, Wayne Svilar, and he submitted his DNA for testing, which was a match, he said during Thursday’s news conference. Svilar, 69, said he did not believe the news when he was first contacted by county officials in April about his great-great grandmother.

(CNN) — What would you do if your best friend (or sister, aunt, daughter) told you she had breast cancer? One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Every breast cancer story is personalWhile the individual tales of each person with breast cancer share some of the same contours, the details and the story arcs can be vastly different. There are different types of breast cancer, and people are diagnosed at different stages (both Sidner and Lewis were stage III). “I don’t know of breast cancer in my family,” Sidner told Elam during their conversation.

CNN —America’s largest drug store chain named a new chief executive officer on Friday, with longtime CVS Health executive David Joyner replacing Karen Lynch. In August, rising costs at CVS’ insurance arm Aetna cut into profits, leading to the ousting of then-president Brian Kane. Charles Krupa/AP/FileLower reimbursement rates for prescription drugs have hit retail pharmacies, including Walgreens and Rite-Aid, resulting in flagging profits and forcing drug stores to shutter locations and cut jobs. Meanwhile, rival chain Walgreens is closing 1,200 stores as it faces competition from online pharmacies and larger retailers — another challenge facing drug stores. Our results need to show that more consistently,” a CVS Health spokesperson told CNN in a statement.

Editor’s note: The podcast Chasing Life With Dr. Sanjay Gupta explores the medical science behind some of life’s mysteries big and small. But life doesn’t always have to be that way, said Dr. Becky Kennedy, a clinical psychologist who specializes in parenting and rose to prominence during the pandemic. “Kids don’t need selfless martyrs, kids need sturdy leaders,” Kennedy said in an email. This parenting gig is hard and too often, we forget to notice and honor all we are managing,” Kennedy said. “There’s no such thing as a perfect parent,” Kennedy said, noting that her kids don’t have Dr. Becky as their mom.
