Watch “Apocalypse Now” (1979), “Full Metal Jacket” (1987) or “Platoon” (1986) and you should know what war really means. “Ungentlemanly Warfare” features a disreputable band of riff raff brought together for a super-secret mission. "Superfakes" are gaining popularity as high-quality designer knockoffs. Designer brands have been combatting knockoffs for decades, but a rising category of "superfakes" can trick the most experienced experts. Here's how superfakes became so difficult to tell apart from the real thing. However, any product that intentionally replicates a brand's product, using its logo, name, or intellectual property is considered a knockoff. Both designer brands and third-party marketplaces have invested millions in combating counterfeits, but the issue is so widespread that it's impossible to stop them all.

A story with the headline “Michael Jordan Turns Down $120 Million Ad Campaign With Disney: ‘I like My Reputation’” emerged from a satirical website, but has misled several users online into thinking it is authentic. Reuters did not find any credible news reports that former basketball star Michael Jordan has turned down a deal with Disney, however. Reuters has previously addressed similar claims based on satirical articles from America’s Last Line of Defense and its subsidiaries (here), (here). Further indicating the inauthenticity of the story, the article lists “Joe Barron” as Jordan’s spokesperson and “lifelong friend,” but a search for “’Joe Barron’ AND ‘Michael Jordan’” does not yield any reports that support this. Article claiming Michael Jordan turned down a $120 Million ad campaign with Disney stems from a satirical website.
For early-stage founders looking to grow their startups in an accelerator, few names spark as much excitement as Y Combinator. Several of Silicon Valley's marquee companies are Y Combinator graduates, including Airbnb, Stripe, and Dropbox. While the number of startups that were part of last year's summer cohort were down 40% from the previous batch, this winter batch had 17.5% more startups accepted, said a Y Combinator spokesperson. Now, Y Combinator is looking ahead to its next batch, accepting applications for the summer 2023 cohort, which are due by April 7th. Stephanie Simon, the head of Y Combinator's admissions team, wants founders to know she's still sifting through all those applications.

A respected British art dealer sold seven "antique" artifacts to a Qatari sheikh in 2014 and 2015. The art dealer, John Eskenazi, has been ordered to repay the Qatari buyer $4.99 million and damages. But a High Court ruling last month found that the artifacts sold by John Eskenazi Limited (JEL) to the super-rich Qatari sheikh between 2014 and 2015 were forgeries. The judge ordered Eskenazi to refund what the sheikh had paid for the fake artworks, plus damages, on November 29. A spokesperson for Eskenazi told the newspaper: "John Eskenazi and his family have suffered years of anguish and anxiety as a result of this litigation.
