He noted that in many of the videos being called out by Torres, Piker was criticizing the Israeli government, not Jewish people. Still, the letter marks one of the more high-profile callouts of the popular streaming platform over content regulations related to the Israel-Hamas war. The criticism of Piker came the same month Twitch was accused of disabling sign-ups for the platform from some users in Israel and the Palestinian territories. “It’s actually one of the most stringently applied TOS systems on any platform,” Piker said. The views shared by streamers on Twitch are not the views of Twitch nor are they my personal views."

UNRWA provides far more than humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip. Many Palestinians see darker motives, viewing the UNRWA ban as Israel's latest attempt to make their lives unlivable, first imprisoning and bombing them, now taking away their main aid lifeline. Palestinians wait to receive medicines at the UNRWA health center in Khan Younis last month. Despite its endorsements, the United States is yet to resume funding to UNRWA after Israel's Oct. 7 allegations. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has said it will use other agencies, such as the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization, to distribute aid.

Here I am at an event about longevity at my local library, practicing Chado, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony for preparing matcha. Here are the eight foods I always keep in my kitchen and eat every day to live a longer and happier life. Since I was in high school, I have practiced Chado, the traditional Japanese tea ceremony for preparing green tea. For example, I'll throw kombu seaweed into miso soup with some dried mushrooms, or make a salad with seaweeds like wakame and hijiki. I use dried shiitake for overnight dashi (soup stock) with kombu seaweed, miso soup, dressings, vinegar, curry — basically everything.

Read previewThe Atlantic diet, based on traditional eating habits in regions of Spain and Portugal, could help you switch up your snacking habits for a longer, healthier life, according to a dietitian. AdvertisementFollowing a flexible eating plan like the Atlantic diet can help you make healthier long-term choices, such as swapping out processed snack foods for nutritious but delicious alternatives. Adding more beans to your diet can also help you follow the more flexitarian eating style of the Atlantic diet and its Mediterranean cousin by eating meat in moderation. You don't have to opt for tuna if you prefer salmon or even sardines since all kinds of seafood are encouraged on the Atlantic diet. While the Atlantic diet does emphasize whole foods, the focus is adding more healthy foods to your diet, instead of trying to cut back or deprive yourself.

CNN —Vegetables are great not only for their versatility — they can be eaten raw or cooked, whole or chopped — but also for their health benefits. Eating three servings of baby carrots a week can give a significant boost of important nutrients found in the orange root vegetables, according to a new unpublished study presented June 30 in Chicago at Nutrition 2024, the annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition. After four weeks, the researchers found those who ate the carrots had a 10.8% increase in carotenoids in their skin, natural antioxidants found to have health benefits, such as preventing inflammation and promoting heart health, according to the Cleveland Clinic. But those who consumed the carrots and the supplement saw the most benefits and increased their skin carotenoids by 21.6%. Eating vegetables can protect against heart disease, some cancers, diabetes and obesity, according to the CDC.

There will be no French fries for the 15,000 athletes at the Olympic Games that open in France in July. Yes, you read that right. In what is being called the biggest restaurant in the world — a 700-foot-long former electrical power plant at the heart of the Olympic Village — there will be no foie gras, either, but vegetarian hot dogs and quinoa muesli will abound. Simple snacks from the Mediterranean diet can help you cut back on processed food like potato chips, according to a dietician. The Mediterranean diet is all about focusing on moderation and nutrient-dense food instead of restriction, said registered dietitian and food writer Sheela Prakash, author of "Mediterranean Every Day: Simple, Inspired Recipes for Feel-Good Food." Snacking doesn't have to be off-limits on the Mediterranean diet, but reaching for whole foods with a healthy dose of protein and fiber can be a more energizing option than processed foods. AdvertisementPrakash shared the go-to Mediterranean diet snacks that provide all-day energy and are delicious enough to distract her husband from junk food cravings. While it takes a bit more effort up front, prepping healthy snacks at home can make it easier to stick to a healthy diet long-term than more extreme measures like cutting out snacks completely, according to Prakash.

Ultra-processed foods have been linked to a range of health problems. Nutritionist Rob Hobson eats as few UPFs as possible by cooking from scratch. Although there isn't a set definition of UPFs, Hobson avoids foods that are manufactured using five or more ingredients, many of which you wouldn't find in a regular kitchen. AdvertisementThere are plenty of nutrient-dense UPFs, such as store-bought hummus, that you don't need to cut out simply because they're ultra-processed. "Not that that's necessarily bad, but if you're trying to reduce your intake of ultra-processed foods, then trying to get stuff as natural as possible is the key," he said.
