A loyal dog that refused to leave his dead owner's side helped solve the case of her murder by allowing detectives to identify her body, prosecutors said. Mandy Rose Reynolds, 26, was shot before her body was “burned beyond recognition” in a field fire in Robinson, Texas. Prosecutors Ryan Calvert and Alyssa Killin and Investigator Keith Kunz along with Mandy Reynolds' dog, Titan. A search of Reynolds' car in Wichita led police to find a .380 handgun in the driver’s seat floorboard. Video also showed him leaving the store in Reynolds’ car and Titan sticking his head out the car window.

CNN —The U.S. government’s highway safety agency is investigating complaints that engines can fail on as many as 1.4 million Honda and Acura vehicles. The agency says in documents posted on its website Monday that connecting rod bearings on vehicles with 3.5-liter V6 engines can fail, leading to complete engine failure. Honda recalled about 250,000 vehicles in November of 2023 to fix the same problem. The agency said it’s opening a recall query to determine the severity of the problem in vehicles not included in the 2023 recall. In documents explaining the 2023 recall, the automaker said had 1,450 warranty claims due to the bearing problem but no reports of injuries.

Nissan Motor said it would slash 9,000 jobs and cut global production capacity by a fifth, while revising its annual profit outlook sharply lower as it battles headwinds in China and the United States. Japan's third-largest automaker cut its annual operating profit forecast by 70% to 150 billion yen ($975 million), marking its second downward revision after a 17% cut earlier this year. MESA, Ariz. — A small jet crashed into a vehicle Tuesday after taking off from a suburban Phoenix airport, killing five people, police said. The plane crashed while taking off from Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, police there said in a statement. The Honda HA-420 light business jet struck the vehicle outside airport property at 4:40 p.m., according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Television news video showed what appeared to be a large fire on a road near the airport. The FAA, the National Transportation Safety Board and Mesa authorities will investigate.

European-traded shares of BMW and Mercedes-Benz were off around 6.5%, while Porsche was down by 4.9% and Volkswagen declined 4.3%. Trump has repeatedly said he will increase tariffs on many products, including new cars and trucks from China, Europe and Mexico, where many automakers, including Europeans, have established manufacturing hubs. U.S.-traded shares of Japanese automakers Toyota Motor and Honda Motor also were down during intraday trading by roughly 1% and 9%, respectively. However, they still heavily rely on imports from other countries, including Mexico, to meet U.S. consumer demand.

CNN —Five people were killed when a small plane crashed through a fence and hit a car while aborting takeoff at an Arizona airport Tuesday afternoon, officials said. “Preliminary information indicates that the plane impacted the airport perimeter fence and a passenger vehicle during an aborted takeoff,” the NTSB said in an emailed statement to CNN Wednesday morning. Five people were killed in the crash, according to Marrisa Ramirez-Ramos, a spokesperson for the Mesa Fire and Medical Department, who declined to comment further on the deaths. “Five people were on board the plane,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement to CNN. The plane crashed through a metal fence and “a few concrete walls,” a witness, Joshua Golabi, told CNN affiliate KPNX.
