Hurricane Milton makes its way toward Florida. Hurricane Milton plows toward FloridaFlorida is, once again, bracing for a direct hit as Hurricane Milton approaches the state and the window to evacuate closes. A storm surge of up to 15 feet is forecast along a stretch of the coast that includes Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. Florida is especially vulnerable to storm surge because “it doesn’t take much to push water over land that would be dry,” said Cody Fritz, the Storm Surge Unit Team Lead at the National Hurricane Center. “Where?”Follow our live blog for the latest forecasts and information about Hurricane Milton.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — In a storyline better befitting a melodrama than a popularity vote, Grazer won her second Fat Bear Contest Tuesday by defeating the male behemoth that killed her cub this summer. This is where Grazer’s cub died after it slipped over the waterfall and was killed by Chunk, perhaps the most dominant brown bear on the river. Bear 402, a female bear that was supposed to be a contestant in this year’s contest, was killed by a male brown bear the day the brackets were expected to be released. Her other surviving cub from her third litter placed second two weeks ago in the Fat Bear Junior contest. “His physical success is evident in his bulky form.”Adult male brown bears typically weigh 600 to 900 pounds in mid-summer.

CNN —In an exciting and personal rematch from last year, 128 Grazer and 32 Chunk faced off again in the final round of 2024’s Fat Bear Week contest. And this year, embattled mama bear 128 Grazer has retained the crown of the most popular fat bear in the annual online competition, which is observing its 10th anniversary this year. The rushing water in the Brooks River swept her cubs toward Chunk, currently the most dominant male bear on the river. The surviving cub, called 128’s Spring Cub, was a contender in the 2024 Fat Bear Junior contest held in late September. “For bears, fat equals survival.

Voting in Katmai National Park's famed Fat Bear Week was underway Wednesday after a bear killed one of this year's competitors and delayed the bracket reveal by a day. Voting takes place over the course of seven days, culminating in Fat Bear Tuesday, when one bear is crowned the fattest of the season. The winner will then try to beat Bear #128, also known as Grazer, a mother bear who holds last year's Fat Bear title. The injured cub later died and the surviving cub competed in Fat Bear Junior 2024, according to the park service. In another round one face-off, Bear #903, a smaller male and another Fat Bear Week newbie, will meet Bear #909, the mother of the junior contest's winner.

CNN —The bracket for 2024’s Fat Bear Week contest was revealed Tuesday night, but only after a deadly bear-on-bear attack at Alaska’s Katmai National Park and Preserve on Monday delayed the unveiling. In what’s become a bona fide fall ritual, public voting in the annual Fat Bear contest is scheduled to start at noon ET Wednesday. A preliminary contest for Fat Bear Junior has already been held, with Bear 909 Jr. taking the top spot. Standing on the grand staircase of Lynda and Stewart Resnick's opulent Beverly Hills mansion at a party last fall — where Diane Keaton, Bob Iger and Brian Grazer were among the luminaries making small talk over crudités and Sazerac cocktails — the author Walter Isaacson took a moment to thank his hosts. Not only were the Resnicks giving the party to celebrate his new biography of Elon Musk, they had also been major supporters of his former professional home, the Aspen Institute, donating $36 million to the think tank over the years. Isaacson was not the only one in the room with reason to be grateful to them. Overall, the Resnicks — whose Wonderful Company business empire includes Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice, Wonderful Pistachios, Fiji Water, Halos mandarins and Teleflora, the flower-delivery service — have donated $1.9 billion of their estimated $13 billion fortune to academic institutions, climate change initiatives, cultural organizations and programs in California’s Central Valley. Their gifts have landed them on the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual list of the 50 biggest donors three times.

Nike's success could encourage more brands to follow its leadNike has long been a big player in brand-funded films. Many brands dream of getting their films on Netflix, where even relatively small viewership numbers are bigger than they'd get on a rival streamer. Brands often work alongside traditional Hollywood players, which lends credibility to film projects. But the more films like "In the Clutch" get wide distribution, the more other brands could be encouraged to pursue similar storytelling.

They're pouring more money into Hollywood-style entertainment but want streamers to share more data. An industry effort is underway to standardize measurement of brand films. Brands are joining the chorus of content producers and creators demanding more audience data from Hollywood entertainment giants. Without transparency from the streamers, brands and their agencies rely on other measurements, some quantitative, some qualitative — typically a mix of things like critical reviews, social chatter, earned media, and sentiment. Most streamers don't show viewership data, so "you never really know how many people saw it," said Marc Gilbar, who leads Imagine's brands division.

P&G Studios head Kimberly Doebereiner argues that great entertainment can come from brands. Procter & Gamble is at the forefront of the growing brand film space — with its own in-house shingle, P&G Studios, actively pursuing entertainment projects that look nothing like ads. "The first thing I'd love is for the distributors to see that great content can come from anybody, and even if it's from a brand, that doesn't mean it's brand content," she told Insider in an interview. "We have great marketing, we have great brands, we can help bring in viewers, right? "We'd love to have our content be able to show up in the retailer with our brands and create better awareness for that content," Doebereiner said.

I was more comfortable failing at that point in my life than working a job that I thought wasn't realizing my potential. What worked for me was making a list of other people who've been really successful networkers after first studying them by reading articles or listening to podcasts. Back when I was in college, I wish I knew that college is more about networking than learning. With this strategy in mind, if you think you're going to start a business, then college isn't needed, in my opinion.
