Nearly every major automaker operating in the U.S. has factories in Mexico, however GM and Stellantis produce highly profitable full-size pickup trucks there. Shares of Toyota Motor, Honda Motor and others with production in Mexico also were down at least 1%. Trump announced he intends to levy a 25% tariff on all U.S. imports from Canada and Mexico using an executive order when he is inaugurated on Jan. 20.

A protracted transition to electric vehicles is taking its toll on global car companies, many of which still have yet to profit from battery-powered vehicles. This presents a problem for car companies that need mass adoption to deliver profits for these expensive vehicles. Here are all car companies with job cuts planned or already underway in 2024.
