Investors looking to get in on crypto's monster run may want to be tactical in their approaches. Prices dipped below the $88,000 level just before Thursday's stock market close, as the postelection rally showed signs of fading. State Street Global Advisors' Matt Bartolini advises investors to consider how the political environment may influence prices moving forward. "You need to understand how the cryptocurrency market is progressing, particularly around new administration policies," the firm's head of SPDR Americas research told CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Monday. Bartolini expects pro-crypto policies under the Trump administration to give an additional boost to the asset class.

Fans of late One Direction member Liam Payne have launched a petition asking U.K. lawmakers to enact legislation that would “safeguard” artists’ mental health as they navigate the entertainment industry. The Change.org petition proposes new legislation — which they titled “Liam’s Law” — that would require artists to have access to mental health professionals, be given regular mental health checks and have adequate rest periods. Some management companies and agencies have begun to build out divisions to address their artists’ health, but not everyone, such as independent artists, has access to those resources. Still, Gleason said that there has been a “real-time” shift in the culture that has encouraged artists to prioritize their health. Day Kv said plans to bring the petition to her local members of Parliament (MPs) once it reaches 100,000 signatures.

The UAE's AI minister believes we'll have "centers and nodes of excellence across the world." Last year, the country's wealthiest emirate, Abu Dhabi, launched Falcon — its first open-source large language model. Abu Dhabi's ruling family also controls several of the world's largest sovereign wealth funds, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Mubadala Investment Company, a founding partner of MGX. In 2010, New York University launched a branch in Abu Dhabi that has since developed a focus on AI. It could be time to rethink popular portfolio strategies for a lower interest rate environment. The Federal Reserve's half-percent rate cut on Wednesday marked the first time in more than four years it moved to lower the benchmark interest rate. According to VanEck CEO Jan van Eck, investors should start thinking about how the changing macro environment will affect their investments in the year ahead. "We're going to be in an easing cycle, so small-cap companies are going to be benefited by lower interest rates," the firm's chief ETF strategist said. With rates finally beginning to fall, van Eck points to the federal deficit as the next potential challenge for markets.

Even with recent rotation away from megacap tech stocks, there may still be a case for investing in thematic tech exchange-traded funds. Roundhill Investments runs the Roundhill Generative AI & Technology ETF (CHAT), which is up 13.8% year to date as of Friday's market close. But despite recent volatility in the group, the firm's CEO Dave Mazza thinks the investment thesis is still intact. Pointing to some of CHAT's under-the-radar artificial intelligence plays, Mazza waived off concerns that thematic ETFs may be too narrow in scope. "There are companies like Dell in the portfolio and others, ServiceNow and Salesforce , who are using AI and integrating AI," he said.

The psychotherapist's 2020 book, "Polysecure," has become the poly bible for an increasingly queer and fluid generation. As consensual nonmonogamy went mainstream, searches for Fern's "Polysecure" spiked. "I've heard authors joke they get a cup of coffee from their book," Fern said. When Jessica Fern and Dave Cooley opened up their relationship, Cooley was surprised at the "searing anguish" he felt about his wife seeing other men. Fern, Cooley, and Fern's partner bought the property together and settled in, planning to live there long term.

China's slow post-Covid recovery could be a lasting headwind for its stock market. With the mainland's two largest indexes — the Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Composite — each negative so far in 2024, KraneShares Chief Investment Officer Brendan Ahern thinks government stimulus is necessary to kick-start the country's stock market performance. Ahern, whose firm runs the KraneShares CSI China Internet ETF (KWEB) , added that Chinese households are still reluctant to spend at pre-pandemic levels. This week's post-earnings plunge in PDD Holdings is emblematic of China's consumer pullback, according to Ahern. Ahern returned to the idea that a top-down economic recovery might be necessary to stimulate China's tech sector in particular.

Investors may want to start preparing now to earn lower yields on their cash. With the Federal Reserve signaling it could cut interest rates in September, Pimco's Jerome Schneider sees a major disadvantage in holding on to cash as money market yields come down. "You're finding yourself moving from a 5% risk-free rate to a 3.5% risk-free rate pretty quickly on that cash," the firm's head of short-term portfolio management told CNBC's "ETF Edge" last week. The 100 largest money market funds are still offering a competitive return on cash at 5.12%, as of Sunday, per Crane Data. "Move to those ultra-short ETF strategies, low-duration ETF strategies, even the bond and core ETF strategies that have actively managed components," he said.

Economic commentator Kyla Scanlon is noticing a potentially worrying trend in the investing outlook among younger generations. "But then you have the other side, which is an element to financial nihilism, where people don't want to save for retirement. They don't want to save money in general because they don't believe the future is there." Scanlon is aiming to bridge Gen Z's divided financial attitudes with her new book, "In This Economy? "The younger generation definitely wants [homeownership], because there's a lot of financial benefit to having equity," she said.

Roundhill Investments' GLP-1 & Weight Loss ETF (OZEM), which began trading last week, pairs leaders Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk with players developing new treatments for weight loss and diabetes. Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk each hold a roughly 20% weighting in the ETF, per Roundhill's website as of Friday. Mazza waived concerns that investors have missed out on the rally, noting the weight loss drug industry is still in its "early days." Tesla shares are still vulnerable to a big decline ahead, according to investor Danny Moses of "The Big Short" fame . Even with the electric-vehicle maker's stock down 32% so far this year, Moses is sticking with his Tesla short. "Everything is kind of falling apart in their core business," the Moses Ventures founder told CNBC's " Fast Money " on Thursday. Moses, who is known for successfully betting against the housing market before its 2008 implosion, had the $50 short on Tesla last November, too. There may be a case to bet on technology stocks, even if interest rates remain higher for longer. While conventional wisdom suggests high rates should punish the group, investors still favor the earnings growth offered by megacap tech stocks, according to The ETF Store President Nate Geraci. "Investors are viewing megacap tech as a quality play," he told CNBC's "ETF Edge" on Monday. Even if a U.S. economic slowdown takes hold, Geraci thinks quality tech names can remain in a leadership role. Investing in semiconductors may be the most efficient way to play the artificial intelligence boom, according to VanEck's CEO. "Semiconductors have become the heart of the AI trade," Jan van Eck told CNBC's "ETF Edge" this week. His firm's VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) , which tracks 25 of the biggest chipmakers in the country, is up 21% this year as of Wednesday's close. However, SMH has fallen nearly 6% this month, led to the downside by Intel , AMD and On Semiconductor . Goldman Sachs sees opportunities in small-cap stocks — even as the Russell 2000 finishes its worst week since early January. "I do think that you have to be very selective in small caps because things can go down with great velocity," he told CNBC's " Fast Money " on Thursday. "Within the Russell 2000, you have a lot of stuff that you probably don't want to own," he said. Even with the losing week, the Russell 2000 is up almost 2% for the year, as of Friday's market close. "Your biggest mistake could be rushing back into equities before you're considering all these opportunities in fixed income," BondBloxx co-founder and COO Joanna Gallegos told CNBC's "ETF Edge" this week. To manage interest rate volatility effectively, Gallegos suggests investors look to exchange-traded funds focused on intermediate term bonds. Morgan Stanley Investment Management's Tony Rochte recommends a similar medium-term strategy with vehicles like the Eaton Vance Total Return Bond ETF (EVTR) under his firm's management. Rochte also pointed to municipal bond funds, like the Eaton Vance Short Duration Municipal Income ETF (EVSM), for income-generating opportunities. "We also converted a municipal bond mutual fund last Monday here at the NYSE to an ETF, symbol EVSM, and that's a municipal.

There may be a stronger case to invest in single stocks over exchange-traded funds in the weight loss space. With just two players currently at the forefront of the U.S. obesity drug market, ProShares' Simeon Hyman questions the relevance of weight loss ETFs for investors looking to buy into the industry. "If the benefits are going to incumbents, then maybe there isn't a theme per se that needs to be exploited." Strategas' Sohn also suggested that ETFs based on themes, rather than sectors or indices, might be falling out of favor with investors.
