In this gilded echo chamber, Mr. Trump enjoys unwavering devotion — and collects the staggering price of admission. During the 2014-15 season — the last before Mr. Trump officially entered politics — The Times counted 52 fund-raiser events at Mar-a-Lago. More than two dozen midterm candidates had already held fund-raisers on the property when Mr. Trump made that statement. But that changed when Letitia James, the New York attorney general, sued Mr. Trump for exaggerating the value of his properties. And, unlike when Mr. Trump was president, “he was there a lot,” Mr. Rustmann said.

And they were everywhere, although, naturally, New York City was a magnet, as it has always been for L.G.B.T.Q.+ people looking for a place in which they can be themselves. New York City was where you lost your soul, and we wanted to be closer to the earth. I wore an eight-and-a-half-foot-tall Statue of Liberty costume to the Easter Parade in New York City, and Kirsten came along with me. By the time I turned 30, I’d been telling people I was older for years, because I’m not the type to bemoan the loss of my youth. Going to New York felt like this moment of emerging to a wider audience, and then I started to travel a lot.

How Much Money Did This Year’s Met Gala Raise?
  + stars: | 2024-05-07 | by ( Callie Holtermann | )   time to read: +1 min
At the Met Gala on Monday, a throng of photographers fought to capture Zendaya and Kim Kardashian parading couture gowns down the red (technically, mouthwash-green) carpet. This year’s event raised about $26 million for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, according to a spokeswoman. That’s a $4 million increase over last year’s total, and more than double what the event raised a decade ago, in 2014. The most recent fall gala for the New York City Ballet raised just short of $4 million, and the American Museum of Natural History’s gala brought in $2.5 million. Even The Met’s other events do not compare: Its Art & Artists Gala raised $4.4 million last year.

Etiquette coach Jamila Musayeva said it's best to go "unnoticed" for your manners in such places. The key, according to Jamila Musayeva, an etiquette coach, is to avoid standing out as new money or someone's plus-one when attending fancy dinners or galas. Here are Musayeva's etiquette do's and don'ts at exclusive events frequented by the wealthy. Related storiesAmericans typically use their knives and forks in a "zig-zag" way, said Musayeva, but that's seen as informal. “It will probably get dirty — maybe it wasn’t the best choice,” Ms. Love said at the time. Last year’s champagne carpet — the first time in more than six decades that the academy’s arrival rug was not red — was part of a trend of colorful carpets that have swept premieres, galas and award ceremonies across the country in recent years. See the Emmys (gray) and the world premiere of “Barbie” in Los Angeles in July (pink, obviously). Red carpets have been a staple at premieres and galas since 1922, when the showman Sid Grauman rolled one out for the 1922 premiere of “Robin Hood,” which starred Douglas Fairbanks, at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The Oscars adopted it beginning with the 1961 ceremony, and, ever since, the special shade — known as Academy Red — has been instantly recognizable in photos.

He has had a fashion business in New York since the late 1980s, the same decade that Michael Kors and Donna Karan started their namesake lines. From 1999 to 2018, he showed two collections each year, some on the schedule at New York Fashion Week. But Michael Brown, 66, and his brand, B Michael, are not household names. For most of his career, B Michael has focused on made-to-order pieces — some everyday items, and others for red carpets, galas or photo shoots. He describes his aesthetic as “modern day Audrey Hepburn.” Beyoncé, Halle Berry, Whitney Houston, Diahann Carroll, Lena Horne and the jazz singer Nancy Wilson have all worn B Michael clothes.

Ukraine is finding Russian soldiers' bodies turned into booby traps, a Ukrainian soldier told the BBC. Russia is also stacking mines on top of each other and using tripwires, the BBC reported. Ukraine said last year that Russia had also left explosives in car trunks, in washing machines, and under dead bodies. Russia has laid so many mines, he said, that even if the war stopped tomorrow it would take hundreds of years to get rid of the mines Russia has already laid. Jayne Withers teaches classes about dining etiquette to both children and adults in Florida. I always enjoyed teaching, which is probably why I started my etiquette business after decades of working in publishing and wellness. From 2016 to this year, my husband and I ran a restaurant called Sealantro British Cafe, and I used some of the contacts from its mailing list to grow my etiquette business. That's a very common theme, and that's how I started teaching adults. I now teach courses on modern formal dining for adults and college students, dining out for children, business dining, international business etiquette, afternoon-tea etiquette, and etiquette for teenagers.

The brigade told Insider the driver had to position the tank, jam the accelerator, and jump out. The UK Ministry of Defence previously said that Ukraine had destroyed many Russian tank bombs before they got close enough to do any significant damage. The tank used was a T-62 captured from Russian forces when Ukraine took back the city of Kherson last year. Galas said Ukraine took dozens of similar tanks in that operation, where he said Russian forces "were running away and they were leaving behind their tanks." But as its condition worsened, the decision was made to pack it with explosives and send it back toward Russian forces.

After his fourth indictment, bringing his total count of felony charges to 91, former President Donald J. Trump last week posted a video online accusing President Biden and his family of being criminals. “The Biden crime family,” he claimed, had received millions of dollars from foreign countries. “I believe we have a compromised president,” Mr. Trump said, adding: “He’s a Manchurian candidate. That’s why Crooked Joe is letting other countries walk all over the United States.”For Mr. Trump, outrage is a selective commodity when it comes to presidential families taking millions of dollars from foreign countries. Unlike other modern presidents, Mr. Trump never gave up control of his sprawling business with its interests in multiple countries, nor did he forswear foreign business even as president.
