The University of Mobile is mourning the sudden death of freshman basketball player Kaiden Francis this week. Francis, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, collapsed on campus Tuesday morning and died, university President Charles Smith said in a letter to students and faculty. A homeless Florida man was arrested Wednesday and charged with plotting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange to force a "reboot" or "reset" of the U.S. government, according to a criminal complaint. The Federal Public Defender of South Florida did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A customary walk-through of the home turned up evidence of firearms, including spent shell casings and a homemade target, Anton said. The alleged list of targets includes Rep. Sports business experts said the strict salary cap has helped the league's financial health since the full season stoppage. The hard salary cap is a stark difference from Major League Baseball and the National Basketball Association, which have no salary cap and a soft salary cap, respectively. But the hard cap means NHL teams have to be especially diligent. CNN —Record-breaking ocean temperatures, fueled by planet-warming pollution, have turbocharged dozens of Atlantic hurricanes over the last few years, making them more potent and dangerous by increasing their wind speeds. Every hurricane in the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season was made stronger than it otherwise would have been without human-caused climate change, according to analysis from nonprofit climate research group Climate Central. Wind speeds of the 11 hurricanes were increased by 9 to 28 mph by water that was up to 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer because of climate change. Nine of this season’s 11 hurricanes rapidly intensified and climbed up the hurricane category scale due to climate change-driven ocean heat. Climate Central researchers also found that human-caused climate change made exceptionally warm ocean temperatures that fueled Milton’s explosion 400 to 800 times more likely.

The Judiciary panel's request says that "the grave public allegations against Mr. Gaetz speak directly to his fitness to serve as the chief law enforcement officer for the federal government." The committee's Democratic majority, in a letter to FBI Director Chris Wray, noted that Gaetz's associate Joel Greenberg pleaded guilty in 2021 "to the sex trafficking charge for which Mr. Gaetz was also investigated."
