(AP) — A record high tide in Maine washed away three historic fishing shacks that had stood since the 1800s and formed the backdrop of countless photographs. “It's truly a sad day for the community and the residents of South Portland,” Erskine said in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday. A record 14.57-foot (4.4-meter) high tide was measured in Portland, Maine, just after noon on Saturday, after a storm surge amplified what was already the month's highest tide, said National Weather Service meteorologist Michael Cempa. Cempa said the tide gauge measures the difference between the high tide and the average low tide. “Very sadly, all three fishing shacks at Willard Beach have been completely destroyed,” the city wrote on its Facebook page.

For spring 2024, Costa Rica’s on the cards, with this beachfront hotel at surfer central Santa Teresa, on the Pacific Coast. Existing ones have been refurbished, and new pool villas, suites and bungalows have been added to the mix. Pool villas are cute cabins with patio doors opening on the open-to-the-elements plunge pools, while the bungalows will be wood-clad, tropical spaces.

Three weeks after OpenAI's board briefly pushed out CEO Sam Altman without providing a specific reason for its decision, former director Reid Hoffman says he's still puzzled by what took place and why. He stepped down from OpenAI's board in March and said he hasn't spoken with any of the board members, though he said he did communicate with Altman. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella offered to hire Altman, OpenAI president Greg Brockman and their colleagues in a new advanced AI research group. ☆ McDonald’s is bringing back iconic McNugget Buddies as limited-edition collectibles

McDonald's will roll out the Kerwin Frost Box, a collab with New York-based artist Kerwin Frost, on December 11. But the star of the limited-time collab are the McNugget Buddies, an assortment of anthropomorphic McNuggets that haven't been a part of McDonald's mascot rotation in decades. The McNugget Buddies were first introduced in a 1988 Happy Meal, according to McDonald's. They made appearances in McDonald's Canada comics in the early 1993, were available as Sports Buddies in the UK, Japan and Singapore in 1992 and were last seen in 1996 for McNugget Buddies Halloween. The six new McNugget Buddies are based on Frost's experiences growing up in New York City, including one that is designed to look like him.
