CNN —Multiple people were killed, including a child, when a helicopter slammed into a communications tower behind homes in Houston’s Second Ward on Sunday night, causing a fiery explosion and toppling the structure, Mayor John Whitmire said. Officials did not clarify how many were killed, but there were four people onboard the privately-owned Robinson R44 helicopter, according to Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz. The aircraft appears to have departed the Ellington Airport, which is about 17 miles south of the crash site, but its destination is unclear, the mayor said. Photos shared by the fire department show the mangled tower draped across a dirt clearing behind a line of homes. Some homes near the crash site lost power, Whitmire said.

Their only feasible guide is Otis, a cagey German heroin addict with scorched eyeballs who once mapped the caves. They manage to get to base of the cave, but it is on mine company property and the entrance has been blown to pieces.

If there is tension around the mine, they’re the ones squelching protests or arresting activists like Annie for breaking the law. That, inevitably, puts them on one side of a stark racial line.

One question we might have asked ourselves was whether “North Country” would become a genuine ghost story or a hybrid, blending the noir sleuthing of previous “True Detective” seasons with mere intimations of the supernatural. This second hour throws a little bit of ice-cold water on the weird stuff, at least insofar as it pertains to the deaths of these scientists and the unsolved murder of Annie, a young Inupiaq activist. When Navarro asks Rose about Travis, an ex-lover who turns up to her as a spirit, it is blithely accepted that such ghosts can appear in the darkness from time to time. As for the case itself, there’s a lot of strong, meat-and-potatoes procedural work in this episode that suggests it can be solved. The show no longer seems in danger of drifting into the inexplicable.

The Mexican director was looking for a region of the United States that had a totally different physical feel from the previous three “True Detective” installments, which were set in Louisiana, Los Angeles and Arkansas, respectively. But that isn’t the only potential legal jeopardy the Enhanced Games faces, according to American lawyer Jim Walden, who represents Russian whistleblower Grigory Rodchenkov. “If you look at the Enhanced Games website, it’s almost as though they’re advertising their disregard of the law,” Walden told CNN Sport. If it goes ahead as planned in December 2024, D’Souza insists that the Enhanced Games will unlock the potential of humanity.

(AP) — Derrick Anderson, a U.S. Army combat veteran and attorney, announced plans Monday to again seek the Republican nomination for a Virginia congressional seat that could be a key to determining party control of the U.S. House. The former Green Beret pledged in a statement to run a “tireless, heartfelt, and genuine” campaign to represent the 7th District in the Fredericksburg area, where he grew up. Vega went on to lose to Democratic U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who has represented the 7th District since 2018. Speculation has swirled for months that Spanberger, seen by Democrats as a rising star and by Republicans as a formidable opponent, will run for Virginia governor in 2025. The 7th District was overhauled during the redistricting process that ended in late 2021.
