Apple's hearing protection feature for AirPods Pro 2 rolls out with iOS 18.1 next week. The AirPods Pro 2 are also getting the ability to turn into hearing aids for people with mild to moderate hearing loss. Over-the-counter hearing aids can cost up to thousands of dollars, so Apple is looking to position the AirPods Pro 2 as a lower-cost option at $249. The US approved the sale of over-the-counter hearing aids in 2022 following the passage of the Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act of 2017 . Gene therapy has allowed several children born with inherited deafness to hear. Globally, 34 million children have deafness or hearing loss, and genes are responsible for up to 60% of cases. Hereditary deafness is the latest condition scientists are targeting with gene therapy, which is already approved to treat illnesses such as sickle cell disease and severe hemophilia. Also, some people consider gene therapy for deafness ethically problematic. "This is real proof showing gene therapy is working,” Chen said.

Some in the news media were reluctant to direct their audiences to Mr. Trump, especially shortly after he left office, for fear that it would only amplify his lies about his election loss. Since 2016, both Republican and Democratic leaders have often agreed that it helps Democrats to have Mr. Trump at the political fore. Mr. Biden has signaled his plans to highlight Mr. Trump’s efforts to subvert his loss in the 2020 election, invoking the attack on the Capitol and Mr. Trump’s revisionist history of what happened.

To raise more emotionally intelligent kids, parents need to speak to them in emotionally intelligent ways. Here are three phrases that parents of emotionally intelligent kids never use — and what to say instead:1. What to say instead: The emotionally intelligent response is to be curious about where your child's motivation and abilities intersect. If you're locked in a disagreement with a seemingly willful kid, instead of asking them why they don't listen, consider asking, "Have I listened to you?" Emotionally intelligent parents don't strive for compliance from their children, but for connection.
