As artificial intelligence fuels the boom in data center growth, investors are eyeing a new frontier: the companies keeping these digital powerhouses cool. That's because historically, data centers used air cooling to manage the heat generated by traditional cloud applications. The final three-month stretch of 2024 is here, and Wall Street is riding high. RBC head of derivatives strategy Amy Wu Silverman noted her clients are bracing for "3 standard-deviation drawdowns" in coming weeks. The VVIX gauges the volatility of the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) itself — seen by many as Wall Street's preferred measurement of how much investor fear is in the market. That … is a very different narrative from the first six months of this year," Wu Silverman added. Elsewhere on Wall Street this morning, Pivotal Research Group initiated analyst coverage of Alphabet , the parent of Google and YouTube, with a buy rating.

Although it is very volatile and exhibits wild swings, in the 1-year daily chart shown below, it becomes evident how confined its movement is within a well-defined trading range. Whenever it breaches one of these levels, it quickly stabilizes in a new trading range. Based on this analysis, I am considering a bearish set-up while keeping the top of its current trading range in mind. The trade Given the bearish outlook, I'm using a call credit spread as my trade structure. If the index stays below $2,260 by the expiration date, the trade will yield an ROI of 42% on the capital risked.

The Fed earlier this month cut interest rates by a half percentage point, the first easing of policy in more than four years. Wall Street sees further reductions ahead, too. The Cboe Volatilty Index spiked north of 23 earlier this month, as worries over the U.S. economy weighed on sentiment. For investors who just weathered a bout of summer turbulence, Goldman Sachs said expect more patchiness in stocks, but believes the bull market will remain intact. "However, we think the risk of a bear market remains low with relatively low recession risk, helped by a healthy private sector and central bank easing." The stock market benchmark has since recouped much of the losses, recently trading some 3.4% below its July 16 all-time high. A bear market represents at least a 20% decline from the S & P 500's record high, while even a correction would amount to a 10% drawdown. … Encouragingly, though … we are not staring at a severe slowdown," Bank of America said in a note to clients on Tuesday.

Higher valuations, a mixed macro outlook, and policy uncertainty raise the risk of further declines for stocks. Yet, odds of a bear market are low amid a strong private sector and coming rate cuts, Goldman Sachs says. AdvertisementMacro and policy uncertainty have raised warning signs for further volatility for stocks in recent weeks, but the risk of a steeper correction into bear market territory looks remote, Goldman Sachs analysts said. According to the bank, there's an elevated risk that investors pullback amid lofty valuations, a mixed macro outlook, and policy uncertainty. The firm's outlook comes as indexes have been rattled in recent months by volatility stemming from weaker-than-expected macro data.

Goldman Sachs said the decline in the S&P 500 is historically a good buying opportunity for investors. AdvertisementThe S&P 500's 6% decline over the past three days represents a great buying opportunity for investors, according to a note from Goldman Sachs strategist David Kostin. However, despite the decline, the S&P 500 is still up nearly 10% year-to-date and the sell-off sparked a reset in valuations, with the index's forward price-to-earnings multiple falling to 20x. Advertisement"Historical experience shows that investors typically profit when buying the S&P 500 index following a 5% sell-off," Kostin said. The crux of whether a 10% correction in the S&P 500 represents a solid buying opportunity for investors is whether the economy is on the verge of a recession.

Companies with disappointing quarterly results are getting punished more than usual this earnings season. This phenomenon underscores the high expectations going into this season as well as a stock market that's viewed by many as overheated. Case in point, shares of Ford Motors plunged more than 18% on Thursday after the automaker came in short of earnings expectations due to warranty costs. "So far this earnings season, the results for many large bellwether companies have been better than the stock reactions," John Belton, portfolio manager at Gabelli Funds, said in an email. Goldman Sachs is warning clients of a summer correction in the stock market as economic growth slows down and political risks rise. The S & P 500 is up about 16% year to date, just 2% off its record high. Goldman said it sees increasing risk of a correction. Typically, a correction is defined as a 10% drawdown from a recent high in the S & P 500 and a bear market equals to a 20% pullback. The S & P 500 is currently off 2% from its recent high.

By the time intelligence collected on overseas ISIS targets connected the men to the terror group, they had already been vetted by immigration authorities and allowed into the country, officials said. The men remain in federal custody on immigration charges and will eventually be deported following the counterterror investigation into them. US officials and analysts who closely track Islamist terror groups do know that ISIS-K has dramatically ramped up its online propaganda machine. But that’s not necessarily a reliable gauge of the number of actual terrorists who may be trying to enter the United States, US officials argue. Or they could belong to a legacy terror group — like the FARC — that isn’t known for conducting attacks on US soil.

In this article BTC.CM= Follow your favorite stocks CREATE FREE ACCOUNTOmer Taha Cetin | Anadolu | Getty ImagesA major thesis around bitcoin ETFs was that financial advisors needed regulated funds like them to direct their wealthy clients to invest in bitcoin. For one, bitcoin ETFs have been hailed as the most successful ETF launches in history, with BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) reaching $20 billion in assets under management this week, even with advisors sitting out. CNBC spoke with a dozen members of CNBC's Advisor Council, which includes Baker, to learn why so many financial planners are still down on bitcoin and bitcoin ETFs, and what could cause them to change their tune. Many hope consistent flows into bitcoin ETFs over the years can lower that volatility, but for now, it's still a deterrent for some. "Financial advisors now have a way to give clients access [to bitcoin] that's safe, reliable and regulated," said Bradley Klontz, managing principal of YMW Advisors in Boulder, Colorado.
