Special counsel Jack Smith urged a federal judge to reimpose and broaden a gag order on Donald Trump, outlining how the former president has used the short window of time since the original gag order was lifted to attack and intimidate witnesses.
But Chutkan paused the gag order last week to allow Trump’s defense team time to argue why his speech should not be restricted.
The ACLU has since sided with Trump, arguing that the gag order is a violation of First Amendment free speech protections.
It took only days, though, for Trump to give Smith more ammunition for why the gag order is necessary.
In response to the news, Trump took to his TruthSocial account to address Meadows.
