Police and operatives of the SNAI prison authority were shown wheeling out two pigs from the prison in images shared by Ecuador's military in a message posted on Twitter. The authorities also removed 12 fighting cocks, 26 bladed weapons, 16 electrical items, and other objects, they tweeted, without saying how the animals ended up there. Ecuador's prisons are plagued by poor conditions and violence, the latter leading to the deaths of hundreds of inmates.

The Indigenous community argues it was not consulted about the new operation of the blocks by Petroecuador and made other social demands. Petroecuador took over production of the blocks at the start of this year. Petroecuador's production is around 393,000 barrels of oil per day, according to official data. Talking to a local media outlet on Monday, Santos acknowledged Petroecuador is not audited by an international firm and its financial reporting does not comply with international standards. Petroecuador began a tendering process to appoint an auditor in August, it said. "As the process is financed with international cooperation funds, the hiring must follow the guidelines established by the international organization," the company added. Former Energy Minister Xavier Vera resigned at the end of October over a separate investigation into allegations that he took bribes in exchange for jobs at Petroecuador.
