The feature, called Teen Accounts, is meant to address the harm social media can do to young peoples' mental health. This is a good first step, says Dr. Shannon Bennett, associate director of the center for youth mental health at NewYork-Presbyterian. "The opportunity cost while using social media is sleep or in-person socialization," she says. Experts agree the new features might net positive changes, but say its really too early to tell. In his best-selling book "The Anxious Generation" NYU social psychologist Johnathan Haidt also cited social media and smartphones as a major cause of youth loneliness.

After Tuesday’s onstage meeting, Harris had said that she and her opponent owed it to voters to debate again. Harris’ senior campaign adviser, David Plouffe, blasted Trump on X as “chicken man.”The Republican nominee often changes his mind. He asked, “Wasn’t ‘The Apprentice’ a great show, though?” and wistfully reminisced about the final night of his election campaign in 2016. Will Trump stick to his refusal to debate Harris again? But Bryan Lanza, a senior Trump campaign advisor, insisted that this was a tactical decision.

The psychotherapist's 2020 book, "Polysecure," has become the poly bible for an increasingly queer and fluid generation. As consensual nonmonogamy went mainstream, searches for Fern's "Polysecure" spiked. "I've heard authors joke they get a cup of coffee from their book," Fern said. When Jessica Fern and Dave Cooley opened up their relationship, Cooley was surprised at the "searing anguish" he felt about his wife seeing other men. Haidt and other researchers argue that technology and social media have led to an epidemic of isolation and loneliness. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy named social media as one of the main reasons young people feel more alone. "Social media is not this monolithic experience where everybody experiences the same thing," he says. As they seek effective attack lines against Vice President Kamala Harris, Republicans are focusing on her role in the Biden administration’s border and immigration policies, seeking to blame her for the surge of migrants into the United States over the past several years. A review of her involvement in the issue shows a more nuanced record. But she did have a prominent role in trying to ensure that a record surge of global migration did not become worse. After the number of migrants crossing the southern border hit record levels at times during the administration’s first three years, crossings have now dropped to their lowest levels since Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris took office. Her early efforts at handling her role and the administration’s policies were widely panned, even by some Democrats, as clumsy and counterproductive, especially in displaying defensiveness over why she had not visited the border.

This exclusive series on the Supreme Court is based on CNN sources inside and outside the court with knowledge of the deliberations. Justices weren’t in a hurry to hear the caseThe immunity case first arrived at the justices’ door in December. Perhaps, she hoped to influence lower court judges to read the Roberts opinion as more flexible for a future prosecution. It was a particularly extreme section of Roberts’ opinion – decided by the kind of 5-4 vote the chief justice usually tried to avoid. At a time when China's economy is facing headwinds, and growth has been slowing, where are the Chinese ultra-rich, whose numbers are expected to swell to 144,897 by 2028 from 98,551 in 2023, parking their wealth? However, the country's high-end property market remains a favored asset. Luxury real estate"There has been a noticeable increase in transactions within Shanghai's luxury real estate sector," said James Macdonald, head of China research at global real estate firm Savills, attributing it to a recent policy easing by the government. That said, China's luxury real estate market is still primarily concentrated in the core areas of first-tier cities, said Li. Other local investment classes, such as the wider property market and China-listed stocks are not as popular among the ultra rich, experts told CNBC.

CNN —Confronted with a barrage of negative social media posts from former President Donald Trump aimed at his wife, second gentleman Doug Emhoff eschewed machismo or defensiveness. “That’s all he got?” he said Tuesday of the attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris, the new and historic presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. And Monday, he leaned into a cheerleader role as he introduced the vice president at her Wilmington, Delaware, campaign headquarters. So I think that gives you a fairly good indication of if he now would move into a precedent-setting first gentleman role,” McBride said. “This first gentleman role is being a supportive spouse and understanding better than anyone the administration’s goals and how to go about best achieving that,” she said.

The uncertainty has led Morgan Stanley to reiterate its recommendation to buy dividend stocks. The investment bank noted that the MSCI Asia Pacific ex-Japan High Dividend Index has slightly underperformed the MSCI Asia Pacific ex-Japan index in the second quarter of the year, albeit by only 0.34 percentage points. "We still prefer Dividend stocks given cautious risk sentiment in Asia/EM and see support in valuations for quality dividend stocks due to their defensiveness. Dropping in Just to Say ‘Hi!’
  + stars: | 2024-07-07 | by ( Anna Holmes | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
When this colleague reaches out to team members via the Slack platform, he will frequently just say “Hi <Name>” with no follow-up. Or are we all just obstinate and are not being understanding of a different communication style? For one thing: Is he saying “Hi <Name>” as a way to start a conversation about work with the colleague to whom his “hi” is directed? Delivering feedback about a person’s personal — or, in this case, professional — communication style requires a light touch. Send the guy a direct message and say, “Hey [insert co-worker’s name], when you write ‘hi’ without any follow-up, it freaks me out!” and append the message with an “lol” or a laughing emoji.

Here are nine phrases the mentally strongest people avoid using — and what they say instead. What to say instead: "I have a baseline of mental strength I can build from." What to say instead: "I have a strong point of view but am willing to listen." What to say instead: "You're not there yet," or, "What did you learn from this that you could apply moving forward?"

The second half of this year is the perfect time for Walmart, according to JPMorgan. The firm upgraded Walmart to overweight from neutral and raised its price target to $81, which represents a 23% gain from Friday's close. Walmart also said it would hit the high-end of its full-year guidance as it won over more higher-income shoppers. JPMorgan said that, along with liking Walmart's individual merits, there was also a macroeconomic reason behind the call. JPMorgan said it was maintaining its 2024 EPS forecast of $2.57, which is above the $2.43 Wall Street consensus and raising its 2025 EPS estimate to $2.86.

Read previewOne sign we're in a crypto revival: Crypto prices are roaring again. Another sign: Crypto companies are advertising on TV again. Crypto.com isn't the only one pushing crypto on TV again. It makes perfect sense to run it side-by-side with ads telling you how fun it would be to bet on the very game you're watching (unless you're an NBA player). All that said, the 2024 crypto revival still seems more like an echo of the last boom than a replay.

The latest macro data is sending mixed signals, reflecting both a "no landing" and a "soft landing," Morgan Stanley said. The bank recommends defensive sectors, including consumer staples, to navigate volatility. AdvertisementInvestors should ramp up investments in defensive stock sectors like consumer staples and utilities as the latest data sends mixed signals about the economy, Morgan Stanley says. Based on this rationale, Wilson suggests opting for robust cyclical names in a no-landing scenario and premium growth stocks in a soft landing. It also provides some more defensiveness to portfolios as a hedge amid uncertain/unpredictable macro data," they said.
