Australia will be only one of three nations to have Tomahawks along with the U.S. and Britain, Defence Minister Richard Marles said. Earlier this year it agreed to work with the United States and Britain to develop a nuclear-powered submarine fleet. In addition to the Tomahawks, Australia would spend about A$431 million to purchase more than 60 advanced anti-radiation guided missiles from the United States, the defence minister said.

Cu o înălţime de aproape trei metri, tronsonul provine din scara elicoidală originală a turnului, datând din 1889, care lega etajele al doilea şi al treilea ale monumentului.Provenită dintr-o colecţie privată canadiană, secţiunea fusese estimată la un preţ cuprins în intervalul 30.000 - 40.000 de euro, însă a fost vândută la un preţ de aproape de zece ori mai mare decât estimarea iniţială.În 1983, instalarea unui ascensor între ultimele două etaje ale Turnului Eiffel a făcut necesară demontarea şi tăierea unei scări în 24 de secţiuni.Una dintre ele a fost păstrată la primul etaj al monumentului, în timp ce alte trei au fost donate Muzeului d'Orsay, Muzeului Oraşul Ştiinţei şi Industriei din Paris şi Muzeului de Istorie a fierului din Nancy.În 1983, cele 20 de secţiuni rămase au fost vândute unor colecţionari din întreaga lume.
