Read previewI've traveled around the world, but even after a dozen visits, Paris remains my favorite city. The Eiffel Tower is iconic, but the view from the Montparnasse Tower is equally stunningThe Montparnasse Tower offers panoramic views of Paris. AdvertisementBut if I were looking for Instagrammable views of Paris' most famous landmark, I'd head to the Montparnasse neighborhood. The rooftop terrace atop Paris' only skyscraper, Montparnasse Tower, has 360-degree city views and tons of space to spread out. It's scheduled to open later this year, and it's a must-see if you're visiting Paris for the first time.

Australia's Defence Minister Richard Marles attends a joint news conference with France's Foreign and Defence ministers at the Quai d'Orsay in Paris, France, January 30, 2023. REUTERS/Sarah Meyssonnier/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSYDNEY, Nov 18 (Reuters) - Australia's government said on Saturday it had expressed serious concerns to China after an "unsafe and unprofessional" interaction between an Australian navy vessel and Chinese warship left Australian military divers injured. He said despite the Australian vessel notifying the Chinese warship of the diving operation and requesting that it keep clear, the destroyer approached "at a closer range". "Soon after, it was detected operating its hull-mounted sonar in a manner that posed a risk to the safety of the Australian divers who were forced to exit the water." The conduct was "unsafe and unprofessional", Marles said.

PARIS (AP) — Planted in a field, Vincent van Gogh painted furiously, bending the thick oils, riotous yellows and sumptuous blues to his will. And it had a doctor who specialized in depression, Paul Gachet, who took Van Gogh on as a patient. The exhibit includes 11 paintings that Van Gogh painted on unusual elongated canvases, experimenting to stunning effect. Another version of the exhibition, with 10 of the elongated canvases, was first shown at Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum earlier this year. “It’s a real fireworks show.”"Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise: The Final Months" runs at the Musée d'Orsay through Feb. 4, 2024.

But in an about turn, Macron announced on Sunday that the ambassador would return to Paris and French troops would leave. Two security sources in Niger said Itte had flown out of the country. Demonstrators hold placards and Niger's flags as they gather outside Niger's embassy in support of the President of Niger Mohamed Bazoum in Paris, France, August 5, 2023. Crowds of junta supporters have spent days camping outside a French military base to demand the troops' departure. Some analysts have expressed concern that the withdrawal of French troops from Niger could further hamper Western efforts to stem the violence, which has risen since the coups, and bolster Russian influence in the region.

REUTERS/Sarah Meyssonnier Acquire Licensing RightsSYDNEY, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Australia will spend A$1.3 billion ($833 million) to boost its long-range strike capabilities as it finalised on Monday a deal to buy more than 200 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States, part of a wide-ranging defence shake-up. Australia will be only one of three nations to have Tomahawks along with the U.S. and Britain, Defence Minister Richard Marles said. Earlier this year it agreed to work with the United States and Britain to develop a nuclear-powered submarine fleet. In addition to the Tomahawks, Australia would spend about A$431 million to purchase more than 60 advanced anti-radiation guided missiles from the United States, the defence minister said.

In the video, a Central African Republic rebel fighter says "the French want to drive Wagner out of Africa". Russia and Wagner have a track record of media manipulation and disinformation, which Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin has admitted to. The European Union sanctioned Wagner in February for alleged rights abuses and spreading disinformation, including in Africa. The foreign ministry unit doesn’t promote or generate fake news, the two diplomats said. However, the foreign ministry unit, and the broader strategy, will face an uphill battle to convince people in Africa that France has changed, seven analysts and diplomats said.

Picasso: Love Him or Hate Him?

It is not hugely cool to profess a love for Picasso these days. This is what Picasso’s detractors — like Hannah Gadsby, the Australian comedian and Picasso basher, who will help curate a Picasso show at the Brooklyn Museum opening on June 2 — often miss. Picasso, by contrast, brought the weight of lived experience into his work, even when he was tethered to archetypal subjects. “The Mother” (1901), an early painting by Picasso, shows a view of motherhood purged of Renaissance idealization. The conventional view of the painting holds that the women are “dolled-up cocottes,” as John Richardson glibly put it in his biography of Picasso.

REUTERS/Benoit TessierPARIS, March 6 (Reuters) - Louis Vuitton (LVMH.PA) took to the Musee d'Orsay for its fall-winter catwalk show on Monday, sending a modern lineup of playful, sculptural looks down a slick, black runway designed to evoke a Paris street. Handbags were varied, including one fashioned to look like a typical blue Paris street sign, trimmed in green - with "Louis Vuitton" stamped in white letters. Paris Fashion Week, which features big-name fashion labels including LVMH-owned Dior, Kering SA-owned (PRTP.PA) Saint Laurent, Valentino and Chanel, winds up on Tuesday.
