The four-person crew, which spent nearly eight months aboard the International Space Station before landing in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday at 3:29 a.m. However, the astronauts “were taken to a local medical facility for additional evaluation,” NASA news chief Cheryl Warner said in a statement from the space agency shared at 8 a.m. “Out of an abundance of caution, all crew members were flown to the facility together.”Warner confirmed at 9 a.m. ET that the crew was still at the medical facility, but did not provide details about the nature of the medical checks. Additional weather delays also pushed the Crew-8 astronauts’ return into late October.

Because carrying out a spacewalk will create a drain on oxygen supplies, the Polaris Dawn mission will have only enough life support for five or six days in space. If successful, Polaris Dawn would beat that record by about 20 miles (32 kilometers). Polaris Dawn may also mark the farthest any woman has ever gone into space.

As a result, the Starlink satellites were deployed into a lower than intended orbit,” according to a statement from SpaceX. Musk added that the Starlink satellites were deployed into orbit, but they may be too near Earth to remain there for long. It’s not clear what this mishap means for the future of SpaceX’s Falcon 9.

Russian space agency Roscosmos said that coolant leaked from an external backup radiator for Russia's new science lab. The incident follows recent coolant leaks from Russian spacecraft parked at the station. CNN —A NASA astronaut on her inaugural spaceflight and two cosmonauts launched aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft toward the International Space Station Friday, marking the first time Russia has launched astronauts to the orbiting outpost in nearly a year. The Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at 11:44 a.m. ET and began a quick, three-hour trajectory to rendezvous with the space station. Cunningham joined crewmates Walter Schirra and Donn Eisele for the successful 11-day mission, which was conducted in low-Earth orbit as the first human test flight of the new Apollo spacecraft that would later venture to the moon. Apollo 7 marked the resumption of NASA's lunar spaceflight program 21 months after the fire that killed all three members of the Apollo 1 crew during a ground-based launch rehearsal in late January 1967. "Walt Cunningham was a fighter pilot, physicist, and an entrepreneur – but, above all, he was an explorer," NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said in a statement announcing his death.

He passed on a chance to land on the moon and instead became the space agency’s program manager for five Apollo missions after the Apollo 11 moon landing. ... it was like cellophane and tin foil put together with Scotch tape and staples!”Unlike many of his fellow astronauts, McDivitt didn’t yearn to fly from childhood. McDivitt didn’t have money for college growing up in Kalamazoo, Michigan. “And being the second or third guy wasn’t that important to me.”So McDivitt went into management, first of the Apollo lunar lander, then for the Houston part of the entire program.
