Harris is 59 and was born October 20, 1964 — putting her just weeks outside the Gen X range which is generally thought to span 1965 to the early 1980s. His successor has not been confirmed, but one name being floated is his Gen X lieutenant Stephanie Pope. Could the House of Mouse soon have its first Gen X leader? The picture is not completely clear on how Gen X bosses differ from their predecessors on issues such as remote work and the role of AI in the workplace. WASHINGTON — The first Trump presidency shattered conservative economic ideology on the Republican Party's approach to free markets and tariffs. Source: AmericanCompass.org To be clear, this is not yet the dominant strain of Republican economic thinking in Washington. Cass argues that Republican economic policy has been focused on the wrong goals: lowering prices and increasing consumption. "It was absolutely black letter economic doctrine that the point of economic policy was to consume as much as possible. watch now"Spinning assets in circles creates nothing of value, and in fact creates the opposite of value," Cass said.

Youth unemployment, income inequality, regional disparities, and Russian oil remain big problems. But the work starts there, as he'll have to navigate thorny issues such as youth unemployment, income inequality, and reliance on sanctioned Russian oil. "The other key economic policy was JAM — the trinity of bank accounts for the poor, mobile numbers and a biometric card. This ritual, epitomized by high-profile engagements — such as Apple CEO Tim Cook's effusive overtures and statements of commitments to China — signals that American corporate titans think the strategy can still work. Tim Cook's narrative of China as "critical" to Apple , coupled with his admiration for the country's advanced manufacturing capabilities, embodies the ethos of this engagement playbook. Opinion: The return to office fallacy

And yet, some corporate titans are still pushing for their employees to return to their offices. Working parents, in particular, benefit from not having to waste time, money and flexibility commuting to an office. A 2023 Bankrate survey found that 74% of working women with children are in favor of remote work, while 64% of all working Americans support it. I am writing this column in Washington, DC, but work with editors in New York, London or Atlanta. So why do some bosses still feel it necessary to prolong the slow and necessary death of The Office?

Davos Welcomes Global Elites to Solve World’s Problems

Political, business and other elites will gather once again Monday for the World Economic Forum’s 54th annual meeting in the Alpine hamlet of Davos, Switzerland, to tackle the thorniest of problems, from war to inequality to climate change. The forum is not without its own controversy, having been pegged over the years as a haven for globalists and ruling elites. This year’s conference comes on the heels of a report released Wednesday by think tank The Conference Board detailing findings from a survey of global business leaders, which showed a global economic downturn and inflation are among the top concerns of CEOs worldwide. With Russia’s war in Ukraine and the Israel-Hamas conflict raging on, global political instability also topped the list of things keeping corporate leaders awake at night. Meanwhile, global growth is expected to slow to 2.4% in 2024, according to a report from the World Bank released on Tuesday.

Now for the first time this century, sales volumes at the big consumer goods manufacturers are falling. In the first nine months of the year, Kraft Heinz said the quantity of its sold items declined by nearly 6 percentage points year-on-year. That’s likely to allow Nestlé, Kraft Heinz and Unilever to see flat or modest increases in 2023 sales, LSEG data shows. Earlier this year, outgoing Kraft Heinz Chief Executive Miguel Patricio said the company lost market share to a branded competitor that spent more. Unilever, Nestlé and Kraft Heinz have all pointed to a slowing of price growth in the coming year.

The challenge for Frankel’s video is to do that in the train hall, and it can’t. Frankel’s piece matches our expectations for screen-play rather than transcending them, which means we’re not likely to notice it at all. Like lots of critics, curators and artists, I’ve always thought it made a lot of sense to insert video art, or art of almost any kind, into our everyday lives and communal spaces. And up on the screens at Moynihan, Frankel’s piece functions, whether he wants it to or not, as another ad for us to ignore. But would corporate titans stand to see their ads screened alongside art that’s wild enough to outshine them?

Freeman also worked as a contract lawyer for Jackson Walker after leaving the firm. Jones and Jackson Walker signed off on the arrangement without disclosing the relationship, court papers show. Until then he was the busiest bankruptcy judge in the United States, overseeing the dissolution or restructuring of corporate titans ranging from Neiman Marcus to J.C. Penney. Bankruptcy judges often serve as mediators in complex cases that are being run by other judges. In the GWG bankruptcy, Jackson Walker on Nov. 30 asked the judge overseeing the case to appoint Jones as mediator.

Over nearly a half-century, Carl Icahn has shaken up Wall Street as a corporate raider and activist shareholder, making corporate titans bow down to his demands and change their business strategies. But on Tuesday, his publicly traded company, Icahn Enterprises, became a target of Hindenburg Research, the short seller firm that has made its name in recent years by taking on the Indian tycoon Gautam Adani and the Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. Hindenburg accused Icahn Enterprises of being overvalued. The company trades well above its net asset value, unlike similar financial vehicles run by William A. Ackman and Daniel S. Loeb. “Icahn has been using money taken in from new investors to pay out dividends to old investors,” Hindenburg wrote in a public report.

While the former student protest leader's proposal to give the government a majority stake in all future lithium projects faces an uncertain path in Congress, its mere introduction shook one of the mining industry's most lucrative corners. Lithium is in high demand for rechargeable batteries for future fleets of electric vehicles in the global transition to green energy. That leaves the exception to the trend, Argentina, as an increasingly likely Latin American destination for new private capital for lithium. So will Fed Chair Jerome Powell dampen expectations and reiterate that the fight against inflation still has a way to go, or will the Fed show signs that they’re ready to ease up on rate hikes? Wall Street analysts also expect the Fed will stop hiking altogether by the spring. Jan 30 (Reuters) - A look at the day ahead in Asian markets from Jamie McGeever. It looks like a quiet start to the week in Asia on Monday, but don't be fooled - it may be the calm before the storm. The MSCI Asia ex-Japan index is at a nine-month high and up more than 30% from the October low. It has risen in 11 of the last 13 weeks and is on course for a monthly gain of 11%. China reopens after the Lunar New Year holiday, so trading volumes in Asia will return to something resembling normal.
Increasingly, they said conversations in C-suites and with financiers had turned to the risks that climate change presented to businesses. Climate activist Greta Thunberg made the journey up the Swiss Alps to call on the global energy industry and its financiers to end all fossil fuel investments. Suni Harford, the president of UBS's asset management arm who leads the bank's sustainability efforts, said her conversations at Davos suggested no let up in focus on climate, despite the shorter-term pressures. "Clients are becoming ever more informed on the energy transition, demand for sustainable and green products has held up well, and clients are increasingly looking to measure the impact of their portfolios." "Put forward credible and transparent transition plans on how to achieve net zero – and submit those plans before the end of this year," Guterres said in a speech.
MEXICO CITY, Nov 23 (Reuters) - Mexican bank Grupo Financiero Inbursa (GFINBURO.MX) said on Wednesday it had pulled out of the bidding process for U.S. bank Citigroup's Mexican retail arm Citibanamex. "Inbursa confirms that, following submission of a non-binding proposal for the businesses in question, the parties mutually agreed that Inbursa will not be continuing to the next stages of the process," it said in a filing. Mexican corporate titans Carlos Slim's Inbursa and German Larrea's Grupo Mexico (GMEXICOB.MX) were seen as the frontrunners in bidding for Citibanamex, known too as Banamex. Earlier this month, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said there are at least three remaining bidders for Banamex. Wall Street has increased its pressure on companies to get more efficient amid the ongoing stock market decline. Bob Iger's abrupt return to Disney as CEO this week is the latest example that investors are calling the shots. Corporate titans like Meta's Mark Zuckerberg and Alphabet's Sundar Pichai have not been immune to the pressure from Wall Street. Now, Disney is facing new pressure from Trian Fund Management's Nelson Peltz, according to the Wall Street Journal. These are three other companies that have faced pressure from investors recently as their stock prices suffer.
Financial details were not disclosed, and Deutsche Bank said it would continue to grow and invest in Mexico through its broker dealer business there. The purchase of Deutsche Bank's license allows Citi to sidestep the lengthy process of independently applying for its own, once the split is complete. The retail operation will become known as Banco Nacional de Mexico, or Banamex, while the wholesale unit will be called Citi Mexico, Citi's country chief said in September. Deutsche Bank said it would still do business in Mexico. "Deutsche Bank is committed to deliver our global emerging markets platform to all of our client base through our Mexico broker dealer entity," the bank said.
REUTERS/Andrew Kelly/Companies Trump Organization Inc FollowNEW YORK, Nov 3 (Reuters) - A New York judge on Thursday ordered that an independent watchdog be appointed to oversee the Trump Organization before a civil fraud case by the state's attorney general against Donald Trump's company goes to trial. Last month, James asked the Manhattan-based judge to appoint an independent monitor to halt ongoing fraud at the company and keep the Trumps from transferring assets out of her reach. In a statement, the Trump Organization objected to "political persecution" by James, a Democrat, ahead of the Nov. 8 midterm elections. He said James had no legal authority to challenge how Trump valued his properties, calling it a private matter between Trump's company and its lenders and insurers. The Trump Organization manages hotels, golf courses and other real estate around the world.
New York Attorney General Letitia James responded to Donald Trump's new lawsuit filed against her Wednesday night. James alleged Trump is still committing fraud and is "seeking to put assets beyond this Court's reach." Trump accused the attorney general of abusing her power by investigating him and his family. Kevin Wallace, a lead prosecutor in the James lawsuit against Trump, told a judge that the AG is still "seeking an injunction against ongoing fraudulent activities by the Trump Organization." Trump's lawsuit on Wednesday is the latest legal action he's taken against James, who he has frequently railed against and accused of being corrupt.
The bid amounts for the unit, known too as Banamex, were not disclosed by the sources. The sources also cautioned that no deal was guaranteed with any party and Citigroup could ultimately decide to sell Banamex shares on the Mexican Stock Exchange instead. Inbursa and Grupo Mexico declined to comment. Backed by Slim, Mexico's richest person, Inbursa was flagged as a strong contender when Citigroup put Banamex up for sale in January. However, mining tycoon Larrea has the firepower to compete as a candidate to buy Banamex, the sources said.
