CNN —After months of speculation, Chanel has named its new artistic director. On Thursday, Matthieu Blazy — most recently, the creative director of luxury Italian label Bottega Veneta — was appointed to one of the most high-profile jobs in fashion. Blazy is only the fourth head designer of the French fashion house founded in 1910, and follows on from Virginie Viard, Karl Lagerfeld and Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. She started at Chanel as an intern in 1987 and went on to become Lagerfeld’s deputy for decades, totaling 30 years at the company. I look forward to meeting all the teams and writing this new chapter together.”On Thursday, Bottega Veneta announced Louise Trotter as its new creative director.

At least 1,017 out LGBTQ candidates ran for election this year, a 1.1% increase compared with 2020, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, a political organization that tracks and supports LGBTQ candidates for elected office. The LGBTQ+ Victory Fund endorsed and tracked 477 of the LGBTQ candidates who made it to the general election. As of Friday afternoon, about three-quarters of those races had been called, with LGBTQ candidates having a success rate of approximately 80%. LGBTQ candidates won elections to at least 37 state legislatures this year, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, and several were historic firsts. “Having LGBTQ+ candidates in the halls of power will be paramount in helping to protect and uphold pro-equality values,” Meloy said.

CNN —Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a scathing assessment of the modern Republican Party in an upcoming biography, saying the “MAGA movement is completely wrong” and that Ronald Reagan “wouldn’t recognize” the party today. CNN —For the first time in its 147-year history, Wimbledon will be removing line judges from all of its courts during the tournament. The All England Club announced on Wednesday that from the 2025 championships onwards, electronic line calling (ELC) will be used after it was successfully tested in 2024. ELC will replace the line judges who call “out” or “fault” during a match and will also be used in Wimbledon qualifying ahead of the tournament. Wimbledon successfully trialed the technology at this year's championships. Wimbledon’s adoption of the technology leaves the clay-court French Open as the only remaining grand slam yet to implement ELC.
