Dominic Gwinn/AFP/Getty Images/FileHowell estimates his group has submitted around 65,000 requests to federal agencies under the Freedom of Information Act, a law that governs public access to records produced by the government. Timothy D. America First Policy Institute also has close ties to Trump’s transition. However, it so far has not published a list of federal employees for the Trump administration to target, though Howell did not rule it out.

AdvertisementFor more than a decade, Big Tech companies doled out lavish perks to hire and retain a limited supply of technical talent — and some workers pushed the limits of these benefits. AdvertisementBusiness Insider interviewed tech workers and industry experts about Grubgate and the evolving relationship between Big Tech companies and staff. They also described how layoffs, efficiency drives, and tougher policy enforcement have shifted the culture at once easygoing tech companies. According to job marketplace Trueup, at least 650,000 tech workers have been cut since the start of 2023. Alongside industrywide layoffs that began in 2022, many tech companies also trimmed back the benefits on offer.

OpenAI even partnered with Arizona State University to offer students and faculty full access to ChatGPT Enterprise for tutoring, coursework, research, and more. A professor in another post that received over 600 upvotes said that ChatGPT was "ruining" their love of teaching.

CNN —Like its titular tornados, “Twisters” blasts through a lot in its 122-minute runtime. Generally, scientists are the least certain about the connection between tornadoes and climate change as it’s unclear how warming temperatures are changing storms themselves or the outbreaks. Cathy, a local farmer, gripes that storms and floods are becoming more frequent, and the price of wheat more expensive, while stopping short of citing climate change. However, for a film populated by scientists and clued-in citizens to not mention climate change is a little like the twisters themselves: there’s a hole at the center. !”“Making a ‘Twisters’ movie in Tornado Alley during storm season, tornado season, it’s kind of perfect.

Then, three healthy ferrets were placed in the same enclosures with three of the sick animals. These animals could touch, nose and lick the sick animals, and all of them became ill.Next, the CDC tested airborne transmission by putting three healthy ferrets into an enclosure where they could breathe the same air as sick animals but couldn’t touch them. In her lab, ferrets with previous exposures to seasonal flu strains didn’t get as sick when exposed to new flu viruses compared to those with no prior exposure to seasonal strains. How much help we might get from past exposures to flu viruses is difficult to predict, however, which is why vaccination would still be important to tune up our immunity. They never spread the virus to any of the other animals in the facility — including themselves.

When your kid comes out as trans, here’s what to do

CNN spoke with a doctor, gender rights activists and parents of trans children about what to say when a child comes out as transgender, how to address certain challenges and what receiving gender-affirming care is like. Some parents want to support their child but worry if their gender identity is the result of a phase, or if they’ll change their mind later. It would be their decision resulting from the exploration of their gender identity, rather than someone trying to control it for them. Rhyland’s son later realized he is trans masculine nonbinary and uses he/him pronouns, and he’s OK with Rhyland calling him her son. (Trans masculine nonbinary means someone’s gender identity is nonbinary, yet they present in a typically masculine fashion with their name, style and more.)

Rebecca Yarros confirmed Violet Sorrengail has a second signet power in the "Empyrean" series. After the book's release, Yarros said Violet's second signet had already manifested in "Iron Flame." Violet's second signet power could be many things, but fans have a few ideasThere are multiple popular theories on what Violet's signet may be, but the three most popular theories are distance wielding, communicating with the dead, and amplifying other people's powers. Some readers also think Violet's second signet is an amplification of other people's signets, which would allow her to make the people around her more powerful. Only the third book will reveal what Violet's second signet is, though fans may be waiting for a while.

And it was a really, really awesome show. It was the Brooklyn United, they’re an all-Black marching band, kids who are basically raising money for the organization. And we hear in the distance, “ra-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta.” Some people in the back clued me in that it was a marching band. I was like, “Get over here!” And people made way and they came right in. They came right on in and just killed it.

Because I got a tax extension, I was able to work more closely with my CPA and go over all my questions. Those extra months to save made a difference, and I was able to shore up funds to pay for both my corporate and individual tax returns. And since I work with a tax professional, they usually require that I submit all my financial statements and tax documents well before the mid-April deadline. In fact, I usually need to pay quarterly estimated tax returns, plus I usually owe state and federal returns each year. While I don't recommend doing anything last-minute or late, filing my tax returns in mid-October last year did have some unexpected perks.

I always loved music videos and was very passionate about them. I grew up watching MTV's music video show "TRL," and was inspired to be a director by music videos from Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, Christina Aguilera, and Janet Jackson. They assume some artists get more money for a video, so they're comparing their videos to other artists' videos.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez discussed calls to ban TikTok in her debut on the app. The New York Democrat said the bipartisan push to ban TikTok in the US "doesn't feel right to me." AOC said America needed stronger data and privacy protection laws rather than a TikTok ban. The New York Democrat started her video by saying: "This is not only my first TikTok, but it is a TikTok about TikTok. She pointed out that the US doesn't have "significant data or privacy protection laws," before mentioning the European Union's data privacy law, known as the General Data Protection Regulation.
An FBI spy chief's secret meeting with a Russian contact was detected by UK officials. McGonigal should have realized that the London meeting would be noticed, one source said. During his years in New York, McGonigal oversaw 150 FBI agents tasked with shadowing foreign operatives and turning them into spies for the US. He would have had intimate knowledge of surveillance penetration in world capitals, which makes the London meeting all the more mystifying. McGonigal had investigated Russian operatives earlier in his career, but it is unclear whether he was involved with the FBI's Deripaska recruitment effort.
In August, scientists and adventurers found camera gear abandoned by Brad Washburn, an American explorer, in 1937. By tracing the camera's path, scientists could learn how the glacier has changed over eight decades. "They essentially needed help to figure out how the glacier is moving and what's the best way of finding the cache," Medrzycka told Insider. "It was an amazing feeling, and I felt relief that I didn't fail at finding the cache," Medrzycka said, adding, "It was an epic moment for everyone." The team also retrieved two other cameras, including a DeVry "Lunchbox" model, with film still loaded inside.
NASA's InSight lander has detected Mars quakes that mostly come from one region: Cerberus Fossae. But now, using a seismometer on NASA's InSight lander, scientists have discovered the first evidence of molten lava deep below the Martian surface. A series of Mars quakes clued the scientists in to the potential lava hotspot. The biggest Mars quakes point to an underground chamber of magmaInSight has detected more than 1,300 Mars quakes since landing on the red planet in 2018. To get the global picture of Mars quakes and volcanic activity, NASA would need to send more seismometers to the red planet.
CNN —Matthew Perry is continuing to share candid moments from his long journey to sobriety and the struggles he endured during his run on NBC’s “Friends” while yoyo-ing between addictions to Vicodin and alcohol. In an excerpt from his new book “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry recounts how a visit from costar Jennifer Aniston to his trailer made him realize that his secret behavior when it came to alcohol wasn’t so secret. “‘I know you’re drinking,’ she said,” Perry, now 53, writes in the memoir, in an excerpt published by the Times of London. “You can track the trajectory of my addiction if you gauge my weight from season to season – when I’m carrying weight, it’s alcohol; when I’m skinny, it’s pills. And the main thing was, I was pretty certain that it would help people.”“Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” by Matthew Perry, will be published by Headline on November 1.
