CNN —From cowboy boots to fried chicken-scented charms, foam footwear maker Crocs has a reputation for quirk. This month, Crocs is putting its best paw forward: The quirky-but-comfortable footwear maker is releasing a line of clogs for dogs. Pet Clogs are part of a partnership with pet supply company and subscription service BARK as part of Crocs’ annual “Croctober” campaign, when it releases a fan-inspired product. And sales of the footwear brand soared in 2020, thanks to the rise of casual fashion during the pandemic. “In many instances these will be fun purchases which people will share on social media, helping to amplify the Crocs brand,” he said.

The latest research looked at a part of the brain called the olfactory bulb, which processes information about smell. Connecting the olfactory bulb and the nasal cavity is the olfactory nerve. Some researchers worry the olfactory pathway may also be an entry point for microplastics getting into the brain, beyond the olfactory bulb. Mauad and her team took samples of olfactory bulb tissue from 15 cadavers of people who died between the ages of 33 and 100. The presence of microplastics in the olfactory bulb doesn’t automatically mean there are microplastics elsewhere in the brain, such as regions related to cognition.

Since the Paris Olympics kicked off, a pair of tiny orange Dutch clogs, the unofficial pin of the Netherlands team, has become a coveted currency among the athletes. Nearly an inch long and dangling from a butterfly clutch, the pin exchanged hands between Yara ten Holte, a Dutch handball player, and Ilona Maher, the U.S. women’s rugby star, who gleefully flaunted her prize on TikTok. “One thing about the Olympic Village is, trading pins is serious business,” Ms. Maher said last week in a post that was viewed more than 2.7 million times. “We don’t mess around trading pins, OK?”Trading in pins — those tiny, shiny emblems made by sports delegations, federations, countries and the media outlets covering them — is a longstanding tradition at the Olympics. But the activity was subdued during the pandemic, as restrictions at the Summer Games in Tokyo and the Winter Games in Beijing prevented athletes, fans and pin collectors from getting anywhere near one another.

On a recent morning in Gouda, a small city in the Netherlands, hundreds of wheels of yellow cheese lay out in rows on the cobblestones of the town square, a backdrop to the city’s weekly cheese market, which dates to the Middle Ages. Ad van Kluijve, a farmer dressed in blue work shirt, red bandanna, blue cap and wooden clogs, haggled with a buyer over the price of his latest batch of “jong belegen,” famous for its mild caramel flavor. In the rest of the world, it is one of many cheeses named after the city in which it is traded. The haggling is largely a performance for tourists as the actual price negotiations take place elsewhere. The cheese industry in the region is very real, though, accounting for about 60 percent of the national cheese production, with an export value of $1.7 billion annually, according to ZuivelNL, which represents the Dutch dairy sector.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Monday unveiled a new slate of financing initiatives to support housing development, including a $100 million fund specifically for affordable housing. The past several inflation reports have shown prices slightly cooling off, but shelter costs have remained persistently hot.
