Bitcoin miners have tumbled since last Thursday, following the launch of spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds . The declines are in part due to the pullback in the bitcoin price, which is down roughly 6% in the same period. In a Monday note to investors, Bernstein also pointed to lower investor appetite for mining stocks as a bitcoin proxy now that ETFs have entered the market. "Just like bitcoin, the next two months offer dip buying opportunity in bitcoin miners," Chhugani said. Bitcoin miners were top performers in 2023, outperforming even bitcoin.

Backed by Japan's SoftBank, WeWork aimed to revolutionise the office market by taking long leases on large properties and renting the space to multiple smaller businesses on more flexible, shorter arrangements. Some leveraged property investors could struggle to earn enough rental income to service rising debt costs, they said. The number and volume of real estate loans due for refinancing in 2024 is unclear because many deals are struck privately between borrower and lender, Ed Daubeney, co-head, debt and structured finance, EMEA, at real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle, told Reuters. U.S. industrial and office real estate investment trusts (REITs) were seen 35.8% more likely to default, versus expectations a year ago. India's growth prospects have seen many investors and big-name banks turn bullish on the country, but portfolio manager Kamil Dimmich says he's steering clear. Dimmich, who manages the $1.5 billion Pacific North of South Emerging Market All Cap Equity fund, said he is "always looking for great companies with strong cashflows that are not correctly reflected in the market." 'Great value market' One country he is very bullish on is South Korea, which he calls a "great value market." The portfolio manager acknowledged that his love of the South Korean market is an interesting one. And so that has always led the Korean market to be quite cheap because people didn't have much faith," he said.

Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC has a sizeable lead in the chip industry which its competitors will struggle to catch up with, according to Kamil Dimmich, a portfolio manager at North of South Capital. Is Nvidia cheap? "Some of my colleagues think Nvidia is cheap and there's certain scenarios you could put together where Nvidia is cheap. The portfolio manager does not have holdings in Tencent , even as several investors consider it as a stock to watch out for. "If people remain negative on China [and start] selling China, like there's no tomorrow, then maybe [Chinese] stocks will go sideways.

Specialist asset managers minted CLOs worth more than half a trillion dollars in 2021, a year of heavy post-pandemic monetary stimulus. S&P Global estimates that more than one in 25 U.S. businesses and almost one in 25 European companies will default by March 2024. That has squeezed equity returns, and without equity investors, CLOs cannot be put together. S&P calculates that while CLO equity investors were able to get a 15% annual return before 2022, deals priced now would offer about 7%. "The (CLO) equity doesn't make enough money to justify buying it."

So far in 2023, this index of what are the leading lights of the U.S. economy is up 36% - six times the year-to-date gains of the S&P 500 index (.SPX). Put another way, this year's rise of these 10 mega tech stocks accounts for pretty much all of the S&P 500 gains. "But given how often the S&P 500 has been used as Exhibit A for overall 'resilience', it's important to acknowledge just how idiosyncratic this macro gauge has been." Are tech stocks overpriced? There are certainly plenty of concerns that these mega stocks may be overbought and just too expensive - even though that concern will hardly be a new worry for these stocks.
REUTERS/Nathan Frandino//File PhotoNEW YORK/HOUSTON, March 10 (Reuters) - Corporations and investors have been pouring money into renewable energy projects, seeing an opportunity to grasp the Holy Grail of socially conscious investing: do good while doing well. But sharply higher interest rates have further stressed a model strained by soaring prices for steel and silicon, vital for wind turbines and solar panels. Higher costs have buyers and sellers of renewable power projects recalculating potential returns, hampering fundraising and mergers and acquisitions (M&A). A decade of low interest rates meant borrowers could raise cheap debt to build projects and juice returns. Financial investors traditionally took stakes in operating renewables projects to avoid risks of construction delays and ensure stable returns.

Long-term investors see regulation as a positive development ultimately, but it can put pressure on prices in the near term, Kruger said. Holding banners reading "Climate Criminals Enter Here" and "No New Oil," activists from climate action group Fossil Free London gathered outside the luxury hotel to protest BP's continued fossil fuel investment. "An energy system that works is one that provides energy that is secure and affordable as well as lower carbon — what's known as the energy trilemma," Looney said. "To solve it, action is clearly needed to accelerate the energy transition and at the same time, that transition has got to be orderly. We need to invest in the energy transition and — not or — we need to invest in today's energy system, which is predominantly an oil and gas system." The extraordinary scale of the oil and gas industry's earnings has renewed criticism and sparked calls for higher taxes.
The group said estimated it would spend around $1 billion a year to bring the Woodsmith project in north-east England to production by 2027. The mine has the world's largest known deposit of polyhalite, a multi-nutrient fertiliser. It now expects first production from 2027, reaching around 5 million tonnes per annum by 2030, from a previous estimate of 2024 with output of 10 million tonnes a year in the initial phase. "And then depending on how we shape and develop the markets from there, we will expand it from the 5 million tonnes to the 13 million tonnes," Chief Executive Duncan Wanblad told reporters. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) also said it was looking into the market activity immediately before and after Hindenburg published its report on Jan. 24, the filing said. Led by billionaire Gautam Adani, Adani Group's seven listed companies have together lost about $120 billion in market value since Hindenburg's critical report, which included allegations of improper use of offshore tax havens and stock manipulation, Adani Group has denied the allegations. Earlier on Monday, India's Adani Group sought to reassure investors, saying its business plans were fully-funded, its cashflows strong and it remained confident of delivering attractive returns to shareholders. SEBI has been examining trade patterns and any potential irregularities in the $2.5 billion share sale of flagship company Adani Enterprises (ADEL.NS) that the Adani group was forced to cancel due to the plunge in its shares, Reuters has previously reported citing sources. SEBI confirmed the existence of the investigation for the first time in its Supreme Court filing.
Adani Group said last week it was considering independent evaluation of issues relating to legal compliance, related party transactions and internal controls following the Hindenburg report. Grant Thornton has been hired to conduct independent audits of some Adani Group companies, said the sources, declining to be named as the appointment is confidential. One of the sources added that Grant Thornton would look at whether related-party transactions at the Adani Group complied with corporate governance standards. Grant Thornton and Adani Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In its rebuttal, Adani had said "all related party transactions are at arm's length, properly disclosed and reviewed/audited by statutory independent auditors."

Even so, KKR and Vodafone look insulated from the worst sort of Teutonic deal pain. Still, KKR – which has joined forces with Global Infrastructure Partners and will co-control Vantage with Vodafone – has some protections. The offer was recommended by Vantage Towers' management and supervisory board. Vantage Towers’ Chief Executive Vivek Badrinath is set to depart due to personal reasons.
While the Adani Group has condemned the report as “baseless” and “malicious,” investor questions about its claims linger, and the fallout is growing. Gautam Adani is a 60-year-old tycoon who founded the Adani Group more than 30 years ago. The firm said it had taken a short position in Adani Group companies, meaning it would benefit from a drop in their value. Stocks of most Adani Group companies slumped again on Friday. Indian banks that hold Adani Group assets could also be affected if the value of those holdings continues to drop.
The Jan. 24 report has triggered an $86 billion erosion in market capitalisation of seven listed Adani Group companies. "To go through this exercise of a share sale and to call it off raises more questions." After the share sale was pulled, yields of dollar-denominated bonds issued by Adani companies rose on Wednesday. Adani Group was working with its bankers to refund the proceeds received by in the secondary share sale of Adani Enterprises. The share sale had succeeded on Tuesday even when the Adani Enterprises stock price in Mumbai markets traded below the offer price of the share sale.

"We will continue to focus on long term value creation and growth will be managed by internal accruals.
The share sale — the largest offering by a company already listed on India’s stock market — had closed successfully just 24 hours earlier. But a brutal day of trading Wednesday wiped billions more off the value of his companies, including Adani Enterprises. The conglomerate has seen its value plunge by about $90 billion since the Hindenburg report was published. “Today the market has been unprecedented, and our stock price has fluctuated over the course of the day,” Adani said in a statement. Then the Hindenburg report landed.

Sam Bankman-Fried claims he paid little attention to his company expenses, per Bloomberg. The FTX co-founder told Bloomberg he didn't realize he was spending more than he was taking in. When demonstrating the company's biggest cashflows to the Bloomberg journalist, Bankman-Fried listed $250 million in expenses for real estate and $1 billion for "fuckups." According to court documents filed by FTX's newly appointed CEO John J. Ray III, the company didn't have a formal accounting department. Company expenses, which reportedly included a $200 daily allowance for food delivery, were approved by emojis on online chats, according to a bankruptcy filing.
"I think crypto is dead, and I think that investing in Coinbase is just a waste of time," Mizuho analyst Dan Dolev said on Friday. The Wall Street analyst doesn't expect Coinbase to benefit from the collapse of rival crypto exchange FTX. "I think crypto is dead, and I think that investing in Coinbase is just a waste of time," Dolev said. Instead, the sole driver of prices, and therefore value, in crypto tokens is supply and demand, and demand is floundering. "What we're talking about here is these crypto tokens.
"Consumers are going to have their purse strings pulled by utility bills, higher mortgage costs, higher petrol prices, and there's going to be margin squeeze." He said wage pressure and higher commodity prices were particularly challenging and could eat into companies' margins. Luxury Luxury stocks are another favorite for Armstrong. Moreover, the "massive" profit margins of luxury companies are also insulated from increases in input prices, he added. Within the space, Armstrong's fund owns French luxury goods companies LVMH and Hermes , given their "defendable margins" and the ability to be price setters.
