CNN —The Nigeria men’s soccer team is back home after being stuck at a remote Libyan airport for over 15 hours, according to Nigeria’s football governing body and team captain William Troost-Ekong. In an Instagram post, the NFF said that the squad was stranded overnight at Al Abraq airport outside of Al Bayda, Libya. “We understand the Al Abraq International Airport is only used for hajj operations. They’ve locked the airport gates and left us without phone connection, food or drink. But never on purpose!”Later on Monday, Troost-Ekong said the team had traveled back to Nigeria.

The beverage has had a starring role in the 2024 campaign because, it turns out, both vice-presidential candidates are fans of it. That suggests some artificially sweetened version of horseshoe theory, with left and right arriving at a similar destination, a carbonated détente. It’s also zero calories per serving, and neither man seems to be a metabolic marvel liberated from any worry about weight. President Theodore Roosevelt, so appreciative of nature, plucked mint from the White House garden for juleps. President Donald Trump, so given to excess, drank as many as 12 Diet Cokes a day.

Abortion funds provide information and help offset costsThe demand for funds like CAF has risen significantly since June 2022, Jeyifo said. It also received funding from the city of Chicago and is one of the few abortion funds to receive local government funding. AdvertisementSo far this year, Hidalgo-Cuellar said 84% of Cobalt's clients requiring travel support have come from Texas. She said it's difficult to keep the work of abortion funds in the public eye — and she worries about donations drying up. Imminent rulings from the Florida Supreme Court will also decide the fate of the state's abortion bans, and whether voters will have a say in abortion laws this November.

BOGOTA (Reuters) - The board of directors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on Wednesday approved a $415 million credit line, with an initial disbursement of $50 million, to finance Bogota's second metro line, the Colombian capital's mayor said. The underground Line 2 will connect to the city's west, said Mayor Claudia Lopez, who finishes her term this year after overseeing initial construction on Bogota's long-awaited first metro line. At a price tag of 34.9 trillion Colombian pesos ($8.5 billion), Line 2 is expected to benefit nearly 2.5 million inhabitants and stretch 15.5 kilometers (9.63 miles) connecting 11 stations. Line 1, currently being constructed by Chinese companies Harbor Engineering Company and Xi'an Metro Co., extends 23.9 kilometers overground - despite opposition by President Gustavo Petro, who wanted part of the line to be constructed underground. The metro is considered critical to reducing the chaotic traffic in the capital of more than eight million residents and will complement the existing TransMilenio bus system.

Morocco won by default after Algeria, Zambia and a joint bid from Benin and Nigeria all withdrew before the vote of the Confederation of African Football's executive committee in Cairo on Wednesday. The north African country was a runaway favourite and will see the decision as a boost to their hopes of co-hosting the 2030 World Cup with Portugal and Spain. It is only the second time that Morocco will host Africa's most popular sporting event, almost four decades after the previous time in 1988. The joint East African bid for 2027 returns the finals to the region for the first time since 1976. However, Saturday's match between Morocco and Liberia in Agadir, some 260km away from the quake epicentre, has been postponed. The Congo and Gambia squads spent the night sleeping beside their respective hotel pools after the magnitude 7.2 quake that struck in Morocco's High Atlas mountains and damaged buildings in nearby Marrakech. The coaches of both teams said their players had been traumatised by the event but had been told they must go ahead with their match. Sunday’s Group G decider between Gambia and Congo is being played in Marrakech because Gambia do not have a suitable stadium for hosting international matches. “We have been told our match on Sunday must go ahead.

BUENOS AIRES, July 31 (Reuters) - Argentina's Economy Minister Sergio Massa said on Monday the country will not use "a single dollar" of its own reserves to make a $2.7 billion repayment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due this week. Argentina, which has been grappling with a severe economic crisis with sky-high inflation and falling central bank reserves, needed to avoid a default with the Fund, with maturities of $2.6 billion due on Monday and almost $800 million due on Tuesday. "I want to bring you peace of mind - Argentina is not going to use a single dollar of its reserves to pay today's maturity," Massa said in a televised speech. CNN —Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva proposed creating a common currency in the region during a meeting with South American heads of state in Brasilia on Tuesday. Talk of creating a common currency there has periodically cropped up since its founding in 1991. Lula also argued that regional development banks like the Andean Development Corporation (CAF), the Bank of the South and Brazil’s development bank BNDES should do more to finance social and economic development in the region. It’s not the first time that regional leaders have floated the idea of creating a common currency in South America. “If we compare the Eurozone, discussions over the common currency started back in the 1950s.
April 30 (Reuters) - Casablanca authorities have opened an investigation after a fan died outside the gates of the Stade Mohammed V before Raja's match against Al-Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals on Saturday. Another CAF Champions League quarter-final between Esperance and Algeria's JS Kabylie in Tunis on Saturday was marred by crowd trouble, which caused a 40-minute delay to the second half. Esperance fans clashed with Tunisian security forces and lit fireworks on the terraces at halftime of the tie at Rades Stadium. They will face Al-Ahly over two legs for a place in the final after the Cairo club held Raja to a 0-0 draw in Casablanca. Raja's city rivals Wydad, the reigning champions, will face South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the other semi-final next month.
CAPE TOWN, April 27 (Reuters) - Algeria head a list of four bids to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations, which the Confederation of African Football announced on Thursday, but Morocco are a surprise omission suggesting a compromise over the 2025 edition has been struck. A statement said CAF had received bids from Algeria, Botswana, Egypt and a joint candidacy from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for the 2027 tournament after the expiry of the deadline for declarations of interest. CAF have repeatedly delayed deciding who will replace Guinea as the 2025 hosts. Algeria and Morocco are the top two contenders for 2025 but choosing between the two neighbours has become a political dilemma for CAF, sources have told Reuters. The two North African neighbours have an adversarial relationship, with diplomatic ties suspended, and winning the rights to host the 2025 Cup of Nations would be a matter of national pride and a public relations triumph.
The World Bank and CAF-Development Bank of Latin America could not be immediately reached for comment. The operation, which would take place in the coming weeks, would guarantee 60% of the issuance, and the notes would have a maximum maturity of five years, said the ministry source, who asked not to be identified. The intention is to issue two separate bonds, each with its own backing, for up to $600 million each, the source said. "What (the guarantee) allows is for the interest rate to be set on the qualification of the banks" and not Argentina's, said the source. The South American economy is also seeking $500 million of fresh financing from the World Bank, the source added, additional to the $2.5 billion the multilateral lender already has already committed for 2023.

New York CNN —Roughly 2 million Cosori air fryers have been recalled because they pose a possible fire risk. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said that consumers “should immediately stop” using the recalled air fryers and contact Cosori for a free replacement. The company set up a special website for customers to trade in their air fryers for a new one. The air fryers, which range in price from $70 to $130, were sold between June 2018 through December 2022 at a number of retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot and Target. The fryers are size 3.7 and 5.8 quarts and were sold in black, gray, white, blue or red colors.
A California company is recalling 2 million Cosori air fryers, US product safety officials announced Thursday. The recalled air fryers were reported as "catching fire, burning, melting." "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and contact Cosori to receive their choice of a free replacement air fryer or another Cosori product," the commission said. The agency said a "wire connection in the air fryers can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards." About 2 million of the air fryers have been sold in the US, while about 250,000 were sold in Canada and 21,000 in Mexico.
OTTAWA, Feb 22 (Reuters) - Canada is aware of recent air and maritime surveillance attempts by China and has thwarted such efforts since last year, the Canadian defense ministry said on Wednesday, after a newspaper reported Chinese floating devices were found in the Arctic in autumn. "The CAF are fully aware of recent efforts by China to conduct surveillance operations in Canadian airspace and maritime approaches," the spokesperson said, adding the forces had stopped attempts to surveil Canadian territory since 2022. Spanish region spent $276 million on trains before they realized they were too big to fit in the tunnels. The president of Cantabria, a region of northern Spain, called the error an "unspeakable botch." Two senior officials in the Spanish transport industry were fired earlier this week after local news outlet El Comercio reported last month that the government had spent €258 million (about $276 million) on unusable trains. Renfe — the country's national train operator — ordered the trains in 2020, granting the manufacturing contract to the transport manufacturing company CAF. This is not the first time there have been sizable train troubles in Europe: in 2014, a French rail company spent billions of euros on trains that were "too wide" for the tracks.
JPMorgan is pumping the brakes on shares of CarMax . Analyst Rajat Gupta downgraded the used vehicle stock to underweight from neutral, saying that the risk-reward looks skewed to the downside as the potential for lower earnings revisions linger. He also said recovery hopes look "premature" at the moment. According to Gupta, Wall Street is also failing to accurately account for downside risks to overall earnings. Gupta maintained the Wall Street firm's $60 price target on CarMax, which represents 11% downside from Tuesday's close.
