Jeff Kowalsky | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesDETROIT — General Motors is proving it's a standout among automakers this year as it continues to consistently outperform Wall Street's earnings expectations and its competitors. For the most part, GM stock has traded in lockstep with Ford due to their histories and the cyclical nature of the automotive industry. Ford stock is off 10% as of Friday's close. Others, including Ferrari , which has been among Wall Street's top auto performers, are also trailing GM. Shares of GM under Barra, who started leading the automaker in January 2014, have been lackluster for investors for most of her tenure.

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler has sought to dramatically increase regulation of corporate America, vastly increasing disclosure requirements in particular. In response, corporate America has brought an avalanche of lawsuits against Gensler and the SEC. With a new regime now coming into the SEC following Donald Trump's victory in the presidential race, how will they respond to the lawsuits? Are there are any favorites for SEC chairman? Dan Gallagher, now serving as Robinhood's chief legal officer and formerly a Republican SEC commissioner, has been floated as a possible replacement.

They have also considered the impact of potential tariffs proposed by former President Donald Trump. Some on Wall Street view a Harris win as a potential obstacle for antitrust and megacap technology stocks. "Regulatory scrutiny will probably help a lot of M & A activity under Trump — Harris, it'll be a little more of the status quo," said Jay Woods, chief global strategist at Freedom Capital Markets. This could "slow the pace of the AI revolution," he said in a recent post to X that also called a Harris win "more bullish" for the industry. Even Warren Buffett thinks his stock is too expensive

CNN —Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has over $325 billion in cash on hand. Berkshire Hathaway was a net seller of stocks across its portfolio that quarter and grew its cash-on-hand to record amounts. Berkshire Hathaway’s actions signal to investors that its stock might be overvalued, Cathy Seifert, an analyst at CFRA Research, told CNN. Buffett will repurchase shares when he thinks the price is “below Berkshire’s intrinsic value, conservatively determined,” according to Berkshire Hathaway’s regulatory filings. “All this suggests that Buffett has serious concerns about the economic backdrop and the current state of the stock market,” Mould said in a note.

While the hardware sales are certainly profitable, they pale in comparison to the profitability of Apple's Services. It's impossible to do consistently, and that's why Jim Cramer always says "own, don't trade" Apple stock. During the reported quarter, Apple returned over $29 billion to shareholders, including $3.8 billion in dividends and equivalents and another $25 billion via the repurchase of 112 million shares. Though Services sales missed the mark, gross income managed to outpace expectations thanks to significant year-over-year margin expansion. The growing installed base of active devices is of course translating into strong engagement with Apple's services.

The U.S. presidential election is less than one week away, and investor positioning has gotten very bullish. "Animal spirits have been unleashed, as investors haven't wasted time positioning themselves up for a typical post-election/year-end rally," Cau said in a note. He also pointed out that these inflows come as expectations of former President Donald Trump winning next week have increased. Indeed, shares of Trump Media — which have been a market proxy for Trump's 2024 election chances — have soared a whopping 220.5% in the past month alone.
