CNN —Researchers in Denmark have published a case report revealing an unexpected consequence of one of breakdancing’s most iconic moves: the headspin. Breakdancing, or breaking as it’s called by its athletes, made its debut as an official sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics. These can include carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve problems, as well as a condition known in the breaking community as headspin hole, an overuse injury that can affect the scalp. “This repetitive strain on the skull, scalp and skin likely triggers inflammation, and over time, minor bleeding may lead to thickened skin and scar tissue, forming the characteristic bulge.” Søndergaard, a co-author of the case report, treated the patient. The patient’s head before and after surgery to remove a noncancerous tumor caused by years of breakdancing.

Earlier this week, the U.S. women's rugby sevens team earned their first Olympic medal in history, and it marks a positive turn for the women's sport that's been overlooked for decades. I mean, there's no other way to put it," says Phaidra Knight, a former U.S. women's rugby sevens team player and World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee. "It will have incredible and substantial implications for the future of not only women's rugby, but rugby in America." When Knight became a player on the U.S. National Rugby union team, which is different from the sevens team, in 1999, the program didn't receive funding, she says. Many professional rugby players join the U.S. National union teams prior to joining a sevens team; four national teams are under USA Rugby.

I had kind of resigned myself to [thinking] this might be my life forever because of the relative financial stability." "I thought this was probably the best opportunity I'd get, timing-wise, to make this kind of a jump," she said. The decision to leave Estée Lauder and her salary wasn't easy. She called the prospect of stepping away from her job and into financial uncertainty "extremely challenging and very, very scary."

The 30-year-old, who is also known as ‘Ex,’ finished 52nd at the World DanceSport Federation Olympic qualification event in Hong Kong in December, and 130th globally, putting paid to his chances of performing on the biggest stage of all this summer. If I were to push myself like I did in previous years, I might not even be able to. After being added to the Paris programme in 2020, breaking was dropped for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. After representing Hong Kong in competitions from Brazil to Japan, Cheung said breaking needed as much exposure as possible to flourish. It’s important for promoting the culture,” said Cheung, who sported tattooed arms and silver tunnel earrings.

Five sports were finally added to the 2028 Los Angeles Games by the International Olympic Committee on Monday with baseball-softball, lacrosse and squash also confirmed for the program. The two-week Asian Games offer a glimpse at a changing Mongolia, a vast nation sandwiched between China and Russia with only 3.3 million people. And there's also a bronze medal in men’s 3x3 basketball, where Mongolia edged South Korea 21-20. Mongolia has just over 400 athletes at the Asian Games, less than half the size of large delegations from China, Japan or South Korea. She called herself “a novice” breakdancer but has practiced with at least one member of the Mongolian team, Gan-Ulzii Ganbalt. “My generation is trying to change the way Mongolia is seen," she said.

[1/5] British photographer Normski who made his name photographing the hip hop scene in the 1980s and 1990s speaks during an interview with Reuters, in London, Britain August 21, 2023. REUTERS/Gerry Mey Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 23 (Reuters) - British photographer Normski says he took pictures of some of the greatest exponents of hip hop music, which this month celebrated its 50th anniversary, at least in part because he couldn't breakdance. Born in 1966 in northwest London into a Jamaican family, Normski is seven years older than hip hop, which dates from a party in New York's Bronx on Aug. 11, 1973. "To me, hip hop is a voice for those who never had a voice. He described himself as "a little innocent Black guy with a camera" whose approach was to be as spontaneous as hip hop music often is.

Adidas has to manage Yeezy drops very carefully, Gulden said, adding that the company's guidance was conservative. Adidas' 2023 outlook does not include the second Yeezy release, which is being sold through retailers as well as Adidas' own channels. JD Sports (JD.L) said it had started selling Yeezy shoes from the second drop on Wednesday. Citi analysts expect further Yeezy drops to generate 1.5 billion euros ($1.64 billion) in revenues and 700 million euros in earnings after Adidas' planned charity donations. Adidas donated 10 million euros in the second quarter and set aside 100 million euros for further donations to charities including the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism and the Anti-Defamation League.

Sales of surplus Yeezy shoes generated around 400 million euros ($437 million) in the second quarter, helping Adidas reduce its predicted loss for the year to 450 million euros, down from the 700 million euro loss previously expected. JD Sports (JD.L) said it had started selling Yeezy products from Adidas' second release of Yeezy shoes on Wednesday. Adidas said its 2023 outlook does not include the second Yeezy release. Citi analysts expect further Yeezy drops to generate 1.5 billion euros in revenues and 700 million euros in earnings after Adidas' planned charity donations. North America was the laggard, with sales dropping 16.4% in currency-neutral terms, which Adidas put down to high inventory levels there.

The moves - with names like top rock and down rock - are part of a training programme by Gaza coach Ahmed Al-Ghraiz, who says he uses dance as therapy to help children kick away fears and release tension. "Some children come to me and say they are tired, they look withered, which means they neither rest enough nor have a deep sleep. Dance is used around the world as a therapeutic practice alongside traditional counselling and other rehabilitation efforts aiming to ease anxiety, depression, anger and post-traumatic stress. In 2022, UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund said nearly 500,000 children in Gaza needed psychological care. The acrobatic dance style will be included for the first time as a sport in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Breakdance-ul devine sport olimpic.
