But hidden within the typical red carpet fanfare at the Governors Ball in Los Angeles on Sunday night was a group of sartorial renegades, each one taking aim at the traditional button-down shirt. Leading the charge was actor Barry Keoghan, dressed in a full Dolce & Gabbana suit featuring a black cropped satin jacket. Matt Baron/BEI/ShutterstockDrew Starkey paired his red suit with a stand collar and ornate black clasp. His Shakespearean-style blouse might look more at home at a Renaissance fair than a glitzy red carpet, but its off-white shade and tie-front detail gave the Gucci tuxedo a new lease of life. Jordan Strauss/Invision/APWith social media positioning fashion as mainstream entertainment, red carpet dressing has never felt so important to an actor’s digital profile.

In the end, on Wednesday, both Harris and Fox News probably got what they wanted. But before the interview, Harris spokesman Ian Sams explained her thinking. If only a few thousand Fox viewers or traditional conservatives swapped sides, it could push some swing states in the vice president’s direction. Still, the risk for Harris is that her display in her first formal Fox interview could alienate some of those voters. It’s taken her several months to arrive at the assurance that she’d strike a strong contrast with Biden’s administration, which she unveiled in the Fox interview.

During his travels, the professional cyclist has braved brutal headwinds, extreme temperatures, dangerous traffic and even dusted himself off after a run-in with a kangaroo. CNN —More than a month after the Olympic Games got underway in the pouring rain, it seemed fitting that the Paralympics came to a close in similar fashion at a wet closing ceremony in Paris. “Dear athletes,” Paris 2024 organizing chief Tony Estanguet said in his speech at the ceremony, “this has been incredible, undeniable, unforgettable, and it’s all thanks to you. “With every wow, every cry, every heart you sent racing, you changed how people see sport and how they see disability.”Delegations parade through the Stade de France during the closing ceremony. It was a familiar scene Friday for Team USA in the men's 4x100-meter relay, as their formidable speed was halted once again by a botched baton pass. The U.S. men's team entered the relay final as gold medal favorites, in theory, as the reigning world champions and fastest qualifiers. Christian Coleman of the United States struggles to hand the baton to teammate Kenneth Bednarek in the men's 4x100-meter relay final on Friday. Women's 100-meter silver medalist Sha'Carri Richardson anchored the U.S. effort, earning her first Olympic gold. Voices across the globe expressed concern Sunday over the growing number of arrests in Venezuela following last weekend’s disputed elections. The AP processed almost 24,000 images of tally sheets, representing the results from 79% of voting machines. According to the calculations, the González received 6.89 million votes, nearly half a million more than the government says Maduro won. The tabulations also show Maduro received 3.13 million votes from the tally sheets released. On Thursday, the governments of the three countries issued a joint statement calling on Venezuela’s electoral authorities “to move forward expeditiously and publicly release” detailed voting data.

It was a sweltering day in Palm Springs, and a few intrepid tourists braved the unforgiving sun to snap selfies at the stilettoed feet of a colossal Marilyn Monroe, her white dress seeming to billow up in the hot dry wind. Some of them had heard she was not likely to be standing there much longer. “That’s why we came today — to take pictures,” said Lauri Hatcher, who used to live in Palm Springs and returns each year. “Because it makes me super sad.”The statue — a 26-foot tall, 17-ton Monroe in her famous subway grate pose from the 1955 movie “The Seven Year Itch” — had bitterly divided the desert city. Some objected that it blocked views of the Palm Springs Art Museum and confronted visitors leaving the museum with Monroe’s exposed underwear.

Early on Sept. 30, 1893, the Margaret A. Muir schooner, carrying cargo of bulk salt, cleared the narrow Straits of Mackinac on its way down Lake Michigan toward Chicago’s port. As the crew rounded Michigan and steered south, the ship encountered relentless 50-mile-an-hour winds. Captain David Clow and his crew of six barely made it out alive, steering a lifeboat through high waves to the Wisconsin shore. In his grief, Captain Clow, who was 71 years old and had survived at least three earlier shipwrecks, swore off sailing. The Muir joined thousands of other ships claimed by the stormy waters of the Great Lakes in the 19th century.

For those outside the Westminster bubble, the announcement felt less like a starting pistol than a final gasp. But unlike Sunak, who with his wife Akshata Murty is worth an estimated £651 million ($828 million), most of us can’t afford it. The British economy never fully recovered from the 2008 recession and, consciously or not, most people still feel the sting every day. As Sam Knight recently noted in the New Yorker, the average British worker is estimated to be £14,000 ($17,800) worse off per year now than they would be if earnings had risen at pre-crisis rates. Her disastrous mini-budget wiped £30 billion off the UK economy that autumn, according to independent think tank Resolution Foundation, and sent interest rates rocketing.

In his courageous and too short life, Navalny became a symbol of hope for the younger generations of his compatriots. Rather than attack Navalny as a political rival, the authorities peddled a concocted image of Navalny as a petty swindler. Navalny’s death will leave a gaping hole at the center of Russia’s opposition movement, already fragmented and scattered across the globe.
