Everyone wants Joe Biden gone. What if?’ We’re doing things the Democratic way. I went there growing up and have Proustian recollections of crispy French fries with vinegar sold on the Boardwalk. It makes me sad that Biden doesn’t see what’s inescapable: If he doesn’t walk away gracefully right now, he will likely go down as a pariah and ruin his legacy. The race for the Oval today is between two delusional, selfish, stubborn old guys, and that’s a depressing state of affairs.

Washington CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris has spent much of the year traveling around the country, tackling the Republican party and its leader, former President Donald Trump. As panic and speculation spread across the Democratic Party following the June 27 debate, the vice president and her aides continued to keep an eye on who might be selected to serve as Trump’s vice president. That ability is likely to be one of several key factors that will shape Harris’ debate preparations. The Trump campaign has declined to commit to a date, as they point to the chaos unfolding in the other political party. “We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention.

By Jonathan Allen(Reuters) - Alabama plans to carry out the first known judicial execution of a prisoner using asphyxiation with nitrogen gas on Thursday evening, a closely watched new method the state hopes to advance as a viable, simpler alternative to lethal injections. Kenneth Smith, convicted of a 1988 murder-for-hire, is a rare prisoner who has already survived one execution attempt. In November 2022, Alabama officials aborted his execution by lethal injection after struggling for hours to insert an intravenous line's needle in his body. A canister of pure nitrogen will be attached to the mask, intended to deprive him of inhaling any oxygen. Jeff Hood, spiritual adviser to Smith, who will be at Smith's side, had to sign a form acknowledging the risk that the execution method poses to others.

Ivanka Trump has been subpoenaed to testify in her dad's ongoing civil fraud trial in New York. AdvertisementAdvertisementIvanka Trump is fighting hard against being forced to testify against her father and brothers in the ongoing Trump civil fraud trial in New York. The objection, in court papers filed late Thursday, calls the New York Attorney General's Office subpoena overly broad. It also accuses the AG's office of botching how it served Ivanka Trump with her subpoena, alleging a technical foul her lawyer says should invalidate her obligation to testify. James alleges that Trump and his company used fraudulently exaggerated net-worth statements in winning favorable interest rates and other benefits from lenders, particularly Deutsche Bank, for which Ivanka Trump was her father's primary point-woman.

Meanwhile, yet another plaintiffs' firm, Robbins, is deep into a similar derivative suit against Wells Fargo board members in San Francisco Superior Court. But it’s worth noting that in 2022, Wells Fargo won the dismissal of a previous shareholder derivative suit accusing the board of regulatory compliance failures. Kessler said its complaint, which includes "detailed" and "substantial" references to Wells Fargo internal documents, was more likely to withstand a dismissal motion from the bank. Scott + Scott told Tigar that it had the most up-to-date documents from Wells Fargo because it brought a Section 220 demand after the $3.7 billion CFPB agreement. The regulator ordered the bank to refund customers $80.4 million, and to pay a $120 million total fine. Russia has moved to strengthen its national guard after the Wagner rebellion. Wagner mercenaries launched a mutiny against Russian military leaders in June. The Rosgvardiya answers directly to Putin, and was created in 2016 to combat internal security threats. The planned reassignment, the report said, came after Putin met with police and security chiefs in the wake of the armed uprising by the Wagner mercenary group on June 23. "The alleged restructuring of Russia's internal security forces suggests that the Kremlin is working to build an effective anti-rebellion force following Wagner's armed rebellion," the ISW said.

The Kremlin is searching for traitors in the Russian military, a report said. It comes after the Wagner mercenary group launched a mutiny aimed at toppling military chiefs. The Kremlin believes the rebellion may've had broader military backing. According to Washington DC-based think tank The Institute for the Study of War (ISW), a well-sourced Russian military blogger claimed that "large-scale purges" had been launched of Russian military commanders and that the Russian Ministry of Defence is currently undergoing a "crash test" for loyalty. Prigozhin claimed to have extensive backing for his mutiny among Russian military members, but wider backing for the rebellion did not materialize on Saturday.

SAN FRANCISCO, June 16 (Reuters) - Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk expects his brain-chip startup Neuralink to start its first human trial this year, he said on Friday in France. Speaking at the VivaTech event in Paris, co-founder Musk said Neuralink plans to implant a tetraplegic or paraplegic patient during a webcast monitored by Reuters. The FDA acknowledged in an earlier statement to Reuters that the agency cleared Neuralink to use its brain implant and surgical robot for trials but declined to provide more details. On at least four occasions since 2019, Musk predicted that Neuralink would soon start human trials. Neuralink employees who sat on the company's animal board, which has come under federal scrutiny for potential financial conflicts, stood to benefit from the implant's quick development.
