Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher was not amused after “Saturday Night Live” used his infamous feud with his brother and bandmate Noel Gallagher as inspiration for a sketch. !”The Gallagher brothers were known for their intense and very public disagreements throughout Oasis’ heyday in the 1990s, continuing until 2009, when Noel, main songwriter and lead guitarist, decided he could no longer work with frontman Liam. Given the infamy of their feuding, Oasis didn’t seem likely to reunite for many years. But in August, the Gallagher brothers announced a 2025 tour, 19 years after the band went on hiatus. The tour will mark the 30th anniversary of the band’s second album, “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, which includes the hit single “Wonderwall.”

Like other Republicans in the House Freedom Caucus, Representative Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, the group’s former leader, carries a pungently far-right portfolio. He has been an unswerving loyalist of former President Donald J. Trump. He has voted against aid to Ukraine and against keeping the government open. Such stances are not especially controversial to Republican primary voters. But among archconservative House members, only Mr. Perry must sell those same views to voters in a politically competitive district this November.

The issue of China, which views Taiwan as its territory, looms over the Jan. 13 parliamentary and presidential elections. China has stepped up military and political pressure, including high-profile war games, to press the island to accept its sovereignty claim, which Taiwan rejects. But both parties failed to reach agreement on how to interpret opinion polls and thus decide who will stand for what position by an originally scheduled deadline of Saturday. China detests frontrunner Lai, regarding him as a separatist, and has rebuffed repeated calls from him for talks. Hou especially has vowed to renew dialogue with Beijing, and says Lai is a dangerous supporter of Taiwan independence.

The Supreme Court of South Korea ruled on Thursday that a Buddhist statue currently in government custody must be returned to a Japanese temple, ending a decade-old dispute between temples in both countries. South Korean thieves stole the 20-inch gilded bronze statue in 2012 from a Buddhist temple on Tsushima, a Japanese island halfway between the two countries. The thieves were caught in South Korea while trying to sell the statue, which has been designated an important cultural asset in Japan. But Buseoksa, a Buddhist temple in western Korea, claimed the artifact, saying it was made there in the 14th century. The Japanese temple, Kannonji, and Tokyo were not part of the lawsuit but have demanded the statue’s return.

Ten-year U.S. Treasury yield hits 5%

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - The yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose above 5.0% on Monday, hitting the July 2007 milestone that it briefly attempted to scale last week. The run-up in yields on the 10-year Treasury bond, seen as a safe-haven in times of economic uncertainty and a benchmark for borrowing costs around the world, has been driven by investors pricing in stronger U.S. growth as well as fiscal slippage. The 10-year yield touched 5.004% on Monday, up around 8 basis points (bps) on the day. Treasury borrowing costs have climbed, and a divided Congress has bickered over next year's spending bills while using stopgap measures to avert a shutdown of government operations. The yield on the two-year U.S. Treasury was last up 4 bps at 5.125%.

In the post-debate polling, Mr. Trump gained more support than any of the candidates who did appear on the stage. Since then, as his legal cases play out in the courts, Mr. Trump has grown more extreme, and violent, in his rhetoric. It remains to be seen whether the second debate will persuade top donors still on the sidelines to consolidate behind an alternative to Mr. Trump. Rather than attending the debate, Mr. Trump will appear with union workers in Detroit. A bad night, or just an invisible night, for Mr. Scott would dim hopes of a resurgence.

For nine weeks in 1974, off the shore of Martha’s Vineyard, the shooting of “Jaws” was repeatedly delayed by the whims of its temperamental stars. Bruce was the name given to the three mechanical predators built to simulate the great white shark at the heart of the story. Occasionally they wondered if it might not have been better to train an actual great white for the role. After seeing “The Shark Is Broken,” a play about that disastrous shoot, you may wonder the opposite: whether it might not have been better to cast the movie with mechanical humans. All of that is faithfully rendered in “The Shark Is Broken,” which opened on Thursday at the Golden Theater, in a production directed by Guy Masterson.

Saturday’s world title fight will be his eighth. The Spence bout is his 18th consecutive world title fight. Spence’s trainer, Derrick James, traded insults with Crawford’s head coach, Brian McIntyre. James argued with the Crawford supporters who had gathered at T-Mobile Arena for the news conference. Crawford began the event pleading for calm between the two camps, and ended it exchanging R-rated barbs with the loudest member of Spence’s entourage.

By using special constitutional powers instead of risking lawmakers rejecting the reform, Macron has given ammunition to the opposition and to trade union leaders who cast the reform as undemocratic. LE PEN AMBUSHTo be sure, claims of authoritarianism by the pension bill's critics are far-fetched. Political observers say Le Pen played her hand well. "Mrs Le Pen is ready for the ambush," Laurent Berger, the head of the moderate CFDT union said on Thursday, hours before the vote. But the end of debates in parliament may do little to quell anger on the streets.
But he says ridding the nation of Saddam has just created anarchy for others to bleed the country dry. Under Saddam's rule minorities were tolerated and not singled out for their religious beliefs, but were oppressed if they opposed the government. After the fall of Saddam, they were targeted by Islamists for their religious beliefs and labelled apostates or devil worshippers. A CHRISTIAN: PASCALE WARDAWhen U.S.-led forces invaded, Iraqi Christian Pascale Warda was in London lobbying European leaders to depose Saddam. It was the same under Saddam," said Warda, who had several members of her family executed by the state.

At its Halloween party in 2015, the adtech startup MediaMath seemed on the brink of greatness. The machine-learning revolution that took over the financial industry was finally happening in marketing, and many industry insiders considered MediaMath to be the hottest adtech company of the time. "We never came close to consummating such a deal with MediaMath nor entertained the purported valuation," said a representative for Singtel. The Trade Desk, the most comparable independent DSP company to MediaMath, was riding high after its 2016 initial public offering. The quasi-equity agreement was structured to protect Searchlight if MediaMath didn't perform to certain quotas or if things went south financially.
Airbus and Qatar Airways settle bitter A350 jet row

The "amicable and mutually agreeable settlement" ends a $2 billion row over surface damage on the long-haul jets. The spat led to the withdrawal of billions of dollars' worth of jet deals by Airbus and prompted Qatar to increase purchases from Boeing. The deal heads off what amounted to an unprecedented public divorce trial between heavyweights in the normally tight-knit and secretive $150 billion jet industry. Airbus' decision to revoke that order, separate from the disputed A350 contract, had been criticised by global airlines group IATA. Airbus said it had done its best to avoid pushing Qatar too far back in the queue.
House Dem whip says caucus will keep voting in speaker race House Democratic whip Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Mass, said her caucus will stick around and continue voting in the speaker race. Davidson suggested there are "a couple procedural paths" where McCarthy could become speaker if Republicans changed the threshold needed to win the election. The polarization is too great.” Cole said that for all the House GOP divisions, “there’s no question” that most members in the caucus are closer in policy and vision to the anti-McCarthy rebels than they are to centrist Democrats. As Biden celebrated an upgrade to an aging bridge linking Kentucky and Ohio, House Republicans deadlocked on the basic task of electing a speaker, foreshadowing what is likely to be two years of infighting. The McCarthy-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund and the conservative Club for Growth agreed to not pick sides in some competitive House GOP primary races in exchange for supporting McCarthy's bid for speaker.
COVINGTON, Ky. — A key part of the White House plan to combat the new House GOP majority was on vivid display Wednesday: President Joe Biden talked about bridges and bipartisanship, while Republicans bickered among themselves. They plan to show him addressing real-world problems that are Americans' top concern while painting congressional Republicans as being focused on raw politics. They are refining plans to pressure House Republicans in swing districts to stop any impeachment votes in committee — before the issue reaches the House floor. The general view inside the White House is that there is little of substance to worry about. There, Barack Obama challenged McConnell and congressional Republicans to “help us rebuild this bridge!” and put unemployed construction workers to work.
I thought I was going to work at Salesforce my entire life; I was there for almost 12 years. But a turning point happened in my career — and really, my life — after my husband and I had a jarring conversation. On the drive home, my husband said, "You are really hard to be around right now." At Ironclad, I still worked hard — that's just who I am — but this time I worked smarter. Creating these boundaries and learning how to stick to them has helped me understand that I set the limits of my work life — not the company I work for.

EU Commission to propose potential 'dynamic' gas price cap
  + stars: | 2022-10-17 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com RegisterThe Commission is recommending potential interventions in the Dutch Title Transfer Facility (TTF) price that is widely used in Europe for contracts and hedging. The EU executive would "as a last resort" propose establishing a market "dynamic" price at which natural gas transactions can take place in the TTF spot market under specific conditions. Other EU gas trading hubs would be linked to the corrected TTF spot price via a dynamic price corridor. "As a result of falling gas prices, this proposal shows that the appetite for ambitious reform, such as a price cap, is fading," said Georg Zachmann, an energy expert at think tank Bruegel. The proposals will need approval by EU governments, which have bickered for more than a month since the Commission first proposed a price cap only on Russian gas in early September.
