Being a veteran world-class swimmer — and cyclist, and runner — Taylor Spivey has dealt with worse than Paris’ River Seine. (Bertrand Guay / AFP via Getty Images)Standards for water quality differ in Europe than in the United States. “And that can be associated, on one hand, with the clement weather, dry weather. A month ago, we, basically, we hadn’t had yet a single day where the water quality had been acceptable for the whole year. Right now, probably, today, I would go swim.”GO DEEPER Team USA has owned the Olympic swimming pool — is that about to change in Paris?

"Unless you're going to the Olympics, people aren't going to Paris ... very few are," Bastian told CNBC. Delta has the most service of any U.S. airline to Paris and holds a joint venture with Air France. On July 1, Air France-KLM, the parent of Air France, forecast a revenue hit of as much as 180 million euros ($195.5 million) in June through August because of the Olympic Games. Bastian said Paris demand after the Olympics, which run July 26 through August 11, will likely be strong.

Fluidion’s testing has found that, on average, E. Coli levels in the Siene between early April and late May were just under 3400 MPN/100mL. The highest E. Coli levels recorded by Fluidion were 23590 MPN/100mL on May 2 and 13090 MPN/100mL on May 30, according to Angelescu. But if poor water quality persisted, the triathlon would have to be downgraded to a duathlon with no swimming, the organization confirmed. Angelescu said that “significant infrastructure projects” by the city of Paris designed to improve water quality will have a “substantial” impact. Mbappé was speaking at a media conference on Tuesday ahead of France’s friendly against Luxembourg and stressed that his long-expected move to Madrid was a “relief,” while also adding that his final season in Paris was filled with mixed emotions. While saying in general that he was happy in his final season, he went to detail one aspect that did make him unhappy. But his final season in Paris was overshadowed by speculation around his future. “I wish him all the best,” told CNN Sport’s Amanda Davies at the Globe Soccer Awards Forum in Sardinia, Italy.

The criminal trial and conviction of (mostly former) national leaders has happened in stable, mature democracies, just as it has in former dictatorships. The track record of convicted leaders shows just how risky it is to try to predict what will happen. In 2017, South Korea impeached and later criminally convicted now-former President Park Geun-hye in a bizarre corruption scandal involving the influence of a friend and confidante. After a scandal emerged involving the state oil company Petrobras, Lula was convicted in 2017 of corruption and money laundering. “Political leaders can choose how they will speak about these institutions.”

The teacher had shown his pupils cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad in a class on freedom of expression, angering a number of Muslim parents. One of the minors is a 15-year-old girl who allegedly told her parents that Paty had shown caricatures of the prophet in her class. All six minors were referred to the children's court and could face 2.5 years in prison.

The biggest of those games is in the spotlight this week, as Activision Blizzard’s latest “Call of Duty” sequel went on sale Friday. Called “Modern Warfare III,” the new game is notable for a couple reasons. The first is that much of its development took place during a period in which Activision’s future structure was uncertain, as the $75 billion acquisition by Microsoft took nearly two years to close.

The Olympics, last hosted in Tokyo, Japan, is the world's largest sporting event and the French government claims the 2024 Games will be the most inclusive yet. It’s an embarrassing distraction for the games organizers, who have trumpeted the events accessibility credentials. “Paris 2024 will be the first Games to focus on solidarity and inclusivity,” boasts their official site. Labour groups vowed to dig in their heels after talks with Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on Wednesday - which lasted just an hour - failed to calm the situation. They said the only way out of the crisis was for the legislation to be pulled, an option which Borne flatly rejected. "After this meeting, I am calling for a maximum of workers, men and women, to join the marches across France tomorrow," Laurent Berger, head of the country's biggest union CFDT, said on Wednesday. Strikes are still disrupting operations at oil refineries and nuclear plants, while garbage collectors have vowed to resume their protest from next week. Polls show a wide majority of French oppose the pension legislation and the government's decision to push it through parliament without a vote.
Wednesday's talks were the first high-stakes meeting between the government of President Emmanuel Macron and union bosses since nationwide protests and strikes against the legislation started in mid-January. The talks, ahead of a new day of walkouts and marches planned for Thursday, lasted about an hour. Borne told reporters that she was open to further talks but that she would not backdown on the retirement age. Labour representatives complain they are not being listened to despite weeks of protest marches and unrest against the pension overhaul. Chabanier said the unions told Borne the only way out of the deadlock was for the government to withdraw the reform.
From September this year, the regular retirement age will increase by three months a year until 2030. The higher retirement age should tackle a pension funding deficit, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne told reporters on Tuesday as she laid out the reforms. Revamping the pensions system has been a key element of French President Emmanuel Macron’s election campaigns. In the United States and the United Kingdom, the retirement age is between 66 and 67, depending on the year in which you were born. An earlier attempt by Macron to revamp the pensions system was met with nationwide strikes in 2019 before being abandoned during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bertrand GUAY/Pool via REUTERSPARIS, Sept 26 (Reuters) - French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne told RMC Radio that while she did not want to comment on Italians' democratic choices, she nevertheless wanted to highlight that the European Union had certain values to uphold, such as on abortion and human rights. Borne was commenting in the wake of Italy's election, in which Giorgia Meloni looked set to become Italy's first woman prime minister at the head of its most right-wing government since World War Two, after leading a conservative alliance to triumph at Sunday's vote.
