Microsoft cut more than 1,000 employees over the past week, insiders say.
Microsoft laid off more than 1,000 employees over the past week, primarily in customer service and sales roles, people familiar with the changes told Insider.
The cuts go beyond the 10,000 layoffs Microsoft indicated it was planning earlier this year, according to these people.
As part of these moves, Microsoft shut its "Digital Sales and Success" group, a sales and customer service team that at one point had thousands of employees.
"The focus is more to accelerate consumption than it is to help customers," one person familiar with the changes told Insider.
