CNN —The identity of bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto has long been one of the biggest mysteries of the internet age. Yet the man that director Cullen Hoback’s film names as the 2009 founder of bitcoin is denying he is Satoshi Nakamoto. “For the record, I’m not Satoshi,” Peter Todd, a bitcoin core developer, told CNN in a statement. Hoback’s evidence includes a 2010 bitcoin message board post from Todd that he concludes was written by Satoshi Nakamoto. There are signs across AI models, chips, and new form factors that the market is getting frothy. Investors spent the summer wondering if top AI stocks could continue to justify soaring valuations in the face of absent returns from their massive AI spending. Now, signs have emerged that they're not yet done with generative AI mania. OpenAI reaches dizzying new heightsSam Altman's OpenAI secured a $157 billion valuation after raising $6.6 billion in its latest funding round. In short, a lossmaking startup must justify its $157 billion valuation.

The Social Media Olympics

Just moments after the American wrestler Sarah Hildebrandt won a gold medal at the Paris Games, she let the whole world know what she was thinking:“Oh my gosh I just won the FREAKING OLYMPICS hahahahah DUUUUDE,” she wrote on social media from the event venue. But at the Olympics, it’s part of a new twist — and one of the keys to returning to the sense of a shared national experience that defined the Games of yesteryear. For the last decade or more, it has seemed like the Olympics have struggled to capture relevance the way they did a generation ago. Blame was assigned to a fracturing media landscape and a long string of asterisks (pandemic restrictions in Tokyo, time zone issues in Beijing, a Zika outbreak in Rio de Janeiro, geopolitical tensions in Sochi). But the reason may have been simpler: The Olympics has largely been missing from social media.

“Interpreting economic data is like interpreting a Monet painting in the best of times,” Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, told CNN in an interview. “When President Biden takes credit for all jobs and says Trump lost all the jobs? “And until it does, we won’t have a real good sense of what the new metrics are that reflect the direction in the economy and consumer confidence.”Twenty years ago, presidential elections came down to “jobs, jobs, jobs,” Brusuelas said. “They’re going to be thinking, ‘Wait a minute, all this money’s going into this and can replace the job that guys like me do? For the average person, the economic data only means so much anyways, Brusuelas said, adding that it comes down to “protein and petrol” versus percentage points.

I came out of reality TV retirement to go on "The Traitors." I'm going through my texts and one is like, "Hey, I'm a reality TV producer, I want to get you on this show." I couldn't eat and also pretend that I didn't know who got murdered, so I just did my best to hang out. I enjoyed competing on 'The Traitors,' but I'm done with reality TV for good this timeGheesling is saying bye to reality TV, for real this time. "It depends a lot on interest rates, and if they can remain where they're at, I think that's certainly a possibility," Keller said in a recent interview with Insider. Speaking of spot-on, Keller predicted in mid-September that the S&P 500 would fall to 4,100 if it broke below 4,350. "And a lot of S&P stocks are still down on the year, but that seems like it's starting to change." Its relative performance is also lacking , as the S&P 500 is up 17.3% in that span. Below are charts from Keller showing the strong technical setups of the S&P 500 and the four investments that he's especially bullish on now.

Demonstrators carry signs during the WGA strike in New York City in May. Leonardo Munoz/AFP via Getty ImagesWhatever the outcome of this battle, though, there are signs Hollywood overall is losing the war. Now with streaming gains slowing, the revenues from those new subscribers aren’t fully offsetting what’s being lost. That’s bad for the creative class.”So, were there “winners” and “losers” in the writers’ strike? To the extent the strike left their fall TV lineups looking relatively bare, this was a loss for them and gift to the streaming services.

Brands love to tweet with emojis — maybe they think it makes them look down with the kids. The problem is, you can know the language, but still be picking the wrong words, or — in this case — images. Brands' top five, according to this research, were the fire emoji, the finger pointing to the right, a football, a blue heart, and a cocktail. That tracks, as I don't think I've ever seen any of the other emojis typed by a personal account on social media or elsewhere. Why would you pick a blue heart so often that it's in your top 10?

The S & P 500 had just sustained its worst calendar-year loss in half a generation. Textbook consolidation Last week's modest 1.4% decline in the S & P 500 did little to alter either the favorable underlying market trend or the notion that more consolidation might be in store. The median year-end S & P 500 target among Street strategists is 4250, 100 points below Friday's close, and the most-bullish forecast is for about a 5% further gain. And just as the market's performance has been skewed toward these hit hyper-cap tech stocks, so is the S & P 500's valuation. .SPX 1Y mountain S & P 500 1-year Big picture: The market this year has chewed through plenty of perfectly valid excuses to falter without doing so.

Videos show a view looking up at a building in Russia and then zooming down to a small antiwar figurine there. With Putin’s crackdown on protests of the Ukraine war, people have found ways to express their opposition through small displays of resistance. Fish, asterisks, blank messages and the letter Z: All of these are symbols of opposition to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Sending such pictures, even privately, carries enormous risk: Sharing antiwar messages can be a cause for imprisonment. A Ukrainian flag is sometimes paired with an antiwar flag.

Donald Trump’s criminal cases, explained

Trump was indicted back in March by the Manhattan district attorney on state charges related to hush-money payments to a former adult-film star in 2016. Smith is also overseeing other investigations related to Trump, including those regarding the January 6, 2021, insurrection and the 2020 election. That federal law deals with the illegal retention of “national defense information,” a broad term that encompasses classified documents and other sensitive government materials. Federal charges related to classified documents likely do not either. But people do routinely serve prison time for retention of classified documents, conspiracy and obstruction.

Twitter accounts that offer to trade or sell child sexual abuse material under thinly veiled terms and hashtags have remained online for months, even after CEO Elon Musk said he would combat child exploitation on the platform. The tweets reviewed by NBC News offer to sell or trade content that is commonly known as child pornography or child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The tweets do not show CSAM, and NBC News did not view any CSAM in the course of reporting this article. The problem has been pervasive enough to catch the attention of some Twitter users. In 25 tweets, users tagged Musk using at least one of the major hashtags to alert him to the content.
Minneapolis CNN —America’s central bank found itself in a glaring spotlight for much of this past year, as Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell wielded blunt tools of interest rate hikes and quantitative tightening to curb surging inflation. That means the Fed, with its “laser focus on the job market,” could be “continually hawkish” at the start of 2023, said Ross Mayfield, investment strategy analyst at Baird. “This latent strength in the job market could be the reason that the Fed over-tightens,” he told CNN. Jerome Powell, chairman of the US Federal Reserve, from right, Lael Brainard, vice chair of the board of governors for the Federal Reserve System, and John Williams, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, during a break at the Jackson Hole economic symposium in Moran, Wyoming, on Aug. 26, 2022. That’s 0.2 percentage points higher than the 4.4% rate they were expecting in September and significantly higher than the current 3.7% rate.
