AdvertisementI moved from Canada to the US in 2010 and have no plans to return anytime soon. Canada's healthcare isn't as great as it soundsMy left-leaning American friends dream about moving north under the specter of a second Trump administration. At the same time, Canada's healthcare system experiences some of the longest wait times for "elective" procedures like knee replacements, and there's no way to skip the line, for better or worse. Why I'm staying in New YorkI'm not a fan of the direction American politics is taking. But thanks to the plentiful opportunities in New York and the lack thereof I see in Canada, I'm staying in the US.

The Supreme Court will consider a law restricting transition-related health care for minors for the first time Wednesday, and legal experts say the court’s decision could affect access to transition-related care nationwide for both minors and adults for decades to come. The Supreme Court granted the Biden administration’s appeal of a 6th U.S. The court won’t consider the part of the law that bans surgery, which wasn’t covered by the lower court’s injunction. The ACLU and Lambda Legal noted in their petition to the Supreme Court that circuit courts have become split on the restrictions. Many families with trans kids have had to work around care restrictions to continue care for their children.

I don't want to be a parent and I would like to spend my time doing other things. When we first met in 2012, my wife said that, due to health concerns, she never wanted to bear children. In theory, it removed the physical risk of either having to carry or give birth to a child, two things that understandably terrified my wife. If there is any meaningful distinction to be found between having kids and being a parent, it is perhaps wholly semantic. I want to spend the rest of my life with my wife.

Mike DeWine signed a bill Wednesday banning transgender students from using school restrooms that align with their gender identities. The bill also mandates that Ohio schools cannot have restrooms or locker rooms that are open to all genders, excluding family facilities or single-occupancy facilities. Instead, it will make trans people less safe and fail to increase the safety of all students,” Antonio wrote. Ohio House Republicans attached the legislation about restrooms to proposals regarding report card data for Ohio’s college credit program for high school students. “Extremist politicians are panicking because transgender students exist," Willingham-Jaggers said.

The US government tracks what percentage of each car’s parts is made “domestically.” But under current trade law, both Canadian-made parts and US-made parts are counted as the same domestic content. “Yes, it’s America’s truck, assembled in America, but not with American parts,” Ivan Drury, director of insights for Edmunds, told CNN. Domestic parts could be tough to findFinding domestic supplies for many of the imported car parts would be difficult. Even if an American parts supply could be found, in most cases it would be more expensive. Fewer imported cars would raise all pricesTariffs on imported vehicles likely would also lead to higher prices on cars that are assembled here, since it would limit the supply of vehicles in the US market.

CNN —The morning after Donald Trump was reelected president, Justices Samuel Alito and Elena Kagan began jousting more than usual. More than other justices on their respective sides, conservative Alito and liberal Kagan are sharp-tongued strategic questioners. North Carolina lawyer Katie Jenifer is trying to prepare one year’s worth of estrogen for her transgender daughter. If the Trump administration still allows trans people to change the gender marker on their passport, Greenesmith said, it might require them to provide proof of gender-reassignment surgery, putting gender-marker changes out of reach for the majority of trans people.
