"It's a very momentum-driven market," said Ben Klein, the cofounder at the record label and music-marketing firm Hundred Days. Still, for some artists, albums can be a useful tool for marketing, streaming economics, and nourishing their biggest fans. "If you're capturing all of your fans and the fans are streaming 10 songs or they're streaming 30 songs, it actually makes a big difference on charting and streaming revenue." AdvertisementOf course, writing lots of quality songs for an album is easier said than done. And some artists are wary of letting social-media strategies or streaming incentives bleed into the creative process.

Defense has historically outperformed when there's been a single party in control across Congress and the executive branch — in particular, the Republican Party, according to Wells Fargo analyst Matthew Akers. However, Akers believes the defense sector may not benefit if there's a Republican sweep this election cycle. Another two years of low growth for both defense and non-defense looks likely to us," Akers wrote in a Tuesday note. The firm said a Trump presidency is positive for the defense sector. Anson Dorrance knew he was a pioneer during his eight years as head coach of the US Women’s National Team (USWNT). Any understanding of how and why the USWNT is women’s soccer’s dominant force, a four-time Women’s World Cup winner and favorite to win the next edition currently taking place in Australia and New Zealand, must start with Dorrance, the groundbreaker and the bricklayer. Five years later, the first Women’s World Cup was held in China – not that it was initially labelled a World Cup as world governing body FIFA worried it might not be a success. A third-placed finish followed at the 1995 Women’s World Cup, and then came the Atlanta Olympics a year later. The success of 1999 would lead to the world’s first professional women’s soccer league, the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA).

THE BATHYSPHERE BOOK: Effects of the Luminous Ocean Depths, by Brad FoxConsider the siphonophore. An inhabitant of the lightless ocean, it looks like a single organism, but is actually a collection of minute creatures, each with its own purpose, working in harmony to move, to eat, to stay alive. In 1930 William Beebe was 3,000 feet underwater in a bathysphere, an early deep-sea submersible, when he spotted a huge one: a writhing 20-yard mass whose pale magenta shone impossibly against the absolute blackness of the water. “In that light, our furious competition, our back-stabbing and fights over resources, is nonsense. Better we work together, getting closer and closer, more finely attuned to each other’s needs until we are indistinguishable.”

April 14 (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) shares closed down 5.6% on Friday after the planemaker halted deliveries of some 737 MAX jets due to quality-related problems in certain components made by one of its main suppliers. Boeing, together with Spirit, will have to undertake inspections of the affected MAX 7, MAX 8 and MAX 8200 airplanes and fuselages. "Unlike the recent 787 delivery pause in Q1 ... this issue relates to actual non-conforming parts, which will need to be inspected (at minimum) or reworked. "We see more negative financial exposure to this news at Spirit than at Boeing," J.P. Morgan analyst Seth Seifman said. Southwest Airlines (LUV.N) expects the issue to impact its current delivery schedule, while American Airlines (AAL.O) said it was working with Boeing to understand the effect.
