The media company announced Thursday that it sold First We Feast, the food and pop culture entertainment brand behind the popular "Hot Ones" YouTube show, for $82.5 million in an all-cash deal. Additional investors will be announced at a later date, according to a press release from First We Feast, which will now operate as an independent multiplatform media company. Its show “Hot Ones,” which features celebrities answering questions while eating spicy chicken wings, has grown a strong fandom over the years for its unique format and Evans’ interview style. Evans will continue to serve as the host of "Hot Ones" and take on an additional role as First We Feast's chief creative officer. In a statement, Evans said he's "excited to continue hosting ‘the show with hot questions, and even hotter wings’ for years to come."

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden and his senior aides are discussing the idea of issuing preemptive pardons for those whom President-elect Donald Trump has scorned in recent years as he has hinted about plans for retribution, two sources familiar with the discussions confirmed. Some Democrats and “Never Trump” Republicans have supported the notion of preemptive pardons to protect people under a new Trump presidency. Previous presidents have issued such pardons, including George H.W. Back in the Biden White House, there is work being done on the president’s use of clemency authority on criminal justice cases. Advocates, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., and civil rights attorney Ben Crump are encouraging the president to act on a variety of cases they say are worthy of clemency.

The Democratic National Committee will elect a new chairman on Feb. 1, the party announced Monday, as it reels from President-Elect Donal Trump’s victory earlier this month. That includes Wisconsin State Party Chair Ben Wikler, who is set to announce a decision right after Thanksgiving, a person with knowledge of his thinking said. The timeline will be more compressed than the last time the party elected a new chair after losing the White House, in 2017, when the election was held on Feb. 25. The Feb. 1 date will allow Democrats to have a new chair in place shortly after Trump’s Inauguration on Jan. 20 and at the start of his administration. I have been watching “The Great British Bake Off” since it arrived on American shores about 10 years ago as “The Great British Baking Show.” The baking competition was such a staple of my mid-aughts TV routine that my older daughter used to call it “cake channel” when she was in preschool. Even so, in all my years watching “G.B.B.O.,” with all its memorable characters, no contestant had ever won my heart the way that Nelly Ghaffar has this season. Ghaffar is a joyful mother of two from Dorset, England, who works as a palliative care nurse, and she’s originally from Slovakia. Her English retains a charming accent, which reminded me of my Austrian oma’s. I am still thinking of her, though she was sent home on the episode that Netflix showed two weeks ago, because the show isn’t the same without her genuine warmth and good humor.

The Justice Department on Wednesday asked the judge in its antitrust case against Google to force the company to sell its Chrome browser. "Advertisers would find competitors for their business, rather than needing to pay a dominant search engine." When you open Chrome and type something into the search bar at the top, these words are automatically transformed into a Google Search. And when there's an option for users, Google pays partners billions of dollars to set its search engine as the default. For instance, if most people click on the third result, Google's Search engine will likely adjust and rank that result higher in the future.
