White sand, clear turquoise sea and lush trees swaying in the breeze. This might sound like a description of the Maldives — but it's actually what I experienced on a recent trip to Italy. The area was founded by Prince Karim Aga Khan IV in the 1960s and now attracts the jet set. Airfare obviously affects travel costs, but I spent $1,500 for a week on the island, including flights from London. We stopped for a lemon granita at the Shardana restaurant, set among the trees overlooking the white sand Baia Sant'Anna beach.

U.S. adults will wager $35 billion this NFL season, according to projections from the American Gaming Association. Since last NFL season, Maine, North Carolina and Vermont have allowed sports betting operators to launch in their states. "The NFL season is our biggest acquisition period of the year," said Christian Genetski, president of FanDuel, the nation's leading sportsbook. Since then, Fanatics Sportsbook acquired PointsBet's U.S. operations and technology, which is now fully integrated. It first launched in November last year, smack in the middle of NFL season.

“But matters affecting the integrity of the game have a chilling effect across the board and governing bodies know this is their Achilles heel,” he warned. Fast forward to 2024 and the gambling industry is engrained in US sports culture with leagues, franchises, players and networks now partnering with betting organizations. “We need legislation to do things like prevent sports betting advertising, and to prevent prop betting. However, it can be often in leagues’ financial interest for betting to increase in popularity. “The sports leagues have turned to sports betting because it increases fan avidity.

Why the NFL went all in on sports gambling
  + stars: | 2024-02-10 | by ( Chris Isidore | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +6 min
On Sunday, the NFL will hold its first Super Bowl in Las Vegas, a city built on gambling. Even in 2003, gambling was as much a part of the NFL as tailgating, helmets and shoulder pads. Yet the change in the league’s relationship with sports gambling couldn’t be more obvious as it prepares for its first Super Bowl in Sin City. That direct spending is only part of the way the NFL has learned to profit from legalized gambling. The column came four years before the Supreme Court opened the door for legal sports gambling.

By Cara Murez HealthDay Reporter(HealthDay)WEDNESDAY, Nov. 1, 2023 (HealthDay News) -- Despite progress in recent decades, too many Americans still have dangerously high LDL cholesterol levels, and about a quarter don't even know it, new research finds. Of course, you can only start treatment for high cholesterol if you know your cholesterol numbers are high. “That's why it's absolutely imperative that everybody should get their cholesterol checked and they should know their numbers,” Virani said. Being unaware and untreated for high cholesterol disproportionately affected Black, Hispanic and poorer people. “Clinicians have a lot of options to treat these patients and make sure that both their quality and quantity of life is not compromised just because of these high LDL cholesterol levels,” Virani said.

Feb 11 (Reuters) - The Super Bowl has long been the single biggest sports betting event of the year in the United States and Sunday's showdown in Glendale, Arizona could reach new heights as wagering on the NFL's championship game has exploded in popularity. "The fact that the Super Bowl is being played in a state where you can legally bet on sports was almost unthinkable five years ago," American Gaming Association (AGA) President and CEO Bill Miller told Reuters. "There is important symbolism and economics around the fact that a Super Bowl is being held in a state where sports betting is legal, no question about that." A survey by the AGA, a trade group for the U.S. casino industry, showed a record 50.4 million American adults, or about 20% of the population, are expected to bet $16 billion on the Super Bowl. "It isn't necessarily something new as far as the Super Bowl but I think we are paying more attention to it now because more people have access to bet."

A record 50 million Americans are expected to bet on the Super Bowl. Over 50 million Americans — or roughly one in five US adults — are projected to place a bet on the Super Bowl, per an American Gaming Association survey conducted last week of over 2,100 Americans. If you've ever participated in a Super Bowl squares contest, you might not have thought of it as gambling, but the AGA counted these people among the bettors. For the first time, however, the AGA said it's projecting the number of traditional Super Bowl bettors — through online or retail sportsbooks — to exceed the number who bet casually with friends or through a squares contest. That's 30 million projected traditional bettors to 28 million casual, with some people expected to participate in both formats.

CNN —The federal government isn’t going to take away your gas stove, a top consumer regulator told CNN on Wednesday. Trumka confirmed to CNN that “everything’s on the table” when it comes to gas stoves, but stressed that any ban would apply only to new gas stoves, not existing ones. That study found almost 13% of current childhood asthma in the United States is attributable to gas stove use. “I’ll NEVER give up my gas stove,” Jackson tweeted on Tuesday. If the exhaust is not vented outside the home, Trumka said gas stove users should open a window or turn on a fan to clear the air.

It's costing state government millions in tax revenue. Illicit sports betting — and illegal gambling more broadly — is costing states millions in tax revenue, and someday, taxpayers could be called upon to foot part of the bill. Illegal sports betting is costing them millions in tax revenue — an estimated $700 million in total revenue per year, per the AGA report. Legalization has been a boon for states' tax coffers, and is among the reasons many states' tax revenues have fully recovered from a pandemic dip. Others may simply have grown used to illegal operators and not want to switch as a result.
Companies American Gas Association FollowWASHINGTON, Dec 7 (Reuters) - The White House on Wednesday launched the first standard on cutting carbon emissions from federal buildings as part of the Biden administration's policy on curbing climate change. The Federal Building Performance Standard requires federal agencies to cut energy use and electrify equipment and appliances to achieve zero emissions in 30% of their buildings by square footage space by 2030. U.S. President Joe Biden wants federal buildings to be emissions free by 2045 as part of his goal of decarbonizing the economy by 2050. To get there, agencies will be buying American-made products such as heat pumps, electric water heaters and other energy efficiency technologies, the White House said. "Eliminating natural gas in federal buildings is an impractical, unscientific and expensive idea that will have no environmental benefit," said Karen Harbert, AGA president and chief executive.
An estimated 132 million Americans now live in states where sports betting is legal, compared with just 10 million during the last World Cup four years ago. AGA reports the majority of those betting — 78% — say placing legal bets is important. "As the World Cup kicks off, anyone getting in on the action should have a game plan to bet responsibly," AGA Senior Vice President Casey Clark said in a press release. Legal gambling means you may not find yourself in trouble with the law for wagering on the World Cup or any other sporting event. Before mobile sports betting became widely legal, bettors had to go to a physical sportsbook or work with a live bookie to place bets.
