CNN —A Russian-controlled segment of the International Space Station is leaking, allowing pressure and air to bleed out. The situation has reached a fever pitch as cosmonauts scramble to patch problem areas and officials from Russia’s space agency, Roscosmos, and NASA disagree about the severity of the problem. Looming space station issuesNASA has contingencies in place for crew safety, but the space agency is also grappling with the fact that the leaking Russian module may pose a threat to the safety and longevity of the space station. In addition to Roscosmos, they include the Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. Still, it’s not clear whether the commercial destinations will be ready before the space station is forced to retire.

Read previewThe Russian military has built wild-looking "turtle tanks" to shield its vulnerable tanks from the dangers of exploding drones. A new one showed off in a video this week featured a fold-out metal bed. Related storiesBusiness Insider could not independently verify the details of the video, including when or where the video was taken. The armor has since become much more complex, as demonstrated by Russia's new turtle tank. The turtle tank, though, remains one of the more unusual designs seen in the war.

The channel said drones are in "great demand" among sailors and can "effectively combat" naval drones. A more cost-effective solution for Russia to defeat Ukrainian drones could be to use its own drones. Russia can use the FPV drones for a range of missions, including intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance purposes, in addition to threat elimination. AdvertisementUsing swings to mimic the motion of waves in adverse weather is a relatively new aspect of this training, Bendett said. Little is known about Russia's naval drone program, but these systems will likely be used beyond training scenarios.

He’s going to be a killer rebounder, monster screener and will consistently establish his position even against some of the stronger NBA players. I’m done doubting Edey, even as an NBA player. As an enormous ballhandler with serious touch and incredible vision as a passer, Topić is clearly an NBA player, even if it doesn’t all translate. Shannon is an elite athlete, but the NBA game requires more nuance, especially if he continues to be an inconsistent shooter. However, I also think he’s more than just a floor spacer on offense in spot-up situations and potentially as an off-ball scorer.

Roscosmos said on Wednesday that it detected an air leak on board the ISS that poses no threat to the crew. "There is an area at the end of the International Space Station that we've seen a leak. MOSCOW, Nov 16 (Reuters) - Russia's rocket forces loaded an intercontinental ballistic missile equipped with the nuclear-capable "Avangard" hypersonic glide vehicle into a launch silo in southern Russia, according to a defence ministry TV channel broadcast on Thursday. President Vladimir Putin announced the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle in 2018, saying it was a response to U.S. development of a new generation of weapons and a U.S. missile defence system that it could penetrate. Russia installed its first Avangard-equipped missile in 2019 at the same Orenburg facility. But the United States, Russia and China are developing a range of new weapons systems, including hypersonic ones. Russia says the post-Cold War dominance of the United States is crumbling and that Washington has for years sown chaos across the planet while ignoring the interests of other powers.

Putin accuses IOC of using Olympics for politics and racism
  + stars: | 2023-10-19 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Oct 19 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin on Thursday lashed out at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for effectively suspending Russia from the Olympic movement, accusing it of using the Games as a tool of politics and racism. Last week the IOC banned the Russian Olympic Committee for recognising regional bodies from four territories that Moscow claims to have annexed from Ukraine. "And that the Games themselves can be used as an instrument of political pressure against people who have nothing to do with politics. The IOC did not say last week whether they would be admitted to Paris 2024. Stanislav Pozdnyakov, head of the Russian Olympic Committee, said in Perm that the key thing now was to prepare athletes for the 2028 Games.

The sources said other senior Russian energy officials would also be in the delegation. Gazprom, the world's biggest natural gas producer, and Rosneft, Russia's biggest oil producer, did not immediately reply to requests for comments. The proposed pipeline would bring gas from the Yamal peninsula fields in western Siberia to China, the world's top energy consumer and a growing gas consumer. China and Russia have yet to agree on the terms of gas deliveries via the route, including pricing. Negotiations are complex, in part because China is not expected to need more gas until after 2030, industry analysts said.

A top Russian general admitted his elite paratroopers suffered thousands of casualties in Ukraine. It's unclear exactly how many casualties Russian forces have suffered during the Ukraine war. Favorited by Russian ultranationalists, Teplinsky oversaw successful combat operations last year but was eventually dismissed from his leadership role. This prompted some insubordination from the Russian airborne commander, who even expressed his frustration with Moscow's military brass directly to Putin. The elite paratroopers suffered heavy losses early on and continued to struggle in the months that followed.

CNN —The United Nations has said that Russian accounts of a rocket attack on a camp holding Ukrainian prisoners of war in July 2022 are not supported by the evidence. More than 50 Ukrainian prisoners were killed in the strike that year on a detention center in the town of Olenivka. An extensive CNN investigation published in August last year demonstrated that the Russian narrative that the camp had been hit by a Ukrainian HIMARS rocket did not stand up to scrutiny – a finding now supported by the findings by the UN Human Rights Commissioner (OHCHR). There is almost no chance that a HIMARS rocket caused the damage to the warehouse where the prisoners were being held.”Experts consulted by CNN discounted a HIMARS strike on Olenivka – but could not say definitively what killed and wounded so many prisoners. “Our office has met with the families of the victims and heard their pleas for truth and justice – and indeed, they have a right to truth, justice and reparations.

July 24 (Reuters) - Two Ukraine-launched drones attacked Moscow early on Monday, but were intercepted and destroyed, Russia's defence ministry said. State news agencies reported that drone fragments were found 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) away from the ministry's buildings. Calling it a "terrorist attack," the defence ministry said on its Telegram messaging app that there were no casualties in the attack. Neither the defence ministry nor the mayor said where the drones were intercepted. Russia's defence ministry television channel Zvezda published a short video on its Telegram channel showing a high-rise building with missing windows on top floors and damaged structure.

MOSCOW, June 14 (Reuters) - Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on Wednesday one of his senior commanders was alive and well, dismissing reports that he had been killed or wounded in Ukraine. The commander, Adam Delimkhanov, heads the Chechen division of the Russian national guard and is also a member of Russia's parliament. In a later posting on Telegram, Kadyrov mocked the Ukrainian media reports about Delimkhanov for "brazen lies about his elimination". Earlier on Wednesday, Russia's Zvezda television channel cited the parliamentary press service as saying Delimkhanov had been wounded in Ukraine. It followed rumours on Ukrainian social media channels that the Chechen commander had been killed in an artillery strike in southern Ukraine.

But Putin on Tuesday made it clear he wanted to see all so-called private military companies sign up and that he also wanted to the law changed to legalise their activities. "This is the only way to ensure social guarantees (for mercenary fighters) because there is (currently) no contract with the state and no contract with the Defence Ministry," Putin told a group of war correspondents. "This has to be done and it has to be done as quickly as possible," Putin said. The ministry has not responded to a request for comment on Prigozhin's refusal to sign up with it. Lieutenant-General Vladimir Alekseyev said after the signing ceremony that he was sure other volunteer groups would sign the same contract in the course of the next week.
