Now we’re looking in the village to rent one apartment,” Ali Eid, 56, told NBC News in a telephone interview Friday after returning to his hometown of Maarakah in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district. Almost 3,500 people have been killed in Lebanon, according to officials in the country. In northern Israel, 60,000 people have been forced from their homes, with 80 soldiers and 50 civilians killed, according to local officials. On his return, he said around 50 homes had been destroyed in the village, but his house was still standing. “Some shattered glass only, but around us, my neighbor’s house is on the ground.”“I am happy, scared, in complete shock at the same time.

ZOUK MOSBEH, Lebanon — When night falls, it's no longer sleep but the humming threat of an Israeli strike that descends on the Lebanese capital. Israel's overnight attacks, which reached the heart of Beirut in the early hours of Thursday, mean that few in the city and beyond are getting any rest. The strike on central Beirut's Bachoura neighborhood was the deepest Israel has attacked into the capital. ZOUK MOSBEH, Lebanon — Israeli airstrikes and its burgeoning ground invasion have forced dozens of Lebanese Christians to take shelter in a monastery close to the border with Israel. Milad Louis, head of the municipality of Ain Ebel, a largely Christian town, said Israeli airstrikes forced the community to evacuate in just 45 minutes. Lebanese military personnel direct civilians Tuesday in the town of Rmeish along the border with Israel. Some 70 villagers were given shelter in the nearby monastery and school, with residents also opening up their homes to 30 fleeing the violence nearby, according to monastery officials. Read previewI've been going to Las Vegas regularly since the early 2000s and have adopted a firm policy to never stay more than two nights. A well-planned weekend trip also makes it possible for travelers to use fewer PTO days — although almost half of US workers don't take all of their paid time off each year anyway. Here's how my cousin and I spent a weekend in Vegas on my most recent trip. Next, we headed to one of the highlights of any trip to Vegas: high tea at the Tea Lounge at the Waldorf. The Tea Lounge at the Waldorf Jill SchildhouseFor dinner, we headed to KYU at Fontainebleau Las Vegas for incredibly flavorful Asian-inspired and wood-fired dishes.

British biodiversity startup Dendra Systems announced Wednesday it has raised a $15.76 million Series B, as investors continue to pour capital into climate tech. The $15.76 million Series B round was led by Zouk Capital, a London-based private equity firm that has previously backed climate-tech companies such as Green Hedge and Orb Energy. Dendra Systems previously raised $10 million Series A in 2020 from At One Ventures, Airbus Ventures, Future Positive Capital, Chris Sacca's Lowercarbon Capital, and others. Climate tech proved to be more resilient than other sectors in a cool market in 2023, with European climate tech startups bucking the trend in declining investment and raising a collective $20 billion. Dendra Systems is among the first batch of European climate startups to get VC backing.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — At the inaugural Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix, music and entertainment have taken a dominant role. (The luxury club and casino is a founding partner in the Las Vegas Grand Prix.) Travis Scott performed at Zouk Nightclub located in Resorts World Las Vegas, another partner of this particular race. For the inaugural Vegas race weekend, the Grand Prix hosted an Opening Ceremony — not too dissimilar from the star-studded event that launch the Miami race in 2022. Just like music.”For the EDM DJ and Las Vegas resident Steve Aoki, the F1 Opening Ceremony is indicative of Vegas' growing appeal.
