Business Insider secured access to an internal Tesla pay database, covering nearly 100,000 employees as of December 2021. Tesla offers lower base salaries than its tech and automotive peers but offers substantial stock grants. Nine current and former people in engineering and sales said that Tesla's stock grants make it easier to accept lower base salaries. CFO turnover hit 8.9% globally during the period, surpassing levels in 2022 and 2023. A global pandemic, increased geopolitical tensions overseas, supply chain disruptions and recession concerns have made the CFO role even harder. Moving forward, it's unclear whether CFO turnover will continue to pickup. "If a CFO immediately resigns intra quarter, what companies will do sometimes is reaffirm their guidance to ease investor concerns.

Tesla earns regulatory credits by making and selling electric vehicles. Bloomberg, which initially reported on the filing , calculated that the company had pulled in almost $9 billion from selling regulatory credits since 2009. The company has expected revenue from regulatory credits to dry up as other automakers ramp up EV production. "It will continue for some period of time, but eventually this stream of regulatory credits will reduce," he added. However, that scenario has largely failed to materialize, with Tesla’s earnings from selling regulatory credits slightly increasing from last year, when it earned $1.776 billion.

At $517 billion, Tesla's market capitalization ended Thursday below Meta Platforms' (META.O) for the first time since 2021. Tesla's automotive gross margin, excluding regulatory credits and leasing, stood at 18.3%, missing an 'above 20%' target provided in January by Tesla CFO Zachary Kirkhorn. At least 15 analysts cut their Tesla price targets following Tesla's report, pulling the median target of 42 analysts from $210 down to $200, or about 23% above the stock's current level, according to Refinitiv data. New York CNN —Banks have pledged to go green, but last year they poured billions of dollars into expanding the capacity of fossil fuel production despite the accelerating climate crisis. While Canadian banks are providing a rising share of the money, US lenders still dominate the market and accounted for 28% of all fossil fuel financing in 2022, said the report. High prices have swelled profits for energy companies, leaving them flush with cash. The record profits come after the world’s 60 largest private banks provided $5.5 trillion in finance for fossil fuels over the past seven years, according to the report. The Banking on Climate Chaos report, which has been published for 14 years, examines the fossil fuel funding of the 60 largest banks in the world.
[1/2] Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his security detail depart the company’s local office in Washington, U.S. January 27, 2023. REUTERS/Jonathan ErnstSAN FRANCISCO, April 19 (Reuters) - Elon Musk said on Wednesday that electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla (TSLA.O) likely will launch full self-drive technology this year and generate significant profits that offset some of the margin pressure it's facing due to aggressive price cuts. "I hesitate to say this but I think we'll do it this year," said Tesla CEO Musk, speaking on a conference call. Tesla sells FSD software as an option for as much as $15,000. Tesla reported a lower-than-expected quarterly margin on Wednesday but Musk said he would prioritize sales growth over profits in a weak economy.
Elon Musk-led Tesla reported total gross margin of 19.3%, compared with expectations of 22.4%, according to 14 analysts polled by Refinitiv. For the first quarter, Tesla's automotive gross margins, a closely watched figure by analysts and investors, dropped. Finance chief Zachary Kirkhorn promised in January that Tesla would not go below automotive gross margins of 20% and an average selling price of $47,000 across models. Excluding items, Tesla reported a profit of 85 cents, in line with estimates. Deliveries of higher-priced Model S and Model X vehicles slumped from the previous quarter, it said.
Tesla is a victim of a price war it started

New York CNN —Tesla helped kick off an EV price war. The lower prices caused revenue to fall $1.3 billion compared to the fourth quarter despite record deliveries, leading to tighter profit margins. Tesla reported a gross profit margin of 19.3%. Both profit margins disappointed Wall Street analysts who were looking for margins to stay comfortably above 20%. Asked about the future direction of its profit margins, Tesla executives declined to give any guidance.
Reuters GraphicsTesla finance chief Zachary Kirkhorn promised in January that margins would not fall below 20% and an average selling price of $47,000 across models. Even as consumers have dialed down non-essential spending over fears of a possible recession, pressuring the EV market, Tesla's rivals such as Ford Motor Co (F.N) have stepped up competition at home. Meanwhile in China, Tesla's second-largest market, the company is playing catch up with BYD Co (002594.SZ). "It's probable that Tesla's margins will be preserved based on the reduction in commodity costs," said George Gianarikas, analyst at Canaccord Genuity. Tesla is targeting deliveries of 1.8 million vehicles this year, though Musk said in January the automaker could hand out 2 million vehicles if circumstances are favorable.
