Gen X and younger voters shifted right in recent polls, favoring Trump more than they did in 2020. Democrats lost a lot of ground with Gen Z, while Republicans won Gen X by a much wider margin than in 2020. Gen Z favored Vice President Kamala Harris by 11 points, compared to 24 points for President Joe Biden. Novartis shares jumped on Tuesday after the Swiss drugmaker raised its full-year guidance on strong drug sales and announced a $15 billion share buyback. Novartis expects sales to rise by a high-single-digit percentage in 2023, an increase from a previous expectation of mid-single-digit growth. Novartis reported total revenue of $13.62 billion for the quarter, up around 7% from $12.78 billion the same period a year ago. The company's innovative medicines business, which develops patented medicines, raked in sales of $11.24 billion for the quarter. The company's generic medicines division, Sandoz, posted sales of $2.38 billion, up 5% from a year ago.

Still, many Germans feel Scholz is not doing a very good job of explaining his thinking. Scholz has so far neither said he would give the green light nor if he would send tanks from Germany. A main reason given is that Russia could see the deliveries of tanks as tantamount to Germany becoming a party to conflict. The Kremlin would be less inclined to retaliate if another nuclear power such as the United States also sent tanks. Already, Russia's invasion of Ukraine has forced Germany to overcome taboos such as exporting arms to war zones.
