Authorities on Tuesday announced they are investigating the death of a 1-month-old baby boy who was brought to a New York hospital over the summer for malnutrition as a homicide. New York officials released Monday forensic sketches and informational flyers about a possible new victim in the Gilgo Beach serial killings case, in an effort to identify them and get new leads in the roughly 20-year-old homicide. The remains of the victim, referred to as “Asian Doe,” were found in 2011 near the bodies of at least 10 others near Long Island, New York’s Gilgo Beach. Long Island architect Rex Heuermann, 61, was arrested last year in connection with the Gilgo Beach serial killings. Heuermann was initially charged with killing three women — Megan Waterman, Amber Costello and Melissa Barthelemy — and dumping their bodies near Gilgo Beach. Authorities previously disclosed that “Asian Doe” was wearing women’s clothing, but did not provide further details.

A woman has been arrested and charged with a hate crime in connection with splattering red paint on the home of the Jewish director of the Brooklyn Museum earlier this summer. Taylor Pelton, 28, was charged Wednesday with criminal mischief as a hate crime in connection with the June attack, the New York City Police Department said. In the attack, red paint was splattered on the front facade and door of Brooklyn Museum director Anne Pasternak’s Brooklyn home. The Brooklyn Museum told NBC News Friday: "We are aware the District Attorney has filed criminal charges against an individual accused of participating in the June 12 vandalism at the homes of several Brooklyn Museum leaders. Two teenagers drowned while swimming off Coney Island in Brooklyn as a thunderstorm rolled into the area Friday evening, the second such fatal episode at a New York City beach in less than a month. Two girls, ages 17 and 18, were reported missing after going into the water near Stillwell Avenue shortly after 8 p.m., according to the New York City Police Department. Both were later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police. The deaths, two weeks after two teenagers died swimming off the Rockaways in Queens, mark a particularly deadly start to the summer season at New York City beaches, where drownings have been a perennial problem. With more than two months remaining, the city matched last year’s total of four lives lost.

The exhibition commemorates those killed at the Nova Music Festival in Israel during the October 7 attacks by Hamas. The protest was part of a “Citywide Day of Rage for Gaza,” in which pro-Palestinian protesters demonstrated outside museums across New York City on Monday. CNN —Hollywood actor Steve Buscemi has been treated for injuries after being punched in the face while walking in New York City. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) told CNN it is investigating the assault, which took place on Wednesday and is the latest in a string of random attacks in the city. Last month, CNN spoke to half a dozen women who said they were hit in the face out of nowhere while on the streets of New York City. “He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of NY,” the statement said. “Upon arrival, officers were informed a 66-year-old male was punched in the face by an unidentified individual,” the police statement said.
