Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul whose alleged sexual misconduct fueled the #MeToo movement, has been indicted on new charges by a New York City grand jury, Manhattan prosecutors announced during a court hearing Thursday. The new indictment is under seal, prosecutor Nicole Blumberg told Judge Curtis Farber, who has set a trial date for Nov. 12. NBC News was the first to report this month that a grand jury had been convened to hear from women who had come forward with new accusations against Weinstein, 72. Weinstein was convicted in 2020 of third-degree rape of one woman and first-degree criminal sex act against another woman after a trial in New York, where he was sentenced to 23 years in prison. New York prosecutors announced months later that they intended to recharge Weinstein for the same crimes and possibly bring forward new charges.

The NYPD says a large quantity of fentanyl and other narcotics were discovered in a trap floor in the play area of the day care center. One-year-old Nicholas Dominici died after a suspected exposure to fentanyl last week at Divino Niño day care center. “More evidence has been recovered that leads to the conclusion that this was more than just a day care center,” Clark said Thursday. Trump's former lawyer Michael Cohen has said he made the payment to silence Daniels about an affair she says she had with Trump in 2006. Bragg's charges come at a critical time, as Trump is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. A prosecutor leading that probe, Mark Pomerantz, resigned in February 2022 after Bragg declined to charge Trump himself with financial crimes. Pomerantz has publicly criticized Bragg's decision not to bring charges and published a book about the investigation. In the biggest trial victory so far in his tenure, his office last December won the conviction of the Trump Organization on tax fraud charges.
Former US President Donald Trump speaks at a campaign event in Waco, Texas, US, on Saturday, March 25, 2023. The New York City grand jury that for nearly two months has been hearing testimony and reviewing evidence related to a hush money payment benefiting former President Donald Trump is set to resume work Monday. The grand jury, which could be asked to issue an indictment of Trump today, returns two days after he spoke to supporters at his 2024 presidential campaign's first rally in Waco, Texas. Trump, who denies having sex with Daniels, later reimbursed Cohen for the payment, which the Trump Organization claimed was for legal expenses. In addition to the Manhattan probe, Trump is under criminal investigation by a Georgia prosecutor for potentially illegal efforts to overturn his loss in that state's 2020 presidential election.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to reporters before his speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on March 4, 2023 in National Harbor, Maryland. The Manhattan panel is probing a $130,000 payment Trump's then-personal lawyer Michael Cohen gave porn star Stormy Daniels shortly before Election Day 2016. That grand jury could resume work on Monday. Trump's legal team earlier this week lost a last-ditch effort at the federal appeals court for the District of Columbia to block a Corcoran's ordered appearance. Those investigations are taking place even as Trump is seeking the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
The New York City grand jury that is weighing whether to criminally charge former President Donald Trump is set to resume work Thursday after an unexpected day off. Cohen and Daniels both have said that the $130,000 he gave her was to keep her from talking to journalists about her claim of having sex with Trump once in 2016. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office is known to be considering whether to ask the grand jury to indict Trump for violating New York state law by allegedly misclassifying the reimbursement to Cohen as a legal expense. But it can be elevated to a felony if a business record is falsified to cover up another crime. Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to federal crimes that included breaking campaign finance law by facilitating the Daniels payment to keep her from harming Trump's chances of winning the 2016 election.
