About two-thirds of respondents said they felt that the rhetoric used by U.S. media when reporting on the issue negatively affects how strangers treat them. Land restrictions, like in Florida, that limit Chinese citizens from buying property, could be affecting the Chinese community as well. “Regardless of the intention of these tough-on-China policies, there are unintended consequences on the treatment of Chinese Americans.”

And this loosely hinged version of Trump scares me much, much more than the utterly unhinged one. He smells victory in November in a way he’s never really smelled it before, and his nose isn’t off. CNN —If you decompress by playing with dogs or checking their adorable videos on social media, you might be onto something. Playing with your dog may not just be good for your pet — it could also benefit your emotional health, according to a new study. The authors measured participants’ brain waves, using electroencephalogram tests, or EEGs, for three minutes during each activity. Different activities had varying effects on participants’ brain waves. Grooming, playing and gently massaging the dog was linked with strengthened beta-band oscillation, which is associated with heightened attention and concentration.

The Christopher Nolan-directed award season favorite led the nominees with 13 nods this year and won seven awards, including director, lead actor and the coveted best film award. “Poor Things” was the other stand-out winner of the ceremony with five wins, including Emma Stone’s award for lead actress. “The Holdovers” star Da’Vine Joy Randolph continues to dominate the supporting actress category through this award season cycle. CNN —Amazon Prime’s new drama series “Expats,” starring Nicole Kidman, is currently unavailable to watch in Hong Kong despite being set and partly filmed in the city. That year, Hong Kong also granted Oscar-winner Kidman an exemption from its tough Covid-19 quarantine rules to film in the city. Four members of her crew were also granted relief from the restrictions, Hong Kong officials said at the time. CNN has also reached out to the Hong Kong Commerce and Economic Development Bureau for comment. “It was very important to me to be able to show this particular moment in this year in Hong Kong very accurately,” she said.

CNN —As Donald Trump wages a Supreme Court battle to stay on state presidential ballots, a potent contingent of the conservative legal world has united behind him. The new filings in the case of Trump v. Anderson also reinforce the tight world of Supreme Court lawyering. In “Expats,” the actress Ji-young Yoo, a relative newcomer to Hollywood, shares the screen with Nicole Kidman, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress and producer. Yoo plays Mercy, a Columbia grad and would-be babysitter for the young son of Kidman’s Margaret, a former landscape architect and a mother of three living, none too happily, in Hong Kong. When Mercy loses her charge in a moment of distraction (yes, she was texting), it sends Margaret into — well, just imagine how Nicole Kidman might react if, say, you were texting and you lost her child. “When I watch the scenes with me and Nicole, it still feels like I was Photoshopped in,” she said in an interview last month.
