Vice President Kamala Harris will make an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, according to three people familiar with the planning. Harris’ cameo on the long-running variety series, where she’s been portrayed by actor Maya Rudolph, brings her to New York, away from the battleground states she’s been visiting in the final stretch of the campaign. "Maya Rudolph — I mean, she’s so good,” Harris said of her impression on “The View” last month, praising her “mannerisms” as well. A month earlier, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a cameo on the show and did an impersonation of Trump. Sarah Palin went on the show just weeks before the election as the Republican vice presidential nominee.

PHOENIX — Vice President Kamala Harris said Thursday that former President Donald Trump's remarks this week about protecting women whether they "like it or not" is another sign of how he "devalues" women. The Trump campaign did not immediately provide a comment on Harris' remarks. Trump on Wednesday said that his "people" had instructed him not to say that he wanted to "protect the women." In addressing Biden's comments, Harris pointed to Trump's rhetoric about "the enemy from within" and comparing the U.S. to a "garbage can." When asked by NBC News what Harris thinks her late mother would say to her in the final days before the election, Harris smiled.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, plans to spend election night at her alma mater, Howard University in Washington, D.C., according to three people familiar with the planning. One source said the campaign is likely to hold its election night event in the Quad, though the exact location on campus could change. NBC News previously reported that Harris’ campaign was eyeing the university, where Harris obtained her bachelor’s degree, as a potential venue for the vice president's election night headquarters. "I recognize my time at Howard shaped me into the person I am today. She also pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first historically Black sorority, at Howard in 1986.

And on Thursday, Harris delivered an unscheduled speech focused on former Trump chief of staff John Kelly confirming Trump praised Adolf Hitler’s generals. The Harris campaign argues that the plan will tip some final undecided voters — a chunk of which are disaffected Republicans or independents. The Harris campaign says it is also focused on understanding what messaging could impact the small number of undecided voters that remain in key battleground states. “The two most motivating messages for Democratic turnout are those around abortion and democracy.”Some Harris campaign officials echoed that argument. Still, some Democrats who have worked with Harris worry there is too much focus on Trump and not on Harris’ unique skills and vision.

Garland — who oversaw the Justice Department in the wake of its biggest crisis since Watergate, when Trump tried to enlist Justice Department appointees to overturn his election loss — is likely to stay on at least long enough to ensure a smooth transition. Still, a few names have surfaced for the position of 87th attorney general of the United States. Roy Cooper, who was on Harris' vice presidential short list; former Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta, who served as the No. 3 official at the Justice Department until earlier this year; and U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams. 3 position at the Justice Department.

Pop superstar Beyoncé will appear with Vice President Kamala Harris at her event in Houston, Texas on Friday evening, according to three sources familiar with the plans. Beyonce is also expected to perform, according to one of the sources, who has direct knowledge of the preparations. The pop star is from Houston and her appearance comes as the Harris campaign has welcomed other musicians, like Bruce Springsteen and Eminem, to the campaign trail. The vice president's other prominent celebrity endorsements include Taylor Swift, Charli XCX and Billie Eilish. In the final days of the race, Harris is expected to stress that she still believes she and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are the “underdogs” in the race and that “nothing can be left on the field,” a Harris aide said. Harris has also started to use video clips of Trump’s comments at her rallies, a pattern that is expected to continue. A Harris campaign aide said the strategy is viewed as a “smart way to force a conversation about him.”“A huge part of our thinking is that we need to show his lack of fitness,” the person said. “Donald Trump’s comments continue to become more bizarre and more strange, and that’s something that should concern the American people and, in these closing days,” Garcia told NBC News on Wednesday, “Kamala Harris will make that argument.”

A person close to the campaign said that at this moment, having Clinton on the campaign trail might not be the most helpful move, since it needed to focus on its core messages. Clinton is expected to do at least one event for the Harris campaign in the final week of the election, according to two people familiar with the planning, though an event has not been announced. It is unclear if Clinton will appear alongside the vice president on the campaign trail. A Harris campaign official said Clinton will campaign for the vice president in the final stretch of the race. “Hillary Clinton said, ‘I’m With Her,’ and they were not,” the Harris aide said of voters.

Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver a “closing argument” speech in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday at the site where former President Donald Trump spoke shortly before the Jan. 6 riot, according to a senior campaign official. Harris will argue it's time to turn the page on Trump and choose a new way forward, the official said. Sources had told NBC News earlier in the day that Harris' campaign had been planning an address on the National Mall and had sought a permit for the site. “We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated,” Trump told the crowd, urging it repeatedly to "fight." The Harris campaign official said the campaign plans to contrast Trump's worst moment in office with what the official called Harris' optimistic vision for the future.

Between the time it takes to process mail ballots and deal with provisional ballots in some battleground states, votes will not be fully tabulated on election night. Projections of who won a close presidential race might not come for days, similar to the 2020 election. The sources all noted they did not have direct knowledge that this was a formal Trump campaign plan. The Trump campaign did not respond to a request seeking comment. In 2020, Trump quickly proclaimed victory on election night, even though he ultimately ended up losing to Joe Biden.

Black men have historically voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates, with turnout typically lagging that of Black women but consistent nonetheless. Even a relatively small drop in support from Black men for Harris could be significant given the razor-thin margins in battleground states. “Black men prioritize being the primary breadwinners of the household and care about real wages and permanent jobs. The Harris campaign also plans to ramp up its programming specifically designed to engage Black men. This week, it is set to partner with Black male celebrities, influencers and activists to hold “Black Men Huddle Up” events in battleground states, NFL and NCAA watch parties that will double as an avenue for Black men to discuss the stakes of the election.

The change is driven, in part, by internal campaign data showing that sharper messaging against Trump could persuade some still-unsure Americans to support Harris, according to three of the campaign officials. Follow live politics coverage here“We are going to draw more contrasts everywhere we can,” Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said in an interview. Harris campaign officials said they intend to continue laying out her policy positions, background and plans if she were to win the presidency — and increasing negative messaging is oftentimes a natural evolution in a presidential campaign as the candidates make their closing arguments. “The numbers aren’t moving,” a Harris campaign official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal strategy. The videos are part of a seven-figure paid media strategy aimed at critical swing voters and a larger effort by the Harris campaign to court Republicans and former Trump supporters. The campaign has also hired strategists to focus specifically on conservative voters, held events to engage Republican voters in battleground states, launched Republicans for Harris to help organize grassroots programs, and rolled out endorsements from prominent Republicans. McCaffery, who lives in Pennsylvania, embodies the type of voter the Harris campaign hopes will back her as polls show the race remains close. This week, the Harris campaign will also be holding Republican voter outreach events in the battleground states across the country. That comes after the campaign launched Republicans for Harris in August and after dozens of notable Republicans, including Cheney and her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, endorsed Harris.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign is hiring Nasrina Bargzie to lead outreach to Muslim and Arab voters, according to a campaign official who first shared details of the plan with NBC News — a move focused on a key constituency that soured on President Joe Biden over his support of Israel. Bargzie worked in Harris’ White House office until July as a policy adviser on Muslim, Arab and Gaza-related issues, as well as reproductive rights, voting and democracy, the campaign official said. Bargzie will focus on talking to Muslim and Arab communities as voters wait to see whether Harris will lay out a different approach to the Middle East and Israel from Biden’s. The Black Muslim Leadership Council Fund, a national Muslim organization that had declared itself “uncommitted” on Biden’s re-election bid, announced this month it was endorsing Harris.
