Although Trump claims that his plan to raise tariffs will replace the revenue lost to these tax breaks, experts say that’s not possible. President-elect Donald Trump's tax proposals could cost trillions of dollars. In addition to eliminating taxes on certain income, Trump also floated making interest paid on car loans fully tax deductible; getting rid of the controversial cap on state and local tax deductions; ending the double taxation on Americans who live abroad; exempting police officers, firefighters, veterans and active-duty military from federal income tax; and even exploring jettisoning the federal income tax itself. Though his campaign didn’t release details on the proposal, Trump indicated that he would eliminate both federal income taxes and payroll taxes, which fund Social Security and Medicare. Virtually all tipped workers would get some tax relief if Trump also gets rid of payroll taxes on tips, the Tax Policy Center found.

Yale University is getting in formation with a new course dedicated to studying Beyoncé. Following Beyoncé’s innovations and influence from her self-titled 2013 album to her latest, “Cowboy Carter,” students will analyze her albums, performance politics and concert films. Courses on the star’s political and cultural influence have popped up since the early 2010s, with Rutgers University’s “Politicizing Beyoncé” class and a “Beyonce: Critical Feminist Perspectives and U.S. Black Womanhood” course at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Cornell University has also offered versions of its “Beyoncé Nation” course, which studies her career trajectory as well as her impact on political activism and feminism. Over 200,000 people looked up the “4B movement” on Google on Wednesday, making it one of the top trending topics on the online search engine. Of the female voters, 91% of Black women voted for Harris vs. 7% who voted for Trump, and 57% of college-educated white women voted for Harris vs. 41% who voted for Trump. CNN —Researchers have uncovered links between the precursor to the world’s oldest writing system and the mysterious, intricate designs left behind by engraved cylindrical seals that were rolled across clay tablets about 6,000 years ago. Scholars consider cuneiform the first writing system, and humans used its wedge-shaped characters to inscribe ancient languages such as Sumerian on clay tablets beginning around 3400 BC. The writing system is thought to have originated from Mesopotamia, the region where the world’s earliest known civilization developed that’s now modern-day Iraq. “This gap in the origin story — where do the nonnumerical proto-cuneiform signs come from — was left unresolved,” Johnson said. Correlating seal motifs (left) with proto-cuneiform pictographs could help researchers decipher hundreds of the symbols whose meaning is still unknown.

Jeff Landry confirmed his support on Tuesday of restarting the tradition of bringing Louisiana State University’s live tiger mascot onto the football field ahead of home games. For years, the school’s live mascot would ride through the stadium in a travel trailer “topped by the LSU cheerleaders” before home games, based on information about the mascot on the LSU Athletics’ webpage. Following the death of the school’s tiger, Mike VI, in 2016, LSU announced that future Mike the Tigers would no longer be brought onto the field. In the past, animal rights groups have called on LSU to stop keeping live tiger mascots. Louisiana is not the only school that is home to a live mascot.

Studying brain health among diverse populationsTo tackle the gap in knowledge, the authors studied participants enrolled in the United States-based All of Us Research Program between May 2017 and June 2022. The authors included only dementia, stroke and late-life depression in their list of brain health outcomes since those are some of the most prominent diseases that affect neurological, psychiatric and cognitive aspects of the brain. Of the 393,041 adults age 51 on average, about 10% belonged to sexual or gender minority groups. Of that subset, 97% identified as a sexual minority and 11% as a gender minority, but these two groups weren’t mutually exclusive. However, the reasons behind this effect remain elusive.”There is no evidence that being a sexual or gender minority alone causes worse brain health, experts said.

CNN's Alisyn Camerota announced that her husband, Tim Lewis, died in July, two years after he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Camerota, former co-anchor of CNN's "New Day," "CNN Newsroom," and current political commentator, posted an Instagram post on Friday sharing the news. "I cannot imagine any human being soldiering through a devastating diagnosis with more humor, humility and bravery than Tim," Camerota wrote. Camerota and Lewis share three children together, twin daughters Ale and Cessa, and son Nate, according to his obituary. "I plan to write more in the coming days and to be back at work in the next few weeks," Camerota wrote.
